Chapter 12 - 12 Don't let him kill me

Already closer to his home estate, Robert got a call from the only maid at home that Katherine has been taken to the hospital. He was even shocked that what had happened was no minor accident but that she had fallen high atop the railing at the third floor to the ground. Robert quickly turned his car to go see his wife.

While at the hospitals, reporters asked questions while photographers took pictures. They had gotten the news that the Ambassador's wife had had a serious accident. They filed their questions one by one all together at the hospital's lobby, but Robert answered none. He looked rather worried, both for his wife and the unborn child. He ache to know how they are doing. He prayed inwardly that the worse hasn't happened. He mange to get past the crowds with the help of the security.

The doctor responsible for the treatment had gone on to tell Robert her fall has caused severe damages, most especially to her pregnancy. Though she survived but the fall had lead to her miscarriage. He lead the way to where Katherine is being attended to. Robert found his wife hospital bed by the window. Her arm which has been bandage is supported by an adjustable hospital stand.

"Will she be fine?" Robert asks the doctor. Sadness missed with worry is written all over his face.

"Well, she will recover. She has a concussion, a break in the humerus, which is why her arm is bandage and in support because of the fracture. And well of course internal bleeding." The doctor broke his findings as quickly as possible.

But it only awe Robert when the doctor spill the last sentence, "Internal bleeding? But she is pregnant.

"No, not anymore."

"She lost it?" Robert became unsure of him but he knew the answer all along. He had bet on going insane if he looses this child but now his wife is in a bad situation too and she needed him more than ever.

Seeing the grave look in Roberts face, the doctor decided to be more engaging with the bereaved,

"You still got allot to be grateful for. She is still alive and with proper care, she can still have children." Robert heard what the doctor had to say, even if he didn't need it right now. Though the doctor had been right on one part, he needed to be grateful he had not lost the love of his life. The nurse inside the OPD came to the duo outside to tell them that Katherine is already awake. Robert nods at the doctor before going inside.

Taking a closer look at Katherine, Robert saw how seriously injured she is now aside from the fractured arm. Her head had been bandage while a cervical collar is placed around her neck. Katherine saw her husband inches away. Her voice wasn't beyond a whisper when she called his name, "Robert,"

Seeing that she is trying to reach out to him, Robert quickly came forward. Shushing her to stop struggling to talk anymore. He combed her hair spread around her pillow affectionately.

"Robert," She called his name again this time afraid. "Don't let him kill me, don't let him kill me." She cried while she kept repeating those words.

Robert bent closer to give her comfort. He felt dead himself for seeing Katherine this way, scared for her life. He knew she was talking about their son.

Late at home, Robert went to where Katherine had fallen. He squeeze his palm against his face to stop himself from crying. He walk towards Damien's room. At the door he saw that the little child was fast asleep. He came in slowly to go seat close to Damien but was only interrupted by a growling sound from the silhouette of the same wide rottweiler. Like how is this possible, he thought. Robert had ordered Mrs Baylocks that the dog be taken away. She had disobeyed him. Mrs Baylocks isn't around until tomorrow else he would have enquire from her about the dog. He will have to deal with this animal in his home till the next day. Besides, Mrs Baylocks had told Robert Damien had great liking for the dog and that the dog wouldn't hurt him. His thoughts was interrupted by his phone ringing. He went out to answer it.

"Yes?"

"Am sorry to disturb you Ambassador Thorn."

"Who is this?"

"My name is Keith Jennings. I am one of the photographers at your son's fifth birthday party. I wonder if it would be possible to have a word with you here in my flat." Robert made a frown face while he replied

"If its about the photographs...."

"No it isn't, Mr Thorn." Keith interjected, "Its about you and the priest."

Now Robert was intrigued. Keith Jennings had went on to explain where he lived. Robert drove there immediately wanting to know what Keith knows about Father Brennan.

In his flat, Keith showed a photograph of Damien's first nanny at Damien birthday party, while everyone gather around to see him cut his cake. The photograph was in black and white and it was placed in front of a large white torch. He asked,

"Do you notice anything unusual." Robert squint his eyes to get a better view of what is off with the picture but couldn't. Keith points his fingers around the nanny's neck in the photograph,

"Do you see this Mr Thorn, this white visible line around your son's nanny neck." Now Robert sees it, though the line did not pronounce well. "First I thought there was a fault with my camera. Then," Keith place another picture front of the torch. "this strange coincidence."

Keith was right, the picture of the nanny body still hanging freely from the estate rhymed with the first picture Keith brought up.

Now Keith brought another picture front of the torch. It was Father Brennan picture.

"Then it happens again outside the Embassy. Interesting don't you think." Robert look closely at what the Keith points at. The visible line made contact with Father Brennan body at an angle. He brings another picture he took of Father Brennan, place it in front of the torch for Robert to see.

"This I took of him at the football game. Now look at this." Keith points at the visible line in Father Brennan picture.

"Same thing." Robert was surprised.

"And its more pronounced this time, which is actually making direct contact with the body. Unless history took his course." He brought the last photograph for Robert to see. It was the day Father Brennan was killed by a pole close to church.
