- IsekAI subroutine Cognitionis
The questions bubbling up in Lilith's mind at the text seemed to have no end. Thankfully she could recall the entire text to her mind the moment she thought about it. She would be able to analyse it later. More concerning however was whether Lilith was alive.
Lilith's consciousness was fully awake during the long stream of text that flowed across her vision. She had a great many questions about all the things it told her. What was it? Who was cognitionis? What was a vampire? What was a status screen?
Most pressing being was she alive? Lilith could now feel her body again. Yet it was strange. Something was missing. There was usually a constant hum in her ears, a constant jump in her body ever few seconds yet Lilith didn't feel that.
Several things about her body felt odd. It wasn't just her body either. She had so many questions but when she tried sending the questions at this system or at cognitionis, she received no answer. It annoyed her quite a bit, or it would have normally. Yet for some reason she felt the anger was muted. That was… Strange.
She could still feel the anger but it was mild. There was no sensation of wanting to lash out no need to move her body at all. Her thoughts focussed around this machine thinking about ways to harm it yet her body was not on the same page. It seemed to have no indication it wanted to move at all. That wasn't right.
Lilith attempted to understand this sensation. Her body didn't feel cold or warm. The desperation from her body to survive her current predicament was also gone. She didn't feel the rush or increased speed of her body. Her mind was still thinking about whether she was alive yet her body... Lilith decided to confirm her senses. Perhaps that would help her understand.
First was touch. She could feel a hard floor beneath her. Except she also couldn't. It was as if there was a soft blanket between her and the floor. Except she didn't feel the fibres of a carpet or blanket. She felt an odd tingling sensation wherever she came into contact with the floor.
Sensations were scarce but still familiar across her back. As though the floor only affected some concentrated areas of her back. She could feel that tingling sensation all across it. The floor seemed to be a footnote to that sensation.
The next sense she checked was taste. Something that wasn't particularly helpful. Though, she did notice that her spit tasted slightly different than usual. Her mouth felt like she constantly had a banana milk in it. She had only had it once, as she had someone smuggle some in from Lisaran so she could learn about their customs.
Yet her spit now tasted exactly the same as that banana milk and having that constantly in her mouth was certainly strange. Lilith enjoyed sugary drinks yet her body wasn't greedily gulping down her saliva despite her mind thinking of the idea. The disconnect between her mind and body was growing.
Lilith felt like she was driving a carriage. She had a good idea of how to move it and she understood all of it's parts but they weren't hers. They were simply what she used to get around. She was stuck inside in a small little container and controlling everything through a long and complicated set of reigns.
When Lilith focussed on her hearing her mind slowed to a halt. So may things came into her mind at once that Lilith thought she'd have difficulty processing it. Every noise should've blended together. No one louder than the other and no way of differentiated between them.
Yet Lilith found herself instinctually knowing how to separate the noises. She still couldn't recognise all of them. Constant thumping in various rhythms seemed to be all around her. Lilith recognised hoof-beats, crumbling rubble, frantic footsteps yet she couldn't recognise who's they were. She at least knew where they were coming from.
Lilith's mind instinctively identified the sounds as coming from somewhere that felt like several palace lengths away from her. Lilith had gone through too many changes in the last few moments. This didn't surprise her any more. She decided to try and recall the status as she focussed on the sounds immediately surrounding her.
Reading through the status again, Lilith summarised the key points in her mind. She had been caught in some sort of world-wide event. An 'update' or 'patch'. Whomever had perpetrated this had chosen Lilith as a 'faction leader' for 'vampires.'. These were all key terms and Lilith noted them down.
Lilith decided to boil it down to the simple details given what her hearing had just picked up around her. Lilith ran through those details as she sat up. She was a 'Progenitor vampire' and had a very interesting trait called 'immortal'. Lilith expected her heart to jump at the idea yet she didn't feel that sensation.
Her mind was abuzz with activity but once again her body did not follow. She focussed on the word. 'Immortal'. Had these people achieved what she attempted and simply given it to her? Lilith would never complain about this but it was suspicious. The happiness made her want to dismiss it. Yet she remembered her recent problem with Wyatt.
'Is this the same?' Lilith asked herself. She misjudged Wyatt but in this case she didn't know any information. There was nothing to misjudge. Deciding to put that on hold for the moment other thoughts entered her mind.
Existence tier, alignments, authorities even future updates could all be pushed to the side for the moment. Right now Lilith focussed on the basics. Her undead traits or perhaps just the fact that she was an undead. It's name was appropriate for her situation and judging by her body's reaction it was more appropriate than she realised.
If Lilith's hypothesis was correct, she wasn't actually alive. The missing beating. The one she could hear from everyone except her. Lilith was fairly certain that was the heart. If her heart wasn't beating she would most certainly be dead. Except she wasn't. Undead was fitting.
It gave her complete night vision, something to do with stamina and a few other bonuses that she didn't need to worry about yet. Speaking of vision, Lilith almost forgot to open her eyes. She rarely used them so-
Lilith stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes opened and in front of her she saw a reflection in the window. She SAW a reflection. That was impossible.
The girl staring back at Lilith was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. It wasn't hard but Lilith still marvelled. Pure red sclera stared back at Lilith with elongated pupils and a slight glow Lilith didn't miss. They didn't just seem to shine, they actually were shining. It lit the surroundings of the girl's eyes a deep shade of red.
Her skin was pale as though drained of blood and looked smooth as a newborn. Lilith looked for every bump, every pore yet she couldn't find fault. Her expression was blank, her eyes unfocussed like a corpse despite their glow. Her eyes were the only part of her that glowed. Yet Lilith felt as though the entirety of the girl's body was glowing.
Her pure white hair seemed to reflect the lights beaming down from above her. It shimmered and waved yet Lilith felt it closer resembled blood and ash. Red streaks ran through the lockes of white as though staining it's purity. Like rivers of blood in a world of ash. Lilith looked to each individual strand with wonder.
She could've spent the entire day staring at the girl's face and hair but Lilith knew she was on a timer. Thankfully she piloted her body rather than moving it. She didn't have to drag her eyes away. Every little detail she could see was exciting to her and she kept spotting new ones.
Looking down, the girl's body looked frail and dainty. She was thin as a rapier, all the meat and moisture on her bones having already left. She could've been mistaken for a child despite her blank yet mature expression. Her ribs didn't jut out nor did her clothes look baggy yet she felt small and fleeting.
Her clothing was a black frilly dress that went all the way down to her heels. It's most striking feature being the whole in it's centre. The surrounding area was stained with red yet not a speck landed on the girl's smooth, pale skin exposed by the tear. If she wasn't sure the red was blood, Lilith would've thought the tear a fashion choice.
The back of her head seemed to contain some sort of veil or headdress that had been flipped back for some reason. Behind the veil folded back over her head, you could spot the sign of a full moon displayed on her forehead. It seemed to blend naturally with her pale skin. The moon almost seemed as though it were a part of the girl rather than an accessory.
The girl's nails were long and naturally black. They looked sharp and deadly rather than fashionable. One slice of her nails could likely slice someone's throat or removed a limb or two. Her blank expression convinced you she would do it.
As the girl looked into her own reflection she smiled. It revealed a set of fangs extending out of her mouth looking like needles ready to tear into flesh. Pure white and glistening with ghostly white malice. A predator was born and she was going to enjoy herself.
