Chapter 123 - ISSUE #113

Some time has passed since the Hulk's attack and the earth is relatively back to normal. Of course, for those at the Xavier institute, however, their lives will always be anything but normal.

Ian was wandering the institute halls. It was the afternoon, and the team had no scheduled training exercises to see to. Noriko was off with the girls, doing God knows what. And for Ian, that meant that Ian had free time to himself.

Ian eventually found himself stuck inside the institutes garage, where he found Scott working on his car.

" Sup Shades." Ian called out to the man.

Scott slid out from under the car and wiped his face and smirked.

" You're still my student. Shouldn't you be calling me professor or Mr. Summers like the others?" Scott asked with a whimsical smile on his face.

" Nah. You'll always be shades or slim, or scotty, or I don't know I'll come up with something original." Ian told the man. " What are you working on?" Ian gestured to the car and asked.

" Oh this? Huh, you like cars?" Scott asked.

" Well, I like messing tech. And yeah, cars are fun." Ian replied.

" Well then you wanna help me out?" Scott asked.

Ian shrugged and took off his shirt, not wanting to get it dirty.

" Alright, let's get to work." Ian spoke.

" Now, do you actually know what you're doing?" Scott asked.

" Hey look, I helped fix a spaceship, I know how to fix up a car. If it needs any fixing that is. I mean this thing is old as hell, and it still looks brand new." Ian stated. He inspected the inside of the blue charger and marveled at how clean and refurbished the car was. " What is it a 98? 97?"

" Heh, not a bad guess. But it's actually a 69 charger." Scott told the boy.

" Yeah? How'd you get it? You're not that old." Ian asked.

" True, the professor gave it to me for my eighteenth birthday. It was my graduation present." Scott explained from under the car.

" Really?"

" Yeah, it was a surprise. It was a piece of junk." Scott exclaimed. " Rust all over the car, the windows busted out, and no tires. I was completely confused on how the professor found such a piece of junk... And then I remembered where we lived." Scott joked.

" So, you mean to tell me that you fixed this entire car up by yourself? Completely restored it." Ian asked.

" That's right." Scott stated. He had a tinge of pride in his voice.

" Not bad." Ian whistled. He popped the hood of the car and took a look at the engine. Practically everything in the car shined. Like a hood full of crystals.

.......

A few hours later and as the sun began to set, Scott and Ian finally started to clean things up.

" Hey, that was pretty fun Summers." Ian told the man as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

" Yeah, it was nice to not be at each other's throats for once." Scott replied. He wiped his hands with the towel on his waist.

And just as things seemed to be going well, the car suddenly short circuited and electricity exploded from under the hood.

" What the devil?!" Ian yelled. He took one look at Scott who did not seem fazed and sighed.

There was a moment of silence and Ian could feel the tug of a telepathic call. But he could not hear, nor could he tell who it was from. And then finally Scott sighed.

" How are your injuries?" Scott asked

" Josh, managed to heal most of them, but I'd be lying if I said I was back to one hundred percent. Why?" Ian asked.

" Never mind, I'll explain it to you later. Right now, go get dressed and meet me in the Hangar. And don't tell anyone you're leaving. And I mean it. Not a word to Noriko or any of the others, understand me." Scott told the boy. His tone was clear. Something was happening, what it was Ian didn't know. But it was clear to him Scott wanted whatever it was to remain a secret. At least for now.

" Alright, I'll be there in minute." Ian told the man. He ran out of the garage.

On the way to his room, he ran past Julian and a few others walking through the hall, nearly knocking them over.

" HEY WHAT THE HELL MAN?!" Julian yelled after Ian.

But Ian just kept going.

Eventually he got to his room, where Noriko had been waiting for the boy. Ian moved past Noriko, practically bursting into his room like an explosion.

" Hey, Ian. What's going on?" Noriko asked. She was worried about the man's frantic behavior. Noriko watched as Ian quickly went to his closet and stripped down to his boxers.

" Sorry, Nori. I'm in a hurry." Ian replied. He quickly threw his pasts on and slid his suit over the top of his head. He quickly threw on his combat boots and prepared to leave, only to be stopped by Noriko.

" Ia, what's going on? Where are you going?" Noriko asked once again. This time her voice was stern and demanding.

" Look, I don't have time. I promise to tell you later, see ya Nori." Ian told the girl. He quickly moved past her and ran down the hall.

Noriko watched as the boy disappeared in disbelief.

A few moments later and Ian ran into the Hangar where the rest of the team Scott had assembled were gathered.

The team in total consisted of Scott himself, Logan, Kurt, Angel, and Emma Frost.

" Alright, now that we're all here, let's go." Scott spoke up.

The team quickly boarded the jet and sat down.

After a moment, Logan finally spoke up and asked the question on everyone's mind.

" Slim, what the hell's going on?" Logan asked.

Scott turned around in his chair and looked at everyone.

" Xavier says there was a new mutant signature that just popped up in a small town in Alaska." Scott exclaimed.

" What?!"

That was the collective response.

None of them, not a single X-man could believe what Scott had just said to them.

" I thought, there wasn't any more mutants being born?" Ian asked.

" You're right. There wasn't... Until now. And if Xavier found out about the mutant, then you better believe our enemies have as well. Which is why I told you not to tell anyone. As of right now, everything we do, everything we say, is to be said through the telepathic link Emma will create for us. This stays in the dark. We need to move fast and be ready for anything. This may be our chance, our only chance, to bring our race back from the brink of extinction." Scott stated.
