Chapter 20: Songstress Demon
In another location, a silver haired boy was also engrossed in his own battle.
Skye shot his guns crazily as he looked at a bunch of roach like creatures with deadly looking wings and a massive stinger on their rump. They were also equipped with sharp horns and dangerous poison that they shot out of their mouths that smelled like rotting corpses. Plus, they were hard to kill, and because of their slightly large number, Skye could not stay focused on the fight as the creatures aggressively put pressure on him.
"Man! What the hell? I'd never think that these beasts would be so tough!"
"Shit! I'm almost running out of shots! And time! I'll have to end this quickly before these things go on cooldown. What do I do?—" A little sweat dripped down his chin.
"Let's try something else, then." Skye said as he stretched out his palm. A black and red katana appeared as a dim glow flashed. He grasped it tightly.
I haven't really tried this yet. I hope I can pull this off. He thought as he looked at the grotesque looking creatures.
Holding the sword tightly, he rushed at the beasts with such speed while a dark aura covered both of them.
"Dark Blade Art: Swift Shadow!" He shouted.
A black blur flashed, and the heads of two beasts rolled down a second later.
It feels really fun to shout out the name of my moves out loud. Hehe. Skye thought as a grin appeared on his face.
But the grin soon fell off his face as the fallen heads rose up and attached themselves to the thoraxes of the presumably dead creatures. The creatures flashed a disgusting grin like expression at Skye.
"What the fuck is this shit?!" Skye said in shock as vulgar profanities spilled out of his mouth.
The creatures continued to rush towards Skye, some of them managing to land a few cuts on him.
As if that was not enough, Skye's head began to pulse with pain as a loud scream rang throughout the area.
KREE!
Taking Skye's moment of discombobulation as an opportunity, one of the bugs landed a fierce hit on Skye's torso, sending him flying a few feet. Another one spat out a mouthful of poison at Skye, which the latter managed to dodge narrowly. But some of the poison splashed on his chest, corroding through his gear and sending a wave of bone chilling pain down his spine.
Skye screamed in agony. But he was able to react quickly and brought out a bottle of mercury like red liquid that he soon gulped down without a care in the world.
The poison burn soon faded from his skin as if it was never there in the first place, beautiful pale like skin showing through the slight hole that showed evidence of corrosion. Skye heaved a sigh, taking deep and rugged breaths as he looked at the newcomer.
A humanoid creature, with pale blue skin, long grey hair, long sharp claws on all four limbs, a grotesque looking face with sharp teeth, and demonic purple eyes that will strike a horrific impression to all looking at it for the first time approached Skye and the beasts.
The beasts seemed to acknowledge the newcomer as a leader of sorts, as they unanimously made way for the humanoid being as it walked towards the recuperating Skye.
KREE!
"Chatter! Chatter!" The newcomer made some strange noises.
"Is it— trying to communicate with me?" Skye asked in astonishment.
"But what the FUCK is it fucking trying to say?" Skye grasped his ears. The screeching noises caused slight blood to trickle down his ears.
Bang!
A gun with slight smoke coming out from it's barrel, was pointed at the humanoid creature, whose face was slightly dripping with blood, evidence of an injury. Madness filled the creature's face as it let out a banshee like scream.
KREE!
The insectoid like creatures rushed at Skye with their massive looking stingers, ready to pierce through him without the slightest hesitation.
Skye dodged swiftly. Another gun took the place of the sword as he continued to fire shots at the creatures.
"I might have to use the Twin Pulse Shot. Damn it all!" He thought out loud as he looked at the guns in his palms.

Sigh. What do I fucking do now? Skye thought as the bugs kept getting closer and closer.
"That one hasn't even attacked yet." He looked at the humanoid creature.
Suddenly, Skye leapt up into the air while a bright glow appeared on the gun on his left hand. He pointed his right hand at a pair of insectoids as hundreds of white lights flew towards them. But before it could reach the creatures, a black shadow appeared in front of them and deflected the numerous hits with claws as black as night, sending the blasts sporadically flying across all sides of the slightly large area, causing various rocks to shatter.
Sounds of rumbling filled the entirety of the area as a larger sized rock crashed onto the ground. Skye heaved a weary sigh.
"So strong. Think Skye. What can you do in this situation? What weaknesses can you exploit? Focus. Breathe." Skye muttered a small mantra.
Skye put the two guns in their holsters and an obsidian sniper appeared in his hands.
He aimed at the humanoid creature.
The creature, sensing Skye's gaze, turned towards him with a maniacal grin on its face. Its figure blurred before Skye's vision.
Whoosh! Slash!
Before Skye could even react, a bloody gash appeared on his back. Skye turned his neck to look at the creature with abject horror in his eyes.
He quickly put a distance between himself and the creature. It seemed as if the creature had no intention of chasing towards him as it just stood there with crimson blood dripping from its dark claws and a horror inducing grin on its ugly face.
Skye breathed heavy breaths as he looked at the creature, with tens of insectoids cornering him from all directions. Slight waves of pain coursed through his body.
'Weak.' A voice sounded in his head.
'What the?— Oh. It's you. What do you want?' Skye thought after a brief moment of realization.
'You don't seem to be surprised hearing my voice. Should I say it is to be expected? Or—' The voice sounded in Skye's head once again.
'Look! What the fuck do you want from me? I understand you have been pestering me for a while now but I'm really in a bind here. I've got no time to chat.' Skye thought in annoyance.
'You're going to die— and your weakness will become the cause of your untimely end.' The voice sounded with a calm edge.
'What the hell do you mean?'
'Take a look at your enemies. Tell me what you see. Tell me what you feel.'
Skye looked at the beasts surrounding him and said with a slight chuckle.
'All I see is bunch of monsters staring at me as if they wanna rip off my head from my throat right this second, and I feel like I'm gonna die.'
'What a disappointment. Look closely.' The voice sounded once again.
'Aw. Can't you take a joke?' Skye thought, but he soon took a closer look at the beasts.
A few seconds later, he soon felt something, a mysterious feeling swelling up from the depths of his soul.
'What's this feeling? Heavens' Grimoire?' Skye asked, and then his eyes throbbed as something appeared in his vision.

Skye was shocked at the amounts of information that suddenly showed up in his vision. But there was something else that filled his mind.
Fear. Wariness. Caution.
'Who —are you? How do you know about the existence of the book? What is your purpose here?' Skye thought. He almost said this out loud, but soon controlled himself. But that did not reduce the fear in his heart.
'Tut, Tut, Tut, you really shouldn't be focusing on that at a time like this, don't you think?' The voice said with an almost mocking tone to it.
Skye's heart turned cold, as did his face.
