Because a nonchalant person in the face of an enemy only meant two things: either the Chancellor of the Obelisk Academy, Alexander Akalchelt, was just an arrogant man or an arrogantly powerful man.
In other words, the fact that the current location, where the Project Black Veil was being commenced, was found by whatever means already meant something about Alexander himself.
