Chapter 9 - Target

Chapter 09 — Target

As Skye looked into the distance and saw Garris nocking his arrow into his bow and preparing for his next shot, he smirked.

'Wanna play with long range weapons? I'll take you on! Let's see if your puny bow can stand a chance against my sniper!'

He quickly took out his sniper again and pointed the gun at Grimm's direction, and then he fired a shot at him which the latter quickly dodged.

Grimm soon switched directions and started firing arrows at Skye with a shocking speed, evidence that he had a decent proficiency in archery.

Meanwhile, Skye was quickly losing out in the battle, having to dodge, defend and retaliation against the incoming attacks of the two men.

'I can't keep on going like this. It's hard enough fighting against these two men with their pincer attacks limiting my movement, not to mention that I still have to be careful of incoming attacks from the other guy standing in the sidelines.'

As Skye was slowly getting overwhelmed by the attacks of the two men, he suddenly made an unexpected decision.

He suddenly threw his sniper into the air.

His sudden action stunned the three men and distracted them for a second. But that second was enough to allow Skye to quickly flash through and tie up Lawthor with his sharp chains and point his sword at the latter's throat.

"Hehehe! You got me! But you'd better watch your back!" Lawthor said with a sinister grin.

As soon as he said those words, a arrow was sent flying towards his back with a whoosh. Skye gracefully dodged it without the slightest bit of effort, but just then a punch soon landed on his back with the force of a car going at 70mph, sending him a few feet into the air and crashing on to the ground with a bang.

Crash!—Bang!—Tumble!

'Ugh, that hit sure packed quite the punch. I'm feeling sore–everywhere–Cough!' He thought as he got up from the ground.

'Man! This was what I was afraid would happen. Now I have to deal with the big dog along with the other small dogs. Not what I planned when I woke up this morning! Ow!'

"I thought this guy was supposed to be pretty strong since he was able to kill off the boys like that, but man! This guy is a total weakling! How pathetic!" Lawthor said with a condescending grin on his face.

"You're one to talk! Why weren't you spouting off trash talk when he was whooping your ass earlier? You moron! But you are right, he is kinda weak, I really expected more from the guy! I barely felt anything from that punch from before! Guess I'll just have to punch him to death and see if he squeals. Hehehe!"

Grimm just had one thought going through his mind when he heard the two of them speaking so unabashedly.

'These two idiots! ARE they even trying to notice that he was barely injured from that hit earlier! And why are they still talking? They're supposed to finish him off right now. I have my own plans. And I will not let these two buffoons ruin it with their foolishness!'

As Grimm thought this in his mind, he shot an arrow in Skye's position. But as the arrow whizzed through and was about to pierced his body, Skye's hand soon stopped it in its path.

"Hey you two— that's right— you two dogs!—ever heard of the saying–Don't count your chickens before they hatch?" Skye asked them.

""Chickens? Hatch?""

"What the hell is this fool spouting?" One voice asked.

"I dunno man! You were here with me right? We both heard it!" Another voice continued.

'Oh! I totally forgot! Some of the idioms on Earth might not be known to the people of Gaia. I totally forget that I am not really on Earth! My memories must be playing a big one on me. Hah! I will totally look like an idiot if I don't say something cool right about now.' Skye thought.

Skye continued coolly. "What it means is—before you two start spouting off trash from your digusting mouths— make sure that you have defeated your enemy—me. Now— only death awaits you."

"Ha! Don't get cocky! You think you're a match for three of us at once. Keep dreaming you idiot!" Lawthor said with a shout.

"Maybe, maybe not, you are quite the talkative one aren't you? I may not have much of a fighting chance against you three, but I think— that my chances would improve if there were only two of you, or don't you think so? Which is why– there's only going to be two of you." Skye said as he suddenly pulled on his chain dagger at the end of his shortsword.

Sharp chains suddenly burst out of from the ground and bound Lawthor's neck. Skye then leapt onto the air with a flash. He pulled on the chains and then...

SQUELCH!

Lawthor's head was severed from his body in a bloody and grisly pulp. It flew up into the air and landed in front of Garris' vision. Garris looked on in slight horror as he saw his partner's head, confusion, fear and an extreme unwillingness to die was shown on the severed head, eyes still open. Grimm also happened to see the look on the severed head and as he turned and looked upon Skye who was in the air, he had a horrific thought.

'This guy, he may not look it, but he is extremely bloodthirsty, just his way of fighting chills me to the bone. I have a feeling that even Black Snake might not be a match for him. In that case, I have to get outta here! I can't DIE here! I haven't completed my mission yet! NO! NO! NO! I CAN'T DIE HERE!' He roared in his mind.

Meanwhile, Skye who was floating down from the air with profound grace, looked down on the two men and said coolly.

"Now— there's only two left. Time to end this fight. It has gone on long enough."

His words, while not particularly loud, was still audible enough for the two men to hear. The way they heard Skye said those words, filled them with an endless chill, such that even in the cool of the forest, they both had cold sweat trickling down their faces.

'This guy! He's a monster!' They thought in horror.

"You— you! Don't think you've won! Even with your strength, fighting the two of us would still prove to be a bit of a stretch. So...don't...ge-get cocky because you managed to kill Lawthor!" Garris said with anger, trying to rid himself of the terror that filled his body, but it was painfully obvious that it didn't work. Even he himself did not fully believe his words. But the next words that came out of Skye's mouth only served to confirm it.

"That may be true— but in your current condition, I don't think you even have the will to fight me. So then— let me put you guys out of your misery, once and for all." Skye said while throwing his dagger at the burly man, which the latter blocked with his weapon.

"That's it?! You talk all this nonsense only to throw a puny dagger at me! Do you take me for a fool— or an idiot?! You what I think? I think you don't have the strength nor the guts to kill me. Yeah! That's right! Come on you arrogant bastard!" Garris said with a cocky grin on his face.

Grimm didn't say say anything and silently stood by the side, preparing for his next shot while also making plans to escape or beg for his life if need be.

"Oh really...." The two men heard a voice that seemed as if it was coming from all directions.

"But you see— I've already made my move, and you won't need to be alive to see it. Oh! And just so you know, in my opinion, out of all the three of you that stood before me in battle, you are the stupidest and most foolish among them. See you, big guy." The voice was heard once again, but this time, the owner of the voice could be seen slashing Grimm's neck and kicking him to the side.

"You! But how! I didn't even see your moves! How is that possible?!" Grimm said with fear on his face.

"I have no interest in satisfying the wishes of a dying man like you—but— to answer your question, simple illusion really— without even using magic, you died without knowing how. I don't have the interest to explain it to you, so— rest in peace— or in pieces, whichever suits you." Skye said with his back to the dying—no—dead man.

He looked at the archer and said to him. "Come out and surrender your life! You should know that you have no hope of surviving against me, let alone winning. So– we can either do this the easy way, or the hard way."

Soon enough, a man came out of hiding and stood before him.

"I ask that you let me live. Please!" He said with a kneel.

"Well, this is interesting—what should I do with you? Hmm....."
