Chereads / Renegade Jenny (Pokemon Fanfic) / Chapter 21 - Growlithe’s Victory

Chapter 21 - Growlithe’s Victory

What allowed such a victory for Kimi and her Growlithe was their positioning, timing and precision which they had gained through many battles together against water type Pokémon.

The way that Growlithe was able to position herself and wait until the order was given by the youth allowed her to move quickly into position to counterattack with a Bite.

The timing and precision was aided by the shared senses if Kimi who had her senses shared with Growlithe while she kept a close observation of the Wartortle and the youth.

The moment that the youth had decided to tell his Wartortle to leave its shell and attack, Kimi had already given the information over to Growlithe to prepare her for the counterattack.

The throat of the Wartortle was loosened as the victory was decided and it was very weak and struggled to climb to its feet.

By then Growlithe had already excitedly came to Kimi's side and was looking for praise. "Growlithe!"

Kimi walked over to where the Fire Stone and Pokéball were kept. 'I have humoured him enough and this has helped Growlithe to regain her confidence back. The Fire Stone is a bonus too. Unfortunately it is not the one I want..'

Her experiences in battling other trainers with her current team were low and each situation was very different to each other.

The battle against the first dark trainer was a test for her since she had to defeat him and avoid harm while capturing them alive so she could get the reward.

The second was more situational and required another approach because she was being chased by criminals who corner and kill her quietly.

The city guards or others would be alerted if a Pokémon battle took place so late into the night and so long as she did not call out her own Pokémon, her enemies would not call out theirs because they would be able to hear the sound made as they were released.

Using the environment and her smaller body to her advantage, she was able to hide until the timing was right to allow them all to be killed efficiently.

Although they did let out a little noise as they screamed in pain or tried to put up some resistance, it was not enough to draw others over within the back alleys which most tended to avoid at night.

Many things tend to happen during the night that involve the illegal market and in some locations, bodies are often found in the morning and there were never any witnesses.

Even if someone screamed within those alleys, those living nearby would keep to themselves and ignore everything in order to preserve themselves.

The third official battle was done against the youth who had specifically raised his two Pokémon into what he believed would counter Kimi who he expected to have little support and a lack of funds.

By mentioning Eevee as the prize for him winning, he removed the Pokémon that he believed would be the only other choice for a Pokémon that Kimi would use besides Growlithe.

He did not know that Growlithe had grown strong on her time spent with Kimi and that Kimi had more than two Pokémon in her possession above the levels of his own.

Kimi had only refrained from sending the others out because she wanted Growlithe to overcome her past completely so they could both move onto bigger things.

As her hand reached for the two prizes, her brow furrowed in frustration.

The youth was filled with shock and anger as he looked at the beaten Wartortle.

His eyes then turned to Kimi and Growlithe who had walked towards the side to retrieve the Pokéball and Fire Stone.

His rational side disappeared and he pointed towards Kimi and Growlithe. "Water Pulse! Do it now!"

He had lost but he still had his trump card which he did not have the ability to make use of when Wartortle was held down by Growlithe.

Torrent increases the power of water-type moves by 50% (1.5×) when the ability-bearer's HP falls below a third of its maximum.

Wartortle met the conditions for to make use of its Torrent ability as it was very low of health and it was still affected by the burns which was bringing it closer to fainting every second.

With a powered up Water Pulse fired at Kimi and Growlithe, it would make Growlithe faint and do some damage to Kimi too which would stop them from getting the Pokéball and Fire Stone.

Although it was done in his anger and in the spur of the moment, the youth figured that it was already too late to go back. 'I should grab them both and leave while they are down. If they complain later then I can use my family to suppress this and make them back down.'

If he got away with it then he would be able to avoid punishment from his family and he would have the Eevee as a trophy which he would keep and torment when Kimi and her Growlithe appeared in his mind.

It was not a healthy thought process for someone of that age and someone that was to become an officer in the future but the spoiling and protection of him from his family had made him turn out that way.

Just as he expected to see Kimi and Growlithe pushed against the wall by the Water Pulse and be knocked out or possibly injured, something flew towards Wartortle and hit it on its mouth as it broke past the forming Water Pulse sphere of water which was almost taking shape to be fired.

A metal ball rolled at the feet of the youth after Wartortle fainted then when he looked up, he saw Kimi walking towards him after packing away her things.

She casually bent over and picked up the metal ball. "You went against the rules set twice. Know when to back down and take your Pokémon to be treated or you will end up like your Pokémon. Although I would like to refrain from harming someone in a public place and angering those who are backing you, my patience is limited."

The first battle she should have won just then but if she left then Growlithe would not get to gain another chance for revenge but there was also a chance that the youth might tell others that she left with everything even though she backed out of the battle.

There was no official spectator or judge for them and those of a higher authority would be heard better than herself so she decided to beat him fair and square.

The first time the youth broke the rules was when he wished to continue after losing because he thought one battle would be enough for him to win and humiliate Kimi.

The second time was after he suffered his second defeat, he forfeited but then still chose to attack both Kimi and Growlithe once their guard was down.

Thanks to the warning of Kimi, there was no third time and Kimi went to walk around for a bit with her Growlithe before returning home.

When she got back home, she treated Growlithe to many specially made fire attribute Pokéblocks and treated her minor injuries.

Eevee came to her side for some of her own Poképuffs and then Kimi gave them both beauty treatments and some time to play.

Kimi sat in her room which had been mostly packed away as she gazed at the Fire Stone.

Her eyes lit up as she opened her laptop and put up another forum post which said. [Fire Stone medium grade for sale or for trade for the items listed…]

Many types of items which would be of use were added to the post which she wished to trade it for and there was also a purchase price.

The Fire Stone was useful to help Growlithe evolve but it was still lacking in terms of quality.

What Kimi needed was a high grade Fire Stone so that Growlithe could obtain the benefits from an evolution using better fire energy within the Fire Stone.

The current Fire Stone would only be useful to help her obtain another useful item or help towards saving for a high grade one.

Kimi continued to check the other forum posts and the messages she had then closed it down.

As she made a trip to the upper floor of the Pokémon Centre, she saw that most of her trades or sales had come through so her wealth had increased.

When she returned home, she released all of the newly obtained Pokéballs and many figures appeared in the pond out back.

Among them the many Feebas which she had obtained was an odd one out.

All of them were mostly a yellow colour but the one that was different from them was a pinkish purple.

Kimi stood in front of them all and cheered excitedly. "You can all do it! Become as beautiful as you can! I have confidence in you all!"

She took out the scale treatment solution and a cloth then started to carefully clean and shine their scales one by one.

As she got to the odd one out she whispered to it. "I believe in you the most but do not tell the others, you are the most beautiful of them all. If you can become more beautiful then I will keep you by my side forever."

In her mind, she was cheering excitedly at her recent luck. 'A shiny! I finally got a shiny! Yeeesss!'

Shiny Pokémon were quite rare and not many would be directly identified as a shiny even if they were caught or spotted because their differences with the original were not that large.

Feebas was a Pokémon which nobody seemed to place importance on and often ignored so even if it was noticed to be different from the others, the value would not shoot up that much further so Kimi was able to trade for it with what she obtained from fishing.

The fisherman which often caught Feebas and wished to get rid of them did not know the value of a Feebas or its evolution route but he also did not know enough about a shiny Pokémon because he had never encountered one.
