Chapter Six

Breaking rules

"I can't believe this! You're telling meI didn't make the debut but Adrian did?" Myles asked. It was unbelievable. He was fuming mad.

"Yes. You don't have to get worked up Myles, that is how the entertainment industry is." His trainer, Mason said.

"I should not get worked up? I've been a trainee here for a whole year and that brat just got here a month ago, and he made his debut already? He is most worst trainee in this agency and he made his debut before anyone else? Oh..Because he's from an influential family?" He arched a brow.

Seeing that Mason didn't say anything, he scoffed angrily. "I get it now." He said and walked out.

"Myles! Myles!" Mason called but Myles didn't stop.

He stood there, and held the railings tightly as if he was going to crush it. He kept sighing and talking to himself, trying to calm down.

"Calm down Myles...calm down." He cooed. He didn't need anyone to tell him what he could do at that moment. Myles Miller had a very worse temper, which comes up whenever anything he hated reached its extreme.

He suddenly yelled out into the cool and fresh air of the night, with his voice trailing off quickly.

"Life is so unfair!" He yelled again. Doing that would make him feel better, since gripping something wasn't working.

"Do I have to be from a rich background before I make a debut?" He shouted again.

After a while, he heard a young and angelic voice say, "You don't have to."

Myles' temper actually cooled down the moment he heard that voice, which he concluded to be a girl's.

He looked back to see who it was, but he couldn't see her clearly because it was late in the night. He could still catch some of her features anyways.

"Who are you?" He asked, facing her fully and staring with his bloodshot eyes .

"I'm new here." She replied simply. 'She must be a rookie also.' Myles thought.

"Why are you here? This is my spot." He said.

"Sorry, I didn't know about that. You don't mind sharing the spot with me right?" She said, laughing gently. Her laugh touched Myles' heart and it skipped a bit. 'She must be the happy type...she looks like it.',Myles thought.

"We'll see to that.." He said and turned away from her.

There was a round of silence, before the girl broke it.

"You know...life is actually fair. But the people we happen to meet and see are the unfair ones. We all meet those people every time, both the averages and the elites. And to your question, you don't have to be from a wealthy family before making it big as an actor. Everyone who worked hard for their wealth all started from the scratch... including the richest man in the world.

It's okay to get mad..it's also part of the journey but giving up is not an option...even if it takes five years to make the debut. Just keep trying your best and your efforts will yield greatly one day."

Myles was soothed by those words...he should've thanked her right away but curiosity got the best out of him. He wanted to see her face and hear her name badly.

"What's your name?" He asked.

She panicked inwardly for a while. She had expected 'a thank you'

"I'm....Lia." She lied. It sounded nice.

He was about to talk again when she announced that she had to go.

"Wait a min--" He tried stopping her but steps were too fast.

As soon as she left, Myles noticed a shiny object on the floor. He picked it up and realized it was a necklace, with a pendant lettered 'L'

"This wasn't here when I came. It belongs to her right?"

***

It was time to clean master Logan's study and Maddie suddenly felt down about it. She just hoped he wasn't in there.

Thankfully, there was no one when she got into the study so she started cleaning.

'I don't know why I have to clean this place, it's as spotless as fuck! Not even a speck of dust.'

*That's what you get paid for dummy.* Her inner mind reminded.

"Yeah..." She drawled and started vacuum-cleaning the whole place. Dusting of shelves came after.

"Gosh...the shelves were so huge and many. I didn't get to see them the last time I entered the study because of MASTER LOGAN..." She thought aloud in awe, stressing the two last words.

There was a shelve full of elementary school books, high school books and lots of textbooks used in the universities.

'So..he was home schooled...cool.' She thought.

She had to grab and stool to stand on, in order for her hands to reach the top. Master Logan was definitely going to bury her alive if she ignored the shelves' tops.

As she was cleaning, she noticed a particular and familiar book out of the hundreds of books that was on the shelve she was cleaning.

Her eyes sparkled as soon as she set eyes on it. 'HOW TO BECOME AN ACCOMPLISHED BUSINESSPERSON'

She once went through the book swiftly and discreetly in that Jerk, Hudson's office.

She had been trying to get a hard copy of the book but it was so rare to get so she gave up. And now she saw it again? Maybe she and the book was fated. She thought foolishly.

She stretched her hand to right side, at the end of the shelve, to take out the book but eager Maddie forgot she was standing on a stool.

She lost balance and fell to the cold, tiled floor at a full force. She landed her butt roughly.

"Argh..." She let out a cry and squeezed her face as she tried getting back on her feet.

Ignoring her attention-needy butt and her half done work, she started flipping through the pages of the old looking book.

A loving and satisfactory smile appeared on her face as she continued flipping. Ugh...if she were to read it now, there was no capital to set up a business. 'My life is such a mess!!!" She yelled to herself, defying the rule that her master hated noise.

"Too many rules..." She grumbled with blazing eyes.

Suddenly the lights went off.

"What's going on?" She asked herself, not getting the reason behind the sudden black out.

She suddenly felt a wave of air. It was very strong and... she perceived a familiar Cologne. She gasped. It was just like her brain started functioning

Before she could say anything, she heard that dreadful and icy voice.

"What do you think you are doing?" He queried, with evident anger in his voice.

Maddie felt a lump in her throat. What was she supposed to say? Tell him she had been longing to read the book?

She cleared her throat gently. "I...uhm...I..." She stuttered, trying to find the word to use. She suddenly went on her knees. "I'm sorry." She apologized. She obviously scared.

"What are you sorry for?" Logan asked.

"Huh?" Maddie didn't understand him. His words, questions...they were so hard to give answers to.

He grasp the book from her. "You don't have the permission to touch my things, unless you want to get fired." He said harshly and walked to switches to turn on the light, for her to see his burly backside.

Madison was too terrified to admire him at that moment. She felt like she was going to die. Why did he have to be that dreadly? Huh!

Her legs were even too weak, she couldn't stand on time and resume her work. Granny wasn't there too.

...

As she did the dishes, the expression on her face was that of anger. She was enraged, and so she washed the dishes with so much vehemence. Just like taking out her anger on the untainted dishes.

She kept swearing as she washed them. "Why does he have to be so feared? He is human and I'm also human. Does allergies come with dreading problems like this? Just because I touched his book...a book! He got so riled up about that? Unbelievable. Just one month.. one month and i'm done here!" She ranted wrathfully.

A dish suddenly slipped from her and fell, then broke into pieces.

"Oh my!" She panicked worriedly as she bent down to touched the broken glass carelessly.

She got cut and started bleeding. "Ouch.." She whined. Even though she wasn't worried about her finger, she was more worried about the broken dish. 'That dreadful master will surely kill me for this.' She thought.

*** ASHER's RESIDENCE

"Babe, let's just get married huh?" Stacy suggested. She and Asher had just finished a hot round of sex and were lying tiredly under the blankets.

"Should we? I don't think that's right." Asher said nonchalantly.

"What? You think it's not right? What is not right Asher? Dating is right but marrying is not right? Look, as long as we love each other, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't tie the knot." She said, trying to convince him.

"Still...I'm not--"

"Is it because of Maddie?" Stacy cut in, watching his reaction with keen eyes.

Asher was taken aback for a moment. "Why are you bringing her up? She has nothing to do with this." He replied gently.

"Of course she does. If not, you'd succumb to this idea of getting married." She raised her voice.

"This is disrespectful! We can't have our wedding now. She and I planned to get married but then it got called off, I can't just get married right away." He opposed.

"I'm pregnant." Stacy said. Those two words cooled the room down and the atmosphere suddenly became hot for Asher, even though the air conditioner was on.

"What did you just say?" He questioned, maybe he heard wrong.

"You heard me. I'm carrying your baby." She said again, with a fierce look on. She had probably got upset over the hot-cool argument.

Asher was gobsmacked. 'This is wrong... This is wrong.' He kept repeating in his mind as he got off the bed and took a short and cold shower. Then he dressed up and barged out of the house without saying a word.

***

Maddie was in his room again, standing with lunch on a tray.

"What again?" Logan asked. His voice wasn't as harsh as it was before.

"I...brought your lunch." She replied, with that polite tone. That was what made her angry the most, even though she was angry at him and wanted to vent out her anger on him, she couldn't do so, because....he is MASTER LOGAN.

"I don't eat lunch, stop bringing it." He said grumpily.

"But, lunch is also very important. Eating lunch raises your blood sugar level in the middle of the day, and it gives you the energy you need to focus on the rest of the day." Maddie said. It sounded like she was nagging though.

Logan was obviously astounded 'cause there was silence for a while. 'Is she nagging me right now?' He thought. No one had ever nagged him about skipping lunch.. not even Lady Mariah.

"And so you cooked with your injured hand?" He asked. It was now his time to nag.

"Oh, that's nothing. I can just...wait, how do you....?" Maddie asked surprisingly. 'How did he know i got injured? Don't tell me...he watched me on camera? Wtf!' Maddie panicked innerly.

Logan didn't reply nor satisfy her curiosity. She probably got the answer by then.

"Go to the hospital and get treated, i don't want to eat blood." Logan said.

"I'm fine, it's nothing." Maddie objected. "I'll drop the food." She said and suddenly put on a tiny torch, like the one being used at hospitals.

It was out of blue. Logan was surprised at her action also. His eyebrows drew together. He was going to objurgate her but she talked first.

"It's just for me to drop your meals without inconveniencing you." She said gently and found her way to a stool in the room. It was during that short duration that she realized how spacious the room was. The urge to explore the luxurious room came but that would discomfort her master.

After dropping the tray gently on the stool she found, she made to leave.

"Madison Miller!" Logan called out suddenly and she froze on the spot.

She put off her torch and turned around.

"Call my doctor." He ordered.

"Excuse me? Sorry...you don't need to--"

Logan cut her off. "Do you think I'm calling the doctor for you? Why do you think so?"

Maddie's felt a weigh in her heart. Maybe she went a little bit far...why would she have such thoughts?

...

Madison welcomed Xavier at the doorstep. That was their second meeting. Xavier got to see her more closely than before and he found her really attractive.

'She obviously has no makeup on and yet she looks aesthetic...what a pure beauty!' He admired in his mind, for a short time though.

She ushered him in and up to Logan's room.

"Doctor Xavier is here." She announced before opening the door.

She left as soon as Xavier got in.

"Ugh...do I have to be treated like a stranger in my own cousin's house?" Xavier whined, switching on the lights.

"What is going on? Are you sick?" He asked again. Logan only called him over whenever he was sick or had strange health problems.

"I'm not, she is." Logan replied calmly and they settled on the divans in the room.

"Who?" Xavier asked cluelessly.

"My domestic worker." Logan replied.

"What? You called me here because of your maid?" Xavier asked, getting worked up.

There was no reply for some minutes. "Should I just stop investing in your hospital?"

"No! You don't have to." Xavier said calmly, cooling down.

"Then do your job!" Logan said, raising his voice a little. He was also getting worked up already.

"Why are you getting worked up anyways?" Xavier asked mildly, he couldn't pinpoint why Logan, who had always been calm about everything, suddenly got worked up.

'Right. Why am I getting upset? It's just about my maid...why am I like this?' Logan thought it was awkward for him to be like that too.

...

"What? It's just a little cut, I can just get it covered up with plaster or something." Maddie was yet to agree to the treatment Xavier proposed. It was weird.

"I know...Logan must not stop investing in my hospital or else my father will bury me alive." Xavier whined again.

"Wait, I'm trying get this straight. You mean Master Logan threatened to stop investing in your hospital if you don't treat me? Why?" She shouted.

"Exactly! Why? I don't know. But I have to do this even though it is pretence." Xavier begged. "I'm sure you know we are being watched right now." He whispered.

Right. They were being watched by mysterious Logan. Maddie almost forgot that.

"Fine." She gave in.

***AN HOSPITAL,CHINA

Julia rubbed on her father's hand gently. He was lying in a vegetative state. He has been like that for few months. The CEO of L/N corporations, Mr Samuel Torres, he was.

After the doctor was done with the check up, he turned to her.

"No changes has been noticed in him lately. It might take additional time for him to wake from coma." The doctor, said in Chinese.

Julia wasn't disappointed or flustered at all, she nodded and the doctor bowed before leaving.

"Dad...are you okay? Please be. I want you to recover quickly, wake up and see how sweet my revenge will be."
