He wanted to take things slow with the dwarves as according to Fernandes, they had a strong backing and the weapon Kyle saw was also pretty intimidating. Yet before intimidation, the strong desire to get all those technological knowledge for his dungeon was there.
He didn't want to just forcefully take some stuff that would only last for some years before someday getting destroyed, he wanted all the knowledge on paper of how to make those things from scratch. It was something he knew they won't give but Kyle was even okay with being forceful, it would all depend on how the dwarves further their relationship.
