Chapter 50 - Melchoir's Relative (4)

"It seems it is true that His Grace's relationship with the demon controller is not good."

"What makes you sure?"

"Just now, I saw His Grace coming out of his room in a hurry and a tense face."

"You mean they fought?"

Tavish flicked his cigarette over the ashtray and said, "How tense was His Grace's expression just now?"

"I can't see it clearly," Blake said. "The light is too dark. Moreover, His Grace is walking very quickly."

"Let's assume His Grace is angry," said Tavish. "But we'll see until tomorrow. It could be that his anger is just ordinary anger in the household."

"I don't think His Grace will have time to play around like that."

"Who knows, right?" Tavish took a drag on his cigarette and exhaled slowly. "It could have been a small fight that had a big impact."

"Should we report it to His Majesty the King?"

"No need. We'll wait a few more days."

"What about Lord Chas? I didn't expect him to come here."

"I honestly feel that Lord Chas already knows something…"

The crowd fell silent in the dim light of the drawing room of the Melchoir estate. Their minds wandered to the incident a few months ago.

Tavish, the old man who could be said to be the group's leader, even fell silent. He thought of the many possibilities that could have happened.

"His Majesty the King still doesn't know about our secret, does he?" Tavish asked slowly.

"Not to my knowledge," Blake replied.

"According to Alpha, His Majesty the King is currently in a waiting position. It is just…"

"It is just?"

"High Priest Meical likely knows. He was at His Grace's wedding that time, right?"

That's dangerous, Tavish thought.

"We'd better focus on Lord Chas and on the party this time." Tavish took another long puff on his cigarette. "Shouldn't we be enjoying this party?"

"Marquess Hadrian, I actually didn't want to ask this. But… you had a fight with your wife, didn't you?"

Hadrian glanced at Ichabod briefly. From the corner of his eye, he could feel that Calore was also curious about the answer.

In fact, even without being asked, the answer is clear. Ever since the talk at the small banquet, they had somehow gotten into a fight. Not intense fights that involved shouting or hitting, just fights that made the blood boil, but they could still endure it in their hearts. Hadrian decided to stay away from Rheannon for a while to relieve his boiling blood.

Last night Hadrian didn't sleep in his room with Rheannon. Rheannon's and Hadrian's maids knew about it.

Well, luckily it looks like Desmond doesn't know. But the cold breakfast just now seemed to have signaled to the boy that they were having a fight.

"Not that I want to interfere. I'm just at a loss as to what to say to Young Master Desmond," Ichabod added carefully.

"Desmond asked you?"

"Errr–yes. Young Master Desmond asked if something happened to you and Her Ladyship."

Hadrian already guessed…

"You don't have to answer that. Just find a reason," said Hadrian.

"Errr–alright."

After Ichabod left, and Calore who drew closer to Hadrian.

"Today a doctor's visit is scheduled for Her Ladyship. Is Your Grace still willing to attend the examination?" asked Calore.

"Yes," Hadrian answered curtly.

"Okay. The doctor will be scheduled to come after lunch. I'll call when the doctor arrives."

Maybe because he sensed Hadrian was in a bad mood, Calore immediately left the room.

All that morning, Hadrian had difficulty focusing his mind on work. The letters on the report he got were hard to understand. His mind kept turning to Rheannon's words last night.

If that woman would kill his family if she had the chance.

Of course, Hadrian felt offended by that remark. That is, no matter how jerk his relatives are, they are still his family. And as the head of the family, it was Hadrian's responsibility to protect them.

"Do I have to protect the people who try to bring me down?" muttered Hadrian annoyed to himself.

After all, it wasn't like Hadrian didn't understand how Rheannon felt. His wife had the right to have a grudge against him. Hadrian had burned his entire homeland and family. It wouldn't be strange if one day Rheannon would repay him with the same thing.

But isn't that precisely the purpose of this marriage?

"Marquess Hadrian?"

"What brings you here so early, Rheannon?"

"For what else? Desmond has smelled our fight. I'm here to mend our relationship a little."

Hadrian married Rheannon to prevent her from seeking revenge on this kingdom.

"Sit there first," Hadrian said at last.

Rheannon, without Hadrian expecting it, complied.

Above all, though his relatives were family, Rheannon was his wife. If something happened to Rheannon due to the actions of Melchoir's relatives, it was also Hadrian who would eventually pass judgment on them.

Hadrian didn't want bloodshed or to leave a dark history for Desmond in the future. Really.

"You seem to realize that I… am your wife," Rheannon said seductively.

"Unfortunately, yes," Hadrian replied. He took off his glasses and sat down by Rheannon. "More than that, you are Desmond's mother."

Rheannon was silent for a moment. "It's also strange that I have a child… who is only 10 years older than me."

"Don't say that in front of Desmond. He really already thinks of you as his mother," Hadrian emphasized. "That Desmond… somehow feels very comfortable with you. You didn't do anything with him, did you?"

"Hmmm, how, huh?" muttered Rheannon slowly.

What kind of answer is that? Hadrian thought suspiciously.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to do something that would…. hurt Desmond. That kid, even if I have to kill him, I will find a way not to kill him."

"You treat Desmond very differently."

"Of course. Desmond is special. Doesn't Your Grace think like that?"

"He is my child, your child, our family," Hadrian absent one by one. "I will do anything to ease his way in the future. So, if possible, I will start solving existing problems and not exacerbate relations with relatives, Rheannon. If I die, they're the only ones Desmond can rely on. So please don't get into trouble with the relatives–tell that to Lord Chas as well."

"Fine. I see." Rheannon smiled. "So now we're cool?"

"Yes. Later when I have time, I will have lunch with you."

"You're so kind."

"Not really." Hadrian looked at Rheannon earnestly. "Thank you for being concerned with my opinion… also for Desmond's feelings."

"Oh my, Your Grace. I did it because it was only Desmond who kept me from destroying this area."

"That's not funny at all."

But Rheannon just laughed at that.
