In front of a young child, shooting his mother dead—such a deranged act truly lives up to the infamous reputation, and unsurprisingly, viewers outside the light screen began to curse and denounce it vehemently.
As for Erik Lehnsherr in the eternal space, he had regained his composure, at least on the surface. His expression was very calm, but the anger burning in his eyes was blazing intensely, just like the younger version of himself in the video.
Over the years, the hatred and anger had never faded, but the grown-up Erik had learned to be patient. He knew that impotent rage was useless at this moment; only by staying calm could he gain something from this future video.
In fact, Erik Lehnsherr was very surprised that the light screen suddenly showed a video from his childhood. Wanda and Spider-Man had plenty of future videos shown, so it stood to reason that Wolverine would have more than one segment as well. It was quite unexpected that it skipped to him so quickly.
Logan Howlett was also somewhat surprised. He thought he would see more of his own future in the light screen video, including what happened after he lost his memory, but there was only that one segment.
Glancing at Erik's impassive face, he curiously asked, "What's your ability? Telekinesis?"
Erik Lehnsherr replied coldly, "You'll see if you keep watching."
In the video, after witnessing his mother's death, the young Erik Lehnsherr finally erupted with his powers. Accompanied by his childish roar, a brass bell on the table seemed to be gripped by an invisible hand, being compressed and crushed into a lump. Sebastian Shaw applauded loudly, as this was exactly the result he wanted.
But young Erik's power didn't stop there. The metal objects in the office deformed one by one amidst his cries, as if a transparent hammer in the air was smashing them to pieces.
Seeing this, Wolverine's expression grew serious, suddenly realizing that this ability might be his nemesis!
"Can you control all metals?" Logan Howlett raised an eyebrow. He had just undergone the adamantium bonding process and was very concerned about Erik Lehnsherr's abilities.
Erik Lehnsherr shook his head but didn't elaborate further.
At this moment, the light screen video shifted to a lavishly decorated villa, where another boy around Erik's age, named Charles Xavier, lived. He was very handsome and came from a distinguished family, having been born into a life many could only dream of, especially compared to young Erik Lehnsherr.
One night, young Charles sensed an intruder. When he reached the kitchen, he saw his mother, but immediately recognized she was an imposter, despite her perfect disguise.
Charles's mother had never been to the kitchen. As a lady of high society, she wouldn't handle mundane tasks like cooking or making tea, which were done by maids. Thus, Charles instantly determined that the 'mother' before him was a fake.
Young Charles was very intelligent and also a mutant with superpowers. Though he kept his mouth shut, he could project his voice into others' minds, communicating telepathically.
Since her identity was exposed, the 'lady' reverted to her true form—a blue-skinned girl, stark naked, resembling a mythical siren. If it had been any other child, they might have been scared to tears, but Charles smiled, unafraid, as he had finally found a kindred spirit.
Both children were mutants. The blue-skinned girl was named Raven, abandoned by her family because of her unusual appearance and unable to fit into society. She survived by using her shapeshifting ability. She had infiltrated Charles's home, posing as his mother, just to find some food.
Young Charles felt an immediate kinship with her and adopted her, treating Raven as his own sister. As they grew up, Charles became a dashing and elegant young man, while Raven, though still blue-skinned, lost her childhood cuteness and looked more like a freak.
Charles and Raven grew up together, almost like childhood sweethearts. Charles, gentle and understanding, could read minds and understand others easily, always treating Raven very well.
Raven, due to her blue skin, was always ostracized, even by her own family. Thus, she developed feelings for Charles, who accepted her without reservation.
However, it was clear that Charles saw her only as a sister. They also had ideological differences. Charles's gentleness and tolerance extended to everyone, not just Raven.
He knew the kind of treatment mutants would face in human society. As the mutant population grew, racial issues would become more severe, but Charles remained optimistic, believing that humans and mutants would eventually understand and accept each other.
Raven, however, doubted this. While Charles could accept her, what about others? Even her own parents rejected her, let alone strangers. Nevertheless, living with Charles for so long, she was somewhat influenced by his optimism. If one day mutants and humans could live together without prejudice, that would indeed be her dream too.
"So naive," Erik Lehnsherr sneered. "Humans have deep-seated prejudices and animosities among themselves, which have persisted for thousands of years. They can't even accept each other, let alone mutants."
Logan Howlett, arms crossed, didn't comment, but it was evident that Erik Lehnsherr was a radical, while the Charles in the video was a moderate. These two were bound to clash, leading to an inevitable and explosive confrontation.
At this moment, the light screen finally showed Erik Lehnsherr again. The once young boy had grown up, but the traumatic experiences of his childhood had left indelible marks on him, just like the numbers tattooed on his arm, representing the painful memories of the concentration camp.
The grown-up Erik Lehnsherr was determined and resolute, having spent years tracking down Sebastian Shaw to avenge his mother's death.
