It was morning when Ava finished her rounds. She followed the path, leading to the locker room.
Quincy was behind her all along. Ava didn't notice. Her mind was preoccupied with her fiancé cheating. "Are you alright?"
She jolted slightly. "My, God you surprised me, Quin! How long have you been in my back?"
Quincy smiled and rolled her eyes in the air. "Don't try to avert the topic. We both know you just want me to change the topic."
Ava fell silent and heaved a sigh. "I'm fine… I guess."
Quincy shook her head. "That asshole fiancé of yours needs to learn a lesson," she cracks her knuckles.
Ava shook her head. "N-No."
Amidst being played like a fool, Ava knew she still loved Zach.
Quincy crossed her arms, tucking them beneath her chest, and faced Ava. "Don't tell me you still love him?"
Ava swallowed a lump in her throat.
Quincy facepalmed. "Jesus—"
Ava sighed. "Quincy, it's just that—"
"What Ava? He's your first date, first kiss— first in everything?" Quincy interrupted. Telling what Ava might possibly say.
The two nurses arrived at the locker room. They changed outfits and took their handbags.
Ava lowered her head. "Y-You're right," she softly said that almost coming out as a whisper.
Quincy clicked her tongue. "It's not a valid excuse to stay with a cheating man."
Ava carefully looked at Quincy. Afraid that she'll see her friend's disappointed face. "Doesn't he deserve a second chance?"
Quincy scoffed. "Second chance for what? To fool you again?"
Ava gently shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe he would change?" she sounded unsure, but the determination is there.
"Here we go again, Mother Teresa," Quincy rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Ava scratches her head. "I still love him."
Quincy yawned. Bored. "Is that a confession? Because I don't want to hear it."
Ava stared at her friend's face. "Quincy!"
The corners of their lips curved into a smile.
The two ladies laughed. And left the hospital.
Ava has her own car. Instead of staying at their house where he'd see Zach again, she opted to rent a single-unit apartment.
A week passed. Ava and Zach were crossing paths in the hallway of the hospital. Whenever their gaze met, she would run away.
Ava enters the last room of her rounds for the day.
The man was still sleeping. Unconscious since the day he arrived in the hospital.
She sat on the couch. Staring at the man.
Ava said to herself. It's been a week. No one was searching for him.
Ava stood beside the man.
She found solace in the room with the injured man.
Ava caressed the man's face. Her soul almost left her body when the man opened his eyes.
Ava gasps in shock.
The man spoke. "W-Water."
Ava's brain cells processed the event. She snapped her head and gave the man a glass of water.
Ava said in tense. "I-I'll call the nurse!"
The man stopped drinking the water. "Aren't you one?"
Ava fell silent. She was frantic and embarrassed. The man's silhouette black eye stared at him as if searching through the depths of her soul.
Her cheeks flushed.
Ava flashed a sheepish smile. "S-Sorry"
Ava proceeds to check the vital signs of the man.
She removed her stethoscope.
"How are you feeling?" Ava asked.
The man heaved a sigh. "Tired and confused."
Ava pursed her lips.
She nodded her head. "Do you know where you are?"
The man guessed. "Is this the hospice?" and let out a sardonic laugh.
Ava smiled placidly. "You're in the hospital," she said.
The man's lips parted. "Oh."
The man was looking around. His face was saddened when he found no one. Somehow, his brain tells him that someone should be here, watching over him.
Ava noticed the man's action.
Ava scratched her nape. "Um… we couldn't find any emergency contact of yours. Because we couldn't locate your phone—
The man butted in. "Why am I here again?"
Confusion was painted all over his face.
Ava raises a brow in confusion.
Her brows crossed. "Excuse me?"
The man looks at his body. "I look like a mummy. And why is my leg hanging in the air?"
"You didn't remember anything?" Ava asked.
The man weakly shook his head. "I-I… I don't."
Ava stared at the man. "You're in a tremendous car accident," she informed.
The man's forehead creases in bewilderment. "Did I own a car?"
He sounded unsure.
Ava bobbed her head. "A Tesla to be exact."
The man gasps and chuckles. "Wow… that's interesting!" he couldn't believe it.
Ava tried asking him a simple question. "What's your name?"
The man thought for a few moments. "My name is Luca."
Ava was surprised. "Luca?"
The man nodded. "Luca," he smiled.
But it fades too soon. "I-I don't know what's next."
Ava nodded her head. She was about to write Luca in the patient's record but she stopped. "Are you sure your name is Luca?"
Luca nodded his head. "Y-Yes. B-But I couldn't remember my background."
Ava concludes that Luca suffers a temporary amnesia from the injuries.
Ava nods her head. "Okay, Luca. I will monitor you from time to time and help you get back to your feet again."
Luca scratched his head. "Am I paralyzed?"
Ava shook her head. "You're not. But the impact of your accident could have killed you."
Luca facepalmed. "Oh, shit."
"You don't need to stress much about the past. The important thing is that you are safe now," Ava beamed a reassuring smile.
Luca removes his palms from his face. Stares at Ava and flashed a winsome smile. "Thank you, but what is your name?"
Ava offers her hand to Luca.
"I'm Nurse Ava."
They shake hands.
"Nice to meet you, Nurse Ava," said Luca.
As Ava reassured Luca's health and comfortability, she bid goodbye to him and prepares to go home.
When Ava arrived at her apartment. She remained in the car.
Loneliness creeps inside her.
It was then she decided to go home to his fiancé.
Ava could feel the excitement rushing through her veins. She's smiling from ear to ear. And ready to give Zach a second chance.
Ava parks her car and descended.
She saw Zach's car.
She stood at the front door, knocking as she called Zach.
"Zach? Zach?"
A line etched on her forehead. Luckily, she has a spare key. She thought that Zach may be asleep.
Ava unlocks the door and enters the house.
"W-What the hell?" her heart clenched.
Her eyes got warm as she saw a thong and bra scattered outside their bedroom. It wasn't hers.
She soon then heard soft moans. And the scent of cums and sweat wafted in the air.
Ava: slowly opens the door of their bedroom.
Her knees weakened. She almost fell on the floor but she forced herself to stand still.
Zach and the intern was caught in the bed, doing sex.
Zach felt eyes staring at him
He gasped. "A-Ava!
The intern looks at her in fright.
