Chapter 477 - Inner Struggle

Arthur looked at Commissioner Gordon, who didn't fall for his trick and chuckled.

Peter analyzed honestly, "Actually, I was thinking, even the version of me from the original timeline would eventually become Spider-Man again. But the answer to this question is a bit tricky."

The four options given are all important figures to Spider-Man. Even Dr. Octopus, who is an enemy.

Bruce Wayne and Arthur judged that Peter in the video would eventually become Spider-Man again because only Spider-Man could deal with Dr. Octopus.

Now, facing this question, they were all puzzled. Commissioner Gordon thought for a moment and said, "Could it be option B? Love is always great, it can make a boy grow into a mature man."

Peter thought option B was also likely because, from the video, Mary Jane seemed to want to start over with him. With the blessing of love, perhaps he could firmly embrace his identity as Spider-Man.

Bruce Wayne shook his head, glanced at Arthur, and said, "I think it should be A, Peter. The future you, when giving up the identity of Spider-Man, must think of the late Uncle Ben. That is your inner struggle. Only your Aunt can help you untie this knot, right?"

His analysis was well-founded. Peter nodded in agreement, praising, "Mr. Wayne, you are truly meticulous and intelligent, always able to find the things we overlook."

Bruce just said solemnly, "Seeing from an observer's perspective allows for clearer insight, but I can't guarantee it's the correct answer."

Just then, the countdown for answering started. All four players pressed the answer buttons simultaneously. In the end, Peter successfully got the chance to answer first. Following Bruce's analysis, he chose A.

Other players, including Arthur, also chose A. The answers were soon revealed,

[Congratulations to player Peter Parker for answering correctly, gaining 4 points. Players Bruce Wayne, Player Jim Gordon, and Player Arthur Fleck all answered correctly, gaining 1 point each]

As the quiz ended, the video replayed. After Peter gave up being Spider-Man, his life seemed to enter a normal path, just an ordinary student who could casually pass by a daytime robbery without a change in expression.

Is this the life he hoped for?

On the other hand, someone was still thinking about him. Dr. Octopus, using funds from a bank robbery, was rebuilding the fusion machine, more advanced than the previous one but lacking a crucial element, tritium.

The rare tritium he used before was sponsored by Osborn Industries. Without bothering Osborn again, Dr. Octopus went to seek help from Harry Osborn. He needed him to be generous and support his dream.

One night, Dr. Octopus ambushed Harry, greeting his former Boss by grabbing him with mechanical arms and hanging him outside a tall building.

Harry, initially angry but now terrified, quickly agreed to provide tritium but with a condition. He demanded that Dr. Octopus capture his 'father's murderer,' Spider-Man, as part of the deal.

Dr. Octopus didn't refuse. He asked where to find Spider-Man, and Harry suggested looking for Peter. Dr. Octopus walked away straightforwardly, and just as he left, Harry rushed to remind him loudly, "Don't hurt Peter!"

Seeing this, Peter outside the screen couldn't help but touch his nose. Honestly, Harry, as a friend, had been good to him. He wondered what his good friend would do after these videos were exposed.

On the other side, Peter accompanied Aunt May to the cemetery to visit the late Uncle Ben. After returning home, May couldn't help but mention Ben's death and felt somewhat guilty.

She thought that if she hadn't insisted on Ben driving Peter to the library that day, maybe they could have avoided the tragedy.

Peter Parker could only slowly narrate the specific events of that day. He hadn't gone to the library but had participated in illegal fighting to win money, hoping to buy a car and impress his crush, Mary Jane.

This was what Peter initially thought when gaining superpowers – quite ordinary, without noble ideals behind it, just hoping to improve his life with his abilities.

But what happened later turned Peter Parker into Spider-Man.

He won the money, but the opponent refused to pay. As he left, he encountered robbers. Despite having the power to stop them, Peter watched them leave.

After the robbers ran off, in an attempt to steal a car to leave, Ben refused to yield to the criminals, leading to him being shot and killed.

This incident led Peter to become Spider-Man, always adhering to the motto, 'With great power comes great responsibility.'

He had never told Aunt May this truth before, feeling guilty and hesitant. But now, he couldn't hold it back anymore.

After hearing the story, May's face became extremely sad and painful, her eyes were shocked. Peter wanted to hold her hand, but May ignored him, looked at him, and finally walked away.

The scene shifted, showing Peter walking back in disappointment. However, he learned about a fire and that there was a little girl still inside. Without hesitation, he rushed into the burning building.

At this moment, he was no longer the nearly omnipotent Spider-Man but an ordinary, vulnerable teenager. Even opening a door hurt his hands.

Yet, despite this, Peter Parker did his best to rescue the little girl. After the incident, he ended up dirty and disheveled, and a firefighter next to him gave him a thumbs up, saying, "Kid, you've got guts."

However, there were still people in the building who didn't make it out. Peter fell into contemplation. If he were still Spider-Man, he could have saved a precious life!
