Chapter 3 - Hangover

ALEXANDER

"Arghh there's no way it's already 6 am," I grumbled, stretching my hand to grab my phone from my nightstand with my head still buried in my pillow. Taped and taped and I couldn't reach my phone so I had to raise my head to search for the phone with my eyes rather than with my hand, and I still did not feel my phone.

Great, I left it in one of the pockets of the jeans I wore last night. sluggishly I crawled out of bed to the jean that was on the floor on the other side of the room, then I ended the alarm which woke me up. Only to see 6 missed calls.

"Shit" I cursed.

I set an alarm for 8 am instead of 6 am and now I have just an hour to get dressed, beat the traffic and be in the office in time for the board meeting.

I'm the owner of the company but I like to show diligence towards work. Now I was running late with a throbbing headache, still hung over from the number of drinks I had last night.

Last night Xavier decided to organize a little get-together to thank the boys for being there for him at his wedding two months ago.

Unnecessary if you ask me, but it was a good opportunity to go out for drinks and get to catch up with the boys. We've been occupied these last two months, Joseph finally proposed to his now fiance, meaning there's another wedding to plan. Philip has been busy picking up more girls than business deals, and Xavier of course has been busy making babies in the name of honeymoon.

I felt less drowsy, but the headache was still there. I managed to gather the little energy I had left and found my way to the bathroom. I turned on the shower and brushed my teeth as the water took time to heat up. Then I took my bath and threw on a black suit. I picked up my clothes that were scattered on the floor even though I had a housekeeper to take care of the house. My mother raised me well, then I left my bedroom.

There was no time to have breakfast even tho the aroma from the dining room made my stomach grumble, so I just picked up my coffee mug and my office bag then went straight for the elevator

"Good morning sir" my chauffeur greeted me as soon as I stepped out of the elevator on the ground floor where all my cars were packed.

I didn't have the strength to reply so I gave him a slight nod then he went ahead to take my bag from me and open the back door of the SUV for me to get in and in no time we hit the road.

One thing I like about Paul is that he's smart, he got the clue that I was running late and didn't have the strength for chitchats. So he tried to beat the traffic while driving like he had someone's life in his hands at the moment.

We arrived at the company five minutes to nine and my assistant was already outside waiting. Pissed, but I know she wouldn't dare question me. She loved her job of course. Although I wouldn't mind being teased when I'm late, it was good to keep them that way to avoid over-familiarity.

I went straight to the elevator meant only for me and very few others. Pressed the button for the sixth floor, and in no time the elevator door spread open signifying we'd reached the sixth floor.

As usual, everyone stood up on my arrival into the conference room, and they all sat after I was seated. Then the meeting started.

I did not have the strength to talk much, so I just listened and spoke when necessary except that one of my employees, Adam, enjoyed my silence. He took his time to be the annoying asshole that he is, but just for today, I assure you. He used my silence as an opportunity to attack everyone that gave their opinions because of his disgusting pride. He's good at his work, no doubt, that's why I haven't had the opportunity to relieve him of his appointment, being the Managing Director.

He was doing the whole job to keep the company together. I can't even do half of what he does. His dedication to the company has been very good, but I think everyone here would be happier if he did not have to behave like an asshole most of the time.

Meeting ended at exactly 1 pm. Without waiting back or wasting time having chit-chats, I went straight to my office to devour the plate of lasagna I had texted Paul about thirty minutes ago to get from a restaurant not too far from the company. It was my first time trying any of their meals and it was nice, I've had better but this wasn't bad or maybe it's the hunger.

Work started piling up the moment I had my fill of the meal and by six I found myself leaving the office. I could have gone home earlier if I wished but I don't fancy procrastinating work, so I cleared up work on my desk before stepping out of the office.

I was so engrossed with my phone that I did not notice when the car stopped. The only thing that brought my eyes away from my screen was the loud music that pierced through the window glass

"I don't remember living in a club, Paul," I said, looking at him and wondering why he brought me to 'ST DREXEL' instead of my house.

"You asked me to bring you here today, whether you remind me or not sir"

"Me?" I asked totally in confusion

"Yes sir" he replied

"When was that instruction given to you?"I asked

"Last night sir, "he replied.

"You have to be specific here Paul, what time last night?" I asked again, still confused

"On our way home from here last night sir," he said

"I must have been very wasted then, take us home," I said with a sigh.

I hoped that's the only thing I said last night.

"Ok sir," he said and started the engine, but the force he applied to the breaks made me jerk forward letting go of my phone in the process

"What just h…"

"Hey watch where you're going Mr," a lady shouted from outside the car shutting me up

"I'm very sorry ma'am I didn't see you" Paul apologized while wounding down the window of the car

"It's fine, keep your eyes on the road, Whenever you're at the steering wheel, so you wouldn't go about running girls over," she said and began to walk into the club.
