Chereads / Renegade Jenny (Pokemon Fanfic) / Chapter 29 - Enter Pewder City

Chapter 29 - Enter Pewder City

Among those gains from the Viridian Forest were a couple of additional captures in the form of some Pidgeys so that their numbers could be controlled.

Upon leaving the Viridian Forest, Kimi continued to walk with her father who had captured a couple of Pokémon to aid him during the journey on foot.

In order to give the other water Pokémon a suitable place to train with each other and be around water, Kimi and her father put some funds towards them staying with a certified carer who had a pond.

If they were stuck within their Pokéballs for too long and had not been given enough freedom, food or water as they needed then their health would only deteriorate.

Staying a week within Viridian Forest was already long enough for them all to stay within the forest full of trees with less water around them.

The journey would be continued and would take some time on foot so there would always be some that could not always be carried along with them.

The amount of legal or illegal Pokéballs along with Kimi and her father's essentials were already enough for them to carry around with them.

Through a weeks worth of searching Kimi had been unable to locate a single Bulbasaur which made her disappointed since they could be sold for a high price but she was well aware of how much she would make with what she gained so she could not be too greedy.

As they had entered Pewder City, Kimi turned to her father and passed over a couple of things to him. "Try to find some place for us to stay temporarily. An inn would be preferable, with our gains we should be able to afford a little more luxury."

Max took them from her and put his hand on her head. "You have grown up so quickly that I can hardly recognise you my daughter. You have made me proud."

His time spent in the forest would remain a treasured memory because he got to witness his daughters growth and talents for himself.

He couldn't help but feel pride that his daughter was so talented.

Although he felt that it was a shame that she did not wish to serve as an officer like himself and his wife, he understood that such a life was full of limitations and would only restrain his daughter.

If someone had justice in their hearts and were determined to help others at the cost of themselves then working as an officer was the right path for them, joining the leagues army or becoming one of their dogs was a way to get many benefits and potentially have a shot at rising up but it was full of hardships and political struggles.

Such places were full of rules and restrictions so they would only cause Kimi to become suppressed by those around her but if someone was talented enough then they could work more freely and do freelance work to support themselves.

Private detectives, bounty hunters and many other professions were still widely sought out by people who wished to become independent from such organisations while using their skills to make money.

Kimi lowered her head a little to hide her expression as she thought. 'If only you knew that your daughter really has changed then what would you think? Would you be happy with the path I have chosen to take? I doubt it..'

She felt a little complicated in her heart but she knew that if she lost her determination, she may end up going back to how she had lived her life before or choose to hand herself in because of the guilt she felt after committing some crimes.

It was not easy to step into the darkness when a person had been exposed to the light for so long and had clung to it desperately.

Many believers in karma or other similar things would cling to hope that the more good deeds they did, the better luck they would have and the better their lives would turn out.

Even if they did not expect anything in return for their good deeds, they hoped for even a little good fortune so that they themselves could experience the same kindness from others or receive some way to achieve their own happiness.

The first life Kimi followed similar ideals and helped others until her death but upon being reborn it had been like fate which had been granted to her to allow her a better life.

The path was laid out before her as she was destined to play the role as an officer once again which eventually lead to more loss and sacrifice.

Before her second death, she had been awakened and Kimi had awoken to her third life which was a repeat of how her second life began as if to see if she would still make the same choice again.

Kimi was no saint who would have no limitations in how much she could offer up to others, there was always a limit to humans and how much they could endure before they finally chose a different way.

Some chose to make tiny changes to themselves while others were more extreme because they chose a path which was the complete opposite of how they had been living before.

While Kimi had chosen a path opposite selflessness which was selfishness, there was still the same person who cared about others and the law so there would always be internal conflicts within her while walking down her current path she had chosen for herself.

Kimi entered the official Pewder City main building which contained different posters up on a board.

The clothes on Kimi were quite dirty from her journey so the person at the desk looked at her closely as she entered.

They were able to quickly determine where she had come from so they asked. "Welcome to Pewder City, are you a new visitor? What is the reason for your visit?"

Kimi began by rummaging through her bag then many Pokéballs were placed on the ground in front of her. "I have proof for the Viridian Forest quests for each area whether they be the Pidgey, Weedle, Caterpie or Bellsprout evolutionary line population quests. Since I have come with so many and completed this then I expect that you will have me wait here for now."

The person looked at the many Pokéballs on the ground and then tried to hide their surprise. "First we will register the Pokéballs and see what have been caught within then count them all. One moment."

There were small stickers stuck to the Pokéballs which helped Kimi identify each of them so sorting them out was an easy task and she had already passed the higher quality ones with higher talent or an already evolved form to her father so that she could deal with them later.

The attendant disappeared into a back room which followed with a man with a large build and hiking clothing walking out.

He had a kind smile on his face and pointed towards Kimi before running out. "You stay here for a while as instructed. I will be back as quickly as possible."

He was one of the official surveyors which had been assigned to Pewder City to collect information on the surrounding paths leading to and from Pewder City.

His job was simple, it was to visit those places and record everything he had seen which included the population of the Pokémon in each zone, their threat levels, the potential dangers around the area that needed to be fixed or closed off then other details which would be reported to the main office and the league.

Since there was a large collection of Pokéballs, he needed to go to Viridian Forest to check for himself that the tasks were completed to an acceptable level before the rewards were handed over.

Anyone could easily catch certain Pokémon in another location and try to pawn them off to other cities where there are bounties available so someone had to verify the authenticity of those who came in.

If they continued to display such behaviour then it would only be put down within the details on the bounty hunter and would be shared wt other branches or within the league so they would be unable to take certain tasks or would be turned away upon appearing to take any missions.

Kimi handed each of the Pokéballs over as the attendant registered them into the database but there was still a note by the side of the information about Kimi and the tasks she had applied for and completed.

The information had 'Task Pending due to investigation' while Kimi had 'New bounty hunter under investigation'.

For larger missions or key locations where tasks were dealt with on a greater scale, there needed to be some investigations held while smaller routes would be checked over less than the others.

Kimi just so happened to trigger one of those more urgent and bigger tasks so an investigation had begun surrounding her background, her tasks taken and so on.

He had already begun sending an email to the Viridian City branch to ask their opinions on Kimi or if they could provide any details but they forwarded him to the local police where Officer Jenny answered the call.
