On the fifth year of their marriage, the Thorn household was greeted with news of Katherine now pregnant.

"At last," Katherine said beaming to her husband whom she found in his study room. She held a brown envelope high. "Read this."

Robert opened the envelope and read through the medical records and vocabulary typed on the sheet of paper. He looked up at his wife to confirm.

"Is this for real, we are having a child? Am gonna be a dad?"

"Yes." Katherine kept smiling.

"Oh my God." Robert placed both his palm to his mouth. He could not contain the joy. After four years, a child will make their home lively again. He strode to his wife, hugged and kissed her deeply.

During Katherine first and second trimester, Katherine has been so determined to take care of her child. Robert isn't left alone as he hired more maids to take care of their two storey home. He made sure Katherine meet up with her personal gynecologist.

In Katherine eight month of pregnancy, she started to feel restless as she starts to see light bleeding and her baby kicked very hard in her belly. She called for her doctor. The doctor examined her and her stomach. The red flag is up, Katherine will be giving birth any moment and prematurely too.

Robert got to the hospital, which he had been told his wife had been referred in. He was scared when he heard the news about his wife already in labour. But she isn't nine months due yet. 𝑶𝒉 𝑮𝒐𝒅, he prayed silently.

He came upon one of the nurse who also was attending to his wife in the operating room. The nurse was in a hurry and had no time to explain.

"Your wife needs to be operated and your child is in a difficult position." The nurse was curt while she stretch forward a file for Robert to sign in. The file was permission to perform the operation whether on saving the child's live or that of the mother. Robert had to choose. He was in a very difficult spot. As he held on to the pen given to him, tears strode down his cheeks staining the file wet. Why him and Katherine. His shaking fingers signed on the file. The nurse took it with hurry and went into the operating room.

Robert strode away from the corridor, knowing the heartbreaking decision he had taken, his wife life will be save. He went to the hospital chapel and cried silently. Maybe cursing God for what his dearest Katherine will go through if she founds out that she lost the baby.

"Cry not brother, for its not yet too late. I saw you by the operating room and I know that you love your wife dearly." An elderly man in full collar shirt and black cassock tries to ease Robert plight. Father Stiletto was his name and he was the hospital's chaplain Catholic Priest.

"What do you mean its not too late?" Inquisitive Robert asked amidst tears in his eyes.

"There is an orphan boy born just today, he lost his mother during the child's birth. The little child will fill your home with great joy if you take him as your own."

"But he is not my child. Katherine wants a child of her own."

"Your wife don't need to know Mr Thorn. Take my word for it, she will love this child as if its hers if you tell her nothing of an adoption."

Robert stood up, "where is this child?"

"Right this way." The Priest directed him to the nursery where the child was being cared for by a nurse in his cradle.

Robert went into the nursery to see the child. His face lit up with joy. The child before him was so beautiful and healthy. An healthy baby boy. The Priest asked the child be given to Robert so he can carry him in his arms. In his arms the child felt so calm and at peace while he sleeps. He held the child close to him, not willing to let him go.

"Get the papers ready for his adoption Father." Robert quickly said and the Priest nods to his requests.

Unconscious Katherine slowly woke up to see Robert cradling a child in his arms walking back and forth.

"Is the our child?" Katherine said slowly smiling amidst her pains.

Robert quickly but steadily went to his wife, the child still in his arms. "Yes dear." He lowered the child to Katherine arms steadily. The child was still sound asleep. Robert dabbed at her eyes because of the tears gushing out of her eyelids. He kissed her on her forehead.

"Have you given him a name?" Katherine asked

Robert smiled at his wife, "Damien."

"Damien." Katherine replied back while she kissed the child, her own child.
