Chapter 92 - ISSUE #87

" Where are we going?" Ian asked Laura as he flew over New York.

" One of my sources in New York. They're hold up in the Statue of Liberty." Laura explained.

Ian heard this and looked at the girl in confusion.

" You mean near the Statue of Liberty?" Ian asked.

" No, these guys have a secret base inside the Statue of Liberty. A small warehouse they use to run their operations, drugs, money, prostitution, and more." Laura told the boy.

" And how do you know all of this?" Ian asked.

Laura looked and just stared at him in silence.

" I get it. I do. You have a history, Logan told me that much. But you gotta learn to trust me, Laura. You gotta tell me what's going on. I can wait until you're ready to tell me everything, but you have to at least tell me who it is that we are going after. I need to know who it is that took, Cessily." Ian told the woman.

Laura looked at Ian, she was silent. It was a fair request. And Laura knew that.

" The people who made me. They have many names. I know them as the Facility, or Weapon X." Laura told the man.

Ian froze in the air; the sudden stop nearly threw Laura from his grasp.

" What did you say?" Ian asked the girl.

" Ian, what's wrong?" Laura asked. Laura felt Ian's grip around her legs get tighter and looked at his face convulse in anger.

Without saying another word, Ian took off again, this time much faster and yelling in anger.

" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"

Laura had to cover her ears to prevent them from being hurt by how loud his scream was.

Ian made a B-line straight to the Statue of Liberty, crashing through the lower levels of the iconic statue, completely ruining the plan Laura had going in.

"What the fuck! Dude what the fuck! Smoke him!" The man \yelled. He was an older white man wearing a yellow shirt with a gold watch, and from appearance seemed to be the leader.

The men in the room opened fire on the two intruders, but their bullets bounced off od Ian's skin without leaving so much as a scratch.

" Which ones do you need?" Ian asked Laura.

" Just the one in the yellow." Laura pointed out their target and Ian nodded.

" Looks like the rest of you got lucky, leave. This is your only chance." Ian told the men. He didn't feel like taking the time to kill each and every single one of them if he didn't have to. He only had one thing on his mind right now.

The men all looked at each other and then to their guns... And then.... They dropped them. The dropped their guns and ran past Ian and Laura.

" Smart move." Ian stated.

" What?! Where ya going?! Get back here and save me you God damn traitors!" The leader yelled.

Laura approached the man, grabbed one of the dropped guns, and then slammed the man up against the wall with the gun pointed right at his head.

" Where are they?" Laura asked the man. " Where is the facility operating out of the east coast?! You have three seconds." Laura explained the man. " One."

" I don't know!" The man replied.

" Two."

" I swear I don't." The man spoke up.

" Three." Laura finished counting down and was about to pull the trigger.

" Cadillac Jones! On the east side! He knows! Please don't kill me, I don't know anything!" The man yelled.

" Did you forget anything?!" Ian asked the man.

" I swear!"

" Are you sure?!"

" I swear to God!"

" SWEAR TO ME!"

" I do! I swear to you!" The man yelled. He was trembling on the ground. His eyes wrought with tears and his blood cold.

" I believe you." Ian told the man. He backed off and Laura raised the gun to his head again. " Wait, X." Ian told the girl.

Laura looked to him in confusion.

" He's nothing. Not worth killing." Ian told the girl. " We have bigger fish to fry."

" He's a criminal." Laura told the man.

" He was a criminal." Ian corrected the girl. " You're done, understand it? You are never going to set foot in the underworld again. Because if you do, I'll come back and break the others." Ian told the man.

" Break what?" The man asked.

Ian slammed his foot down on the man's left leg and shattered it, destroying the bones from his shin down. He then grabbed the man's right arm and broke it.

" AhhhhhH!" The man started tossing and turning on the ground in pain. Ian then reached into the man's pocket and took his phone and dialed the police.

" I better not see you again. This is your second chance. Confess your sins and make up for what you've done. Or I'll be coming back." Ian then grabbed Laura and took off.

As they flew over the city Laura looked to Ian and questioned the man's actions.

" Why did you spare them?" Laura asked.

" Because I want to send a message. And sometimes death isn't the right message to send. Sometimes people need to see the pain that awaits them. There needs to be an understanding. And if they don't understand it, then I'll deal with them." Ian told the girl.

" Ian... What's going on? Why are you so upset?" Laura asked.

" Cessily was taken. Why wouldn't I be upset?" Ian asked the girl.

" That's not what I mean. You were upset before, yes. But when I told you who took her, you changed. You're angry, angrier than I ever thought possible." Laura told the man.

Ian went silent for a moment and then sighed.

" Laura, these people... They took me too." Ian told the girl.

Laura's eyes went wide in shock. She had heard rumors, but she never knew that the people who had made her had gotten their hands on him as well.

" I know what they'll do. The twisted evil things they did to me. The torture. They filled my body with the same things your claws are made of. They are heartless monsters. And now they have their cruel manipulative hands-on Cessily. And I'm terrified on what they are going to do to her. She's too sweet. She's kind. She's smart. And frankly this world doesn't deserve to have someone like her. She's the last person on this planet that deserves to be treated like a science project. And I swear if it's the last thing I do, I will kill each and every single one of those bastards." Ian told the girl.

With those last words, Laura went quiet for the rest of the flight.

Laura and Ian began following up on each and every single one of Laura's sources, but each and every single one of them so far has been a dead end.

" Damn it, Laura. I thought you said this guy would know." Ian spoke.

" There is one more person we can try. He will know." Laura replied.

" Then why didn't we go to him first? Come on." Ian told the woman. He grabbed her by the waist and flew off from the building, despite the people below screaming.

" One more thing, you need to let me handle this one." Laura told the man.

" I've let you handle the last three, Laura." Ian told the woman.

" Yes, but this time, you NEED to let me handle this, my way." Laura spoke. Ian got the implications. He didn't mind it. Maybe going in soft and silent would work out better than loud and aggressive. " Trust me." Laura spoke.

" Okay, I will." Ian told the girl. You know, I will. But you have to know, Laura, that trust is a two-way street." Ian told the girl.

Laura nodded and the two continued walking down the docks.

Once there they entered an old, abandoned building and almost immediately, they were surrounded by armed men.

" Stop right fucking there punk. Hello, there dead boy. The name's Owl. Remember it for the rest of your life. Which should be about three more seconds." The Owl spoke.

Ian looked to Laura, and she shook her head.

" Hello, Owl. I need to speak with you." Laura told the man.

" AHHH! Now that's a face I recognize. Come in! Come in! Sit down. Gentlemen, let them through." The Owl said to his men.

The gun men stepped down and lowered their weapons, and the Owl gestured for Laura and Ian to follow him.

" Sit, sit." Owl spoke. He pulled up two chairs at his desk and then the three sat down.

" What is the occassion?" Owl asked.

" I need help finding someone. The Facility. I need to know where they are." Laura told the man.

" Well now, the Kingpin's favorite assassin coming to me and begging for help. My, how the tables have turned." The Owl spoke.

Ian cast a side eye at Laura, he hadn't known she was an assassin for one of New Yorks deadliest mobster. He knew from Logan that she had a troubled past, but he hadn't expected that.

" This will be much easier if you just give us the information that we need. We're not looking for trouble." Ian told the man.

" Speak to me again, boy and I'll chew your tongue and eyes right out of your head." The Owl said to the man.

" Ian, stop talking." Laura told the man.

Ian looked to Laura and glared at the girl. But he quickly dismissed his anger.

" Now, Owl. Do you have the information we're looking for or not?" Laura asked the man.

" You dare talk to me like that? The respect you showed Fisk, you will show me, you will show it to me, little girl!" The Owl demanded Laura to respect him just as she did Fisk.

" You are only in control of the Kingpin's territory because he left the country. You will remain in power only until he returns or someone kills you. So, no, I will not show you the same respect." Laura told the man.

" You're dead, girl! You and your pretty boyfriend are dead!" The Owl yelled. " Kill them." The Owl ordered his men to shoot both Laura and Ian.

" Now." Laura told Ian. She got behind the man as his body started glowing and a wave of energy cooked the men in the room, burning their bodies until they were pure black and unrecognizable. Ian then grabbed Laura and the Owl and flew straight into the air.

" The first rule of Negotiations: Know who you are dealing with. The Kingpin told me that." Laura told the Owl. " Tell me where the facility is operating out of... Or we'll see if this Owl can fly." Laura spoke. Ian then dropped the man and the Owl started falling back towards the deck from miles above.

Thankfully, right before he hit the ground, Ian caught him and pulled him back into the air.

" Alright, Alright!" The Owl yelled. " They're in Vermont. A desert in Vermont! You can't miss it, the energy required to hold a facility out there would be massive and concentrated." The Owl spoke.

" I can track the energy from there." Ian told Laura.

" We can't be sure though. Where is it, exactly?" Laura asked.

" By the satellites. The giant satellite fields. it's under neath the desert!" The Owl yelled.

" We got." Laura told Ian.

Ian nodded and then turned to the Owl.

" You said you would chew my eyes out? Are you still confident in your ability to do so?" Ian asked.

" No. I'm very sorry man." The Owl exclaimed.

" Laura, do we need him?" Ian asked the girl.

" Not really." Laura replied.

" Good." Ian let the Owl go and then flew away from the pier.

" What happened to sending a message?" Laura asked.

" I sent another one. No one threatens the people I love. He wanted to kill you, so I killed him first. Message sent." Ian stated. "Now, I got something to say. I know it's a sore subject for you, and I really do trust you. But at some point, Laura, we need to talk about what he said back there. The Kingpin's assassin?" Ian asked.

" We need to focus." Laura told the man.

" That's fine. Like I said it doesn't need to be now. But if there's anything important, I need to know before we get there, I need to know it now." Ian told the girl.

" Nothing, important to the mission." Laura replied.

" Okay, then. Let's go." Ian spoke.
