Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

Looking at Xod, Nyx shakes her head, "I haven't mastered this yet. Unless the next lesson is to hear while you are outside of the shadows. It will do no good to continue to the next lesson. One's foundation in a technique should become solid. I shouldn't leave such a glaring hole in my information gathering skills.

"I shouldn't move onto understanding any more about the shadow realm till I can gather information properly, and stay hidden. But at the moment I can barely collect the information while in the realm. Let alone be able to gather any information that come from outside of it."

Laughter fills the room, patting her head Xod says, "You are correct there except for one thing. That is not the shadow realm. That is the space created when the shadow realm meets Midyarle."

"That is interesting. Then lets continue to work on my ability to gather information from the in-between area then. Then hiding my presence within it. I will come to understand more about this area as I train within it.

"Not to question your ability as a teacher though. It would be better if I come to understanding though actual experiecne rather then being told how it works. Being guided is one thing. But being given the answers of how to work the area is not how I will improve.

"If anything I will stunt my own growth just listening to how it is done. My understanding can at least keep growing. Being given the answer is just a shortcut to how its done and isn't necessary. You should be able to understand," Nyx replies.

Smiling he has her enter the area once again. Within the darkness she tries lets the shadow strings enter her ears. Not being able to hear him, she moves around slowly. Closing her eyes she turns her head. Not hearing anything still, she tries to detect the mana in the area around her instead.

'Perhaps I shouldn't be using the shadow strings at all. They might just be the beginner method. Would take far to long to learn how to hear with them. Would be far more efficient to learn the ability to perceive the world through mana instead. But then again there would be areas devoid of any mana what then. Well one step at a time. I will figure something out for that later.'

After several minutes of trying to perceive the mana of this meeting point of the shadow plane and Midyarle, she manages to sense a few bits of mana. 'The mana is sparse in this place. Why is that? However more curious is how it seems to be follow the shadow strings instead of just flowing where-ever it wants to.

'Shouldn't the mana be able to flow more freely even here, or is it because of the mixture of Midarle and the Shadow Plane that even though there is both mana and shadow strings, they still manage to flow as one unit and not as separate things.'

Paying attention to how the mana sticks to the shadow strings she rubs her chin. Using her will she tries to move the mana off of the shadow string. As she does so, the shadow string starts to follow the mana to the side. Narrowing her eyes, she wonders why this is.

Looking at it she tries to separate a piece of the shadow string that has mana. Cutting the shadow string she notices how it continues to keep flowing in the same direction. After a few second it quickly catches up and reattaches to the cut of part.

Looking at this she tilts her head. 'So why did it basically repair itself? What is going on with the relationship between the mana and the shadow lines. There is also that other energy connected to the shadow lines. Maybe that other energy and mana have a special relationship with one another.

'Sense they can exist close together it may be possible to form another core with that energy. Probably is done the same way, I should give it a try after I leave. Actually even if there isn't much of it here, I should try to form a core with it here. It might lead me to understand more about the shadow strings as well.'

With that thought she starts to bring in all the mana and that energy around her that she can. As she does so, many shadow strings flow into her body as well. Not paying attention to them, as she is already having a hard time keeping the mana and that other energy from colliding with each other. Forcing the mana into a core she slowly brings the other energy to another spot.

Letting the mana saturate the core she focuses more heavily on compressing that other energy. After several hours of hard work she managed to condense that energy into a core. Looking at this core she is shocked that it isn't white like the mana core, but is instead a black color.

Confused as to why it is a different color she leaves the shadows. Looking at master Xod she she says, "I manage to form a core besides a mana core while trying to figure something else out. I don't understand why it is a different color to the mana core even though its made of the energy that appears next to mana."

"You have impressed me greatly to already be sensing the mana and miasma within the shadows. To think you have even formed the miasma core as well. Well to answer your question. That is because mana and maisma are similar in many ways, but are opposites in nature.

"Their ranks go in reverse from each other. Where mana cores go from white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, purple, then black. Miasma core ranks are in the opposite direction of that. They both however need to go through the stages of gas, liquid and solid."

"So this is why the class is named the way it is. Well I can focus on forming more of them later. However I should get back to figuring out how to hear while within the shadows," she smiles as she sinks back into the shadows.

Looking up Xod thinks, 'what a talent she has. Her siblings are probably just as talented but with whatever elements they are more entuned with. Have I made a mistake in training one of them though?' Xod sighs to himself.
