"Hmm, I thought we'd be outside…" Cabernet scratched her head.
She and Yamato stood in a hallway just outside the hole that Cabernet punched through the wall of their prison. There were no windows or other indication to show where the outside of the fortress could be.
"We can't afford to go making any more of a racket by busting through more walls. Follow me!" Yamato took Cabernet by the hand and started half dragging her down the corridor.
So far, there haven't been any patrols to catch their little jailbreak, but their luck wasn't going to last forever.
"I hope we don't run into anyone. I'm no good in a fight with these chains on me," Yamato muttered.
"I can fight them! So long as it isn't that guy wearing way too much leather," Cabernet said.
"Yeah, King isn't someone you want to tangle with," Yamato agreed. He wasn't scared of him, but King wouldn't be an easy fight at the best of times. "Which way was it again? Did they redesign this place since I was free last?"
"You don't know where you're going, do you?" Cabernet frowned.
"Better than you!" Yamato shouted.
"Who's that?" a voice came from around a corner up ahead.
Yamato came to a screeching halt and tried to turn around and go the other way, but the last intersection they passed was a fair distance behind them now.
A man in a mask, horned bucket hat, white cape, and green overalls came around the corner with a raised brow. His one visible eye widened in surprise; not because he saw Yamato had apparently escaped, but because a flaming fist slammed into his face in the very next instant.
*swoosh* *crash*
The man known as Page One slammed into and through a nearby wall with great force.
"Let's go!" Cabernet shouted back at Yamato, who was looking at her with a dropped jaw.
"I didn't think you were that strong!" Yamato recovered quickly. Unfortunately, the rubble which had settled had now started to stir once more, so she grabbed Cabernet's hand again and they were off. "Although it was a bit of a cheap shot…"
"Cherry told me that there is no shame in bargain hunting during a fight," Cabernet said.
"That's a strange way to put it, but I suppose it's logical. Villains like these hardly deserve to be treated with respect or honor, in any case," Yamato agreed with the sentiment.
Behind them, Page One stumbled out of the hole in the wall whilst holding his aching head. If he wasn't a zoan fruit user, that punch would have knocked him out cold, of that he was certain. He glanced at the retreating figures darting around a corner at the end of the hallway.
"Was that… Yamato?" Page One mumbled to himself. "I'm not getting paid enough to deal with this."
With that decided, he went off to find someone with more of a vested interest in keeping Kaido's brat in line. "Who was that other one? Her wings looked familiar."
It took some time for Yamato to puzzle out her decade old memories of the castle enough to find an exit. He reasonably assumed that he didn't need to find a door, only a window, thanks to Cabernet's wings. The main problem was that the castle was just too large and labyrinthine. Why his father insisted on this monstrosity of a building for his base of operations in Wano, Yamato will never know.
"There!" Yamato pointed out a balcony opening out into a courtyard.
He felt himself being lifted into the air as Cabernet started to beat her wings. They reached a decent speed by the time they burst forth from the balcony, then angled upwards and away from the oppressive castle.
Shouts of alarm rang out from below with even some guns being fired at them, though none came close to hitting them.
"We're in the final stretch!" Yamato celebrated with a laugh.
He celebrated too soon.
*BEEEAAAM!!!*
A thick laser ripped through the air, narrowly missing one of Cabernet's wings.
"Come back here, you ungrateful runt!" a four legged, long necked dinosaur with a mustache shouted up at them. "If I don't get you, you can be sure that King will!"
Another flash of light inside his mouth made Cabernet rapidly spin out of the way of the next laser.
"I can't believe that fatso is shooting at me!" Yamato huffed.
Cabernet did her best to hasten her flight, and she was certainly quick, but lasers were quite a bit faster than she was. Combined with the evasive maneuvers she was forced to perform and that she couldn't afford to lose durability by turning her flames off for more speed, she was moving significantly slower than she could otherwise.
*BEEEAAAM!!!*
One of the beams managed to clip Cabernet's left wing. That alone wouldn't be such an issue; the problem was that it exploded on contact. The force of it sent her spiral into the ground below, just short of the sea.
The sand was blasted into the air by the force of the impact, but also softened the landing enough that neither Cabernet nor Yamato was seriously hurt by it.
Yamato plucked his head out of the hole it had burrowed into and shook it vigorously, sending sand flying out of his long hair. Cabernet simply flared up, melting the sand until it dripped off of her.
"That guy is annoying," Cabernet bemoaned.
"That's Queen. He isn't as strong as King, but he's much trickier," Yamato said. "Let's hurry before-"
"Before what?" A large, looming figure landed on a big rock blocking their view of the castle. His leather outfit and black wings gave away his identity immediately. "Before I find you?"
"Plan B!" Cabernet shouted.
"What's plan B-?" Yamato barely managed to ask before Cabernet grabbed him and plunged the both of them into the water.
King's eyes widened in shock at the suicidal action. Both were devil fruit users so neither would be able to swim, even if Yamato hadn't been wearing sea stone cuffs. Worse than that, he wouldn't be able to easily retrieve them because of his own devil fruit!
"Damn it!" King blasted off. He needed to scrounge together some Waiters to fish them out before they drowned.
"Where are the brats, King? Don't tell me you lost them?" Queen asked as he raced overhead.
"They're drowning," King spoke blandly, as if commenting on the weather despite his internal panic.
"What?!" Queen shouted, before charging off towards the beach he shot them down over. He was under the mistaken impression that he was the cause of their current predicament, and he didn't fancy trying Kaido's patience with that particular bit of news.
He wouldn't be much good in the water, either, but his cybernetic enhancements did give him an assortment of tools they might help him here.
Meanwhile, back at the beach shortly after King left.
*SPLOOSH!*
A ship suddenly surfaced in the water. Yamato coughed and sputtered on the deck before the ship lurched into motion, sending him rolling about.
Cabernet was performing something like a breaststroke with the enormous wings on either side of her ship form. Unfurling her sails at the same time, she caught a decent tailwind to speed herself up even more.
