Ruby completely rounded her eyes. She tried to repeat Oscar's words in her head to make sure she didn't hear the wrong words. However, the words remained the same, no matter how much she tried to repeat them.
Oscar ordered Lucas not to save her.
Ruby was about to open her mouth but could not say anything. She should have felt angry and upset, but Oscar's explanation earlier made her realize he was right.
"I understand." Ruby was trying her best to smile. "If Lucas takes me away by force, then there is a possibility that your hiding place will be discovered, and you could be in danger."
Oscar had long been declared dead, so he would not think twice about killing him if Marquess Barnette found him alive.
Oscar lowered his head, and his hands on Ruby's shoulders trembled. He knew Ruby's words were not wrong, but when he heard those words directly, he felt that he had deliberately abandoned his sister in order to save his own life.
