Chapter 540 - Witch Agatha Harkness

After learning about the conspiracy of the director of S.W.O.R.D., Monica and her companions became even more eager to enter the illusion of Westview to warn and remind Wanda.

Monica's mother left her with many contacts, which now proved useful, providing equipment to pass through the energy barrier. After all preparations were made, Monica changed into a spacesuit-like outfit and boarded a specially-made vehicle, planning to cross the energy barrier again.

What was thought to be a foolproof plan turned awry when the vehicle flipped over not long after starting, throwing Monica to the ground. Her companions were shocked but before they could prevent her, Monica determined, decided to breach the energy barrier without the aid of any tools, enduring the pain and immense pressure to get through the barrier.

Monica had already been affected by the energy barrier before, causing mutations in her cells. Daisy had warned her that crossing the barrier recklessly again might cost her life. In other words, Monica was willing to pay with her life to prevent a conspiracy and tragedy from happening.

Outside the screen, Peter couldn't help but praise, "She is a responsible and admirable person. I don't understand why such good people can't make decisions within organizations. Shouldn't S.W.O.R.D. be like the police, maintaining world peace and stability? Why would they choose someone like Tyler Hayward, who is selfish and full of schemes, as their leader?"

Wanda shrugged, spreading her hands: "Who knows? Before S.W.O.R.D., there was S.H.I.E.L.D. with a man who didn't trust anyone, and I didn't think he was a good person either. But it seems, that only in superhero organizations can good people have a say, like the Justice League or the Avengers."

At this point, Wanda, although she had joined the Avengers and the Multiverse Defenders, honestly didn't feel much identification with these superhero organizations. It was purely because of a quiz game that she chose to join these superheroes for solidarity.

If it were the normal timeline, Wanda and her brother would still be undergoing human experiments by Hydra, filled with thoughts of revenge against Tony. However, after the quiz game revealed a series of future videos, they saw things differently, though they still harboured some resentment, preferring to interact and communicate with the Justice League within the Multiverse Defenders.

Quicksilver and the Flash, had a close relationship, instantly hitting it off and racing for fun. Meanwhile, Wanda became close friends with Wonder Woman, who taught Wanda many combat skills and introduced her to many feminist ideas. At this moment, Wanda's perspective, especially regarding love, was significantly different from her original timeline; she preferred spending her life with Diana over being with a robot.

After drifting into her thoughts for a while and focusing back on the screen, Monica seemed to transform due to some strange energy as she crossed the energy barrier. She could almost hear the encouragement of Captain Marvel and her deceased mother, which helped Monica successfully cross the barrier.

Upon entering Westview again, the world before her eyes completely changed, with every object emitting colourful halos. Monica's eyes also seemed to flicker with blue light, similar to a robot's.

Monica's bravery and kindness were rewarded; she quietly completed a life transformation through the energy barrier, gaining superpowers.

It could also be said that superheroes often follow in their parent's footsteps. Monica's mother, although not a superhero, was Captain Marvel's comrade and close friend and one of the founders of S.W.O.R.D., making Monica's background quite distinguished.

However, Monica, now in Westview, didn't explore her own changes but immediately sought out Wanda's home to inform her of S.W.O.R.D.'s conspiratorial plans.

Yet, Wanda, already infuriated by S.W.O.R.D.'s provocative actions, mistakenly associated the inexplicable Pietro with S.W.O.R.D., believing that this familiar yet strange brother was deliberately created by S.W.O.R.D. to mess with her mindset. She naturally vented her anger on Monica, refusing to deal with her and attacking her directly.

Wanda, using her telekinetic powers, bound Monica with scarlet energy and lifted her into the air. Then, with a wave of her hand, Monica was harshly smashed to the ground. If it were before, Monica would definitely have been knocked unconscious.

But the now superpowered Monica was no longer the same. She landed on one knee, making a dramatic 'heroic entrance'.

Wanda was momentarily stunned, and Monica herself was a bit surprised too, but she knew that the most important thing at the moment was to persuade Wanda. So, she used logic and emotion, sharing her own experiences to subtly convince Wanda to stop.

Wanda was caught in a whirlwind of thought and conflict, seemingly somewhat persuaded. Monica saw her chance to strike while the iron was hot, but just then, their neighbour Agnes intervened, interrupting their conversation under the pretext of Wanda's mental instability and forcibly took her away.

Monica sighed helplessly, not pursuing further, worrying about overdoing it, risking a confrontation with both Wanda and herself.

Meanwhile, the audience outside the screen was aware that this neighbour, Agnes, along with the director of S.W.O.R.D., Tyler Hayward, were the puppeteers behind the scenes. Was it finally time for their plans to be fully revealed?

Agnes took Wanda to her home, where, just a short while ago, Wanda's children had also been taken. However, the children were nowhere to be seen in the house at the moment. Realizing something was amiss, Wanda asked where her children had gone.

Agnes casually prepared drinks and snacks for her, mentioning offhandedly that the kids were playing in the basement. Following her down, Wanda discovered the basement was quite peculiar, its walls and pillars densely enveloped by vines, with a ram's head trophy and faintly visible runes carved with special significance.

In a conspicuous part of the basement, there was a magic book placed on a wooden shelf. Wanda, surprised, took in everything around her. At that moment, Agnes appeared, holding a white rabbit. There was no longer any need for pretence, "You didn't think you were the only one in town who could use magic, did you? My name is Agatha Harkness. It's nice to finally meet you, dear."
