" RAHNE!!!!" Ian yelled. His anger began to flow out of him in the form of his red energy which had turned bright red. His veins were pulsing under his skin, and his teeth clenched tight. Risman had shot Rahne, in her knee.
" After all the mutants I've taken from your institute, did you really think I wouldn't kill one more?" Risman asked the group.
Risman was well in his rights to boast and brag. He had delivered a blow to the X-Men that not many before could. He had been involved in two direct attacks on the institute that resulted in the death of nearly fifty students. Not X-Men. Students. Not many before him and Stryker had managed such a thing. Yes, Matthew Risman was a legend in the Purifiers eyes. In Ian's, he was a dead man.
" They drugged her." Laura stated. " Heroin.
" Fortunately for your friend, I am a man of God and decided to show her mercy not deserving of your kind... But I am only human and have my limits. So, surrender now.... Or she begins her eternal suffering in hell tonight." Risman told the mutants.
" Risman, I swear on everything you worship, that if you pull that trigger, no God alive will be able to fix what I do to you." Ian gave the man a clear and taut threat. There was no confusion to be had.
" Maybe so. But you care about this one. Are you really gonna chance it?" Risman asked the mutant brawler.
Ian grunted but didn't back down. Instead, he prepared himself.
" Do as he says, X." Ian told the woman.
" He's lying." Laura replied.
" I don't care! We're not risking Rahne's life on a hunch. Stand down, now." Ian ordered the girl. " You're dead Risman. Do you hear me? Every last one-" Risman slapped Ian in the head with his gun, cutting him off. But Ian barely moved an inch if he did at all.
" Eh, tough one. You have the eyes of a killer, a beast of rage. Not an animal born and bred to kill like Wolverine and the other one. No, you were created out of necessity, to survive. Internally, your mind is wired to kill anything it sees as a threat, isn't it? Mindless and unadulterated anger. Madness. And right now, you're probably thinking of Beating me to death. aren't you?" Risman asked Ian.
" No. I want you to suffer slowly. I want you to watch as I strip the flesh from your bones." Ian told the man.
" He won't kill her." Laura spoke up.
" X, stand down!" Ian looked back at the girl and shouted at her as loudly as he could.
"This is a mistake." Laura argued.
" I don't care!" Ian replied.
" Bind them all." Risman ordered his men.
Risman's purifiers began to move on the Mutants. Logan, Warpath, and Laura were quickly taken to the ground, but the Purifiers found, no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't move Ian's body. It was like he was glued in place. But that wasn't their biggest concern.
As one of the Purifiers began to tie Laura up. He noticed she was holding something in her hands.
" Father Matthew. The girl... She's holding something in her hand." The purifier spoke.
" X don't!" Logan yelled.
Ian looked back at Laura and saw the faintest flicker of a red light in her hand. A moment later it was followed by a clicking sound.
Ian leaped towards Laura and the others, but it was too late for him to stop her. She had already pressed the detonator.
The following explosion was devastating. The resulting tremor shook the planes for miles.
Laura had been buried under a large piece of rubble but had managed to claw and crawl her way to freedom.
Her thoughts were simple, finish the mission. Eliminate Risman, by any means necessary. Which is why she did not even look back to see if her teammates were safe. Instead, she gave chase to Risman without hesitation.
Thankfully for Logan and Warpath, Ian had managed to get himself between the two men and the rubble.
Laura chased Risman, far from the site to a landing pad, where Risman was getting into a helicopter. Laura raised her gun and opened fire on the men in front of her, but by the time she got there, Risman had already taken off.
Laura failed.
It wasn't long after Risman was gone that Ian and the others caught up to Laura. And when they did Ian exploded.
" Where is he? Where is that bastard?!" Ian demanded to know. He grabbed Laura by her shoulders and lifted her up off the ground.
" He got away." Laura replied.
" Which direction, you fucking idiot. Where'd he go?!" Ian asked again.
" I don't know." Laura replied without care or concern.
Ian's face twisted with rage. He threw Laura to side and lashed out with a thunderous wave of energy that rocketed out across the sky, coupled with a roaring scream, even the gods themselves could hear.
Ian looked down at Laura with rage in his eyes. He was huffing heavily.
" You've got a lot to explaining to do. When we get back You better have a good fucking reason for what you did. Now get up." Ian marched off in anger, quickly making his way to the X-Jet waiting to take him and the rest of the team to their new safehouse.
