The battle continues. Everyone was tired, killing most of the entire goblins whilst the queen and king goblins only had a few scratches leaving the knights exhausted.
"If I knew that goblins would be this much of a hindrance, I would have improved my magic prowess!"
Not everyone wishes for more power. Some of them are content with what they have already because they don't see any reason to surpass their limits. People know that sooner or later they would hit a huge wall, an impenetrable obstacle wherein they should not bother themselves trying to breach.
"Mom, will the warriors in shining armor lose?" Asked a concerned kid.
The knights were clearly at a disadvantage, in both number and energy. Two of them were killed and three were injured.
It is just a matter of time before their fall happens if they don't turn the tables on the goblins.
Eugeo has been in countless bouts and he could see themselves losing against the unwavering calmness of the queen and king.
"I badly... want to wipe that expression on that goblin's face!"
Once again, Eugeo and Xenon, who were the only knights that could continue fighting, stood still in their unyielding pose.
"No one's gonna die anymore. Twice is already too much!"
They were Xenon's friends and comrades, people he bonded with as they grew fond of each other through sharing the same experience on the battlefield. Witnessing the deaths of his friends surely tore his heart but
he maintained an iron will and did not cry.
"That's what I like about you, Xenon." Eugeo smiled at Xenon's unyielding will. "It pains me to see more of our comrades get hurt and die but a warrior in war must put his mission first before anything else."
"I know..."
The remaining puny goblins who acted as meat shields for the queen dispersed once again in the dark.
"Shouldn't we send the healers to treat the injured knights so they could help Eugeo and Xenon?"
Xenon's wife watched his back with her hands clasped together. Dearly, she prayed for her husband's safety.
"Yes! The healers should treat the wounded knights first!"
They sent the clerics and the single priest to the injured, even though the only thing they can do now is stop the bleeding, for they were constantly dealing with the civilians' injuries after their break.
As they proceeded to treat the injured knights who were lying on the ground, suffering in excruciating pain, suddenly, the king goblin did a full charge like a madman, guarding himself with the bark shield.
"His reckless actions plus the coordinated attacks from the queen goblin are really off-putting!"
Eugeo and Xenon could not dodge the charging king goblin at full speed with every strength poured into it.
"We won't let you get past us!"
In terms of strength, Eugeo triumphs over Xenon. But when it is the speed we are talking about, Xenon definitely will win.
However, being comrades should hold no competition when their life is on
the line. They should treat each other equally and make up for the things they are weak at.
Both of them steeled their resolve and their bodies to impede the huge opponent about to run over them.
"If we jump to the side, he will just easily get to our friends. He is hiding behind the bark shield. Penetrating it would be quite difficult."
A do-or-die situation is now on Eugeo's platter. There is no way he will halfheartedly try to stop the crushing idea of the king goblin.
"O wrath of the fallen, lend me your strength to overcome my opponent. Berserk!"
A red intimidating aura emits upon chanting and activating Eugeo's last resort.
"Watch out for flying arrows, Xenon! I'll take care of the king goblin!"
All of the reserved magic inside of Eugeo's mana core will be drained upon the activation of his ability "Berserk." It amplifies his strength and speed for a short span of time which Eugeo had deemed to be enough to finish off the king goblin by himself.
"Here he comes!"
Eugeo's tight grip found its mark on the blocking bark shield which covers most of the goblin's body.
Even with strength reinforcement, Eugeo was still slightly pushed, his feet skidding for about 4 inches away from where he stood. He felt the strong force being transferred to his body when he grabbed onto the king goblin.
Loudly, the king goblin let out a growl at top of its lungs. In Eugeo's perspective, he thought that the king goblin broke character but it was actually Xenon's doing.
Forcefully, the king goblin tried shaking Eugeo's grip off of him but the knight stubbornly held onto him, forcing him to let go of the bark shield otherwise he'd be sitting ducks with Xenon freely stabbing him from behind.
And there is no way the queen goblin would let Xenon run around
inflicting damage to the king goblin. She has to do what she ought to do. That is to support her partner from the unmitigated combination of Xenon and Eugeo, thus consecutively shooting arrows whilst predictably exposing a gap to finish off the healers.
"That's more like it, yeah?"
It was a sight for Eugeo to finally see the calmness in the king goblin's face fade away and distortion filled his expression.
As blood dripped at the side of the monster's mouth, Eugeo felt elation and satisfaction after so many tries of wiping off the calmness on his face.
Another exasperated growl echoed in Eugeo's ears and it gave him the chills and excitement his body was longing for after being stationed in the Virval Highlands which is basically monsterless after driving them away in their own home.
Eugeo excitedly unsheathed his sword while Xenon, on the other hand, played tricks on the queen goblin and evaded the arrows precisely with the same amount of effort he needed to render the shots useless.
Slowly, Eugeo and Xenon's tandem was somehow becoming effective against the king and queen. And it also pisses the monsters off, seeing their tactics gradually turning futile and useless.
