Marlene focused all her attention on Basen as he began to tell his story. Her heart ached after learning of the great suffering Basen had endured alone.
She never thought that a demon beast as powerful as Basen was also not spared from human atrocities. Although he was able to recover physically from human attacks in a short time, the wound in his heart never healed.
The wound still hurt, and Basen even still remembered Viviana as clear as a day.
"I'm sorry," Marlene whispered after Basen stopped talking.
Basen laughed hoarsely. "Why?"
"I've made you remember something bad." Marlene hugged her legs and tried to hide her face from Basen. "I even thought it was impossible for you to bear such deep wounds from being attacked by humans."
"Even though I look like this, I'm actually quite emotional." Basen covered half his face with his hands, then pretended to cry. "My heart is very sensitive."
