The demon fox grimaced. She looked at Basen with a disgusted gaze as if the snake before her was dirty trash. "I didn't know that you could also give birth to snakes. Does the demon snake not need a female—"
Basen shouted, "I didn't mean it like that!"
Basen had always spent his life with those venomous snakes, so he often referred to them as his children. However, that was just a metaphor, not the truth.
"The point is I don't—cough ... cough."
The demon fox stopped talking when she started coughing. She tried to cover her mouth, but the coughing didn't stop until her body was shaking.
Ruby brought her face closer to the bars, intending to get a closer look at the demon fox. "Are you alright?"
The demon fox did not answer Ruby's question because her coughing was getting worse. Her condition made Ruby feel worried, but the people around her just thought the fox was over-dramatizing the situation.
