Isabel felt like her whole body was heavy.Every movement was painful making her groan.A few pieces of glass had fallen on her giving her a few scratches, but overall everything was fine.
After the dizziness faded, the first thing she thought of was Gael.Isabel pushed open the door and immediately got out to see the tragic scene that had happened behind.
Gael was leaning on the steering wheel unmoving, blood covering all his face.
Isabel rushed to the window while tremblingly calling out his name.
"G-Gael?Gael!Gael!"but there was no response. Her eyes were red and the tears wouldn't stop dripping.
She got closer to try and check his pulse, but she didn't dare move him.The biggest mistake you could do right now was move a car accident victim.Isabel knew first aid so she wasn't ignorant in what to do in these moments.Checking the pulse on the neck wasn't a good idea either so the best thing she could do was call the ambulance.
Time was what mattered now and the faster the help, the more chances for him to be saved.
Isabel ran inside her car and looked for her phone.
"Where is it!Where the hell is it!"finally it was on her hand. She dialed a short number.During the beeping sound Isabels heart kept beating faster and faster. Please, pick up quick! Please, pick up!
"(This is the hospital, how may I help you?)"
"(P-p-please im-immediately-)" Isabels voice was shaking.
"(Miss, please take a deep breath, calm down and tell us.)"
"(Accident!Car Accident!E mountain!About uh-um-uh a few km from the entrance from the city!Please come fast!They,they might die!)"
"(Very well miss. Can you tell us how many people are involved and whether their consciousness?)"
"(One,a man is unconscious.)" she then got closer the the car that caused the accident to see the driver. "(The other one is also,no wait he seems to be awake.)"
"(We are sending help on the way. While you miss please describe the scene and how the accident happened if you ahppened to witness it.)"
"(Um,my car was off, because there was a problem with my brakes,my legs were weak so I didn't get out immediately.A white car was speeding from behind and was about to hit my car from behind.I-I tried to get out,b-but couldn't unfasten my seatbelt and he-he took the crash for me.Gael took the crash for me.It was my fault! It was my fault!I should've been hurt, not him! )" Isabel was crying to the other party and the lady tried to comfort her.
"(It's not your fault miss.Don't worry, everything will be fine.Help will be there soon. Please continue.Did you know one of the victims?)"
"(Yes,I know him.He was trying to help me stop the car a-and took the hit!I wasn't hurt,b-but he won't move a-and he won't answer!)"
"(How many cars were affected?)"
"(Only three.)"
"(Were there any passerbys or other cars that witnessed the accident?)"
"(No.)"
While Isabel was answering the questions the ambulances finally arrived, with the police and with the firefighters.
Everybody was doing their job and soon they got the victim out of the cars and send them to the hospital.Isabel begged the workers to get in and after she insisted, they finally got her in.
Her heart ached seeing Gaels bloodstained body, but no matter how she wanted to cry and scream she didn't dare throw a tantrum.Doing so would make the work for the healthcare workers harder,so she kept it in and only stared from the corner quietly, trying to make her presence as unnoticeable as possible.
It only took a few minutes to arrive in the hospital.Isabel quickly chased from behind and waited outside for the doctors to do their work and report his situation. A nurse urged Isabel,to also get a treatment and a general check up,for any internal injuries. She refused many times, but finally gave in and went to the emergency ward to get treated.
When Isabels treatment was finished,it didn't take long for Gaels surgery to finish.
The doctor reported that there wasn't anything major, but there were a few fractures and they would also scan his brain, for any internal injuries. His reflexes weren't bad and it didn't suggest any injury or brain hemorrhage, but it would be better to be sure. For now, what mattered was for the first 24 hours to pass.If there weren't any sudden complications, then they would move him in a normal room.
Since the policies were strict for visiting patients in surveillance, the only thing Isabel could do was wait outside sitting on one of the benches. She didn't notice when 2 policeman approached her.
"(Are you miss Isabel Ricci?)"
Isabel raised her head."(Yes,that's me.)"
"(Can you please come with us to give a testimony for the accident that you were involved?)"
"(Of course.Will it take long?)"
"(Don't worry miss Ricci,it won't take too much of your time.)"
"(Okay then.Please lead the way.)"
