With the Children of the vault knocking on their doors, Scott had rogue assemble a team that consisted of Iceman, Cannonball, Cable, Sabertooth, Mystique, Lady mastermind, and Karima, to confront the children. But in their initial attack they were captured by the children of the vault.
" Oh, Shit! Do you guys see what's outside?" Juliana sked.
" That's one big ship." Santo exclaimed.
The Children of the vault had positioned their flying ship right above the mansion.
" What are we going to do?" Cessily asked.
Noriko took one look at the flying machine and just shook her head. She was the leader of the team, so that meant that she would be the one to decide what they would do. But in the moment, even she didn't know what the best course of action was.
" I don't know." Noriko told the girl.
" What do you mean you don't know?" Julian asked. " You're supposed to be the leader of this team, so why don't you act like it. Let's get out there and help the others." Julian told the woman.
" No, Julian. We can't go out there. This is above us. We need to let Cyclops and the others handle this." David spoke up. When the attack on the bus happened, that resulted in the deaths of forty-two students, Scott changed his mind and had David stay at the institute for his safety.
" Above us? I bet we could kick those guy's asses with ease. You're just being a chicken, Alyene." Julian told the boy.
" No, he's being smart. This isn't our fight. The others told us to stay out of this." Laura told the boy.
" Really, Laura? You just don't want to leave your boyfriend's side. If you're still so worried about him, then why don't you go back downstairs?" Julian asked the girl.
Laura grunted and walked away.
" Laura come back, we need to stay together. You know that, Julian." Noriko told the boy.
" Wait speaking of staying together, where's blindfold?" Megan asked.
The group looked around for the small, blindfolded girl, but she was nowhere to be seen. During the argument she had managed to slip away from the others without them having noticed.
The girl made her way down to the sub-labs where the medical wing was located and there she stood over Ian's bedside.
" Savable, yes? She says so, much. Sees so much. Pain, yes? Much pain had, more to come. She feels sad. What was once happy and good, now sad and full of pain. She sees it though. You have more to come, more to do, more lives to save. She knows what she must do, yes?" Ruth, the young girl who goes by Blindfold, spoke mysteriously as she loomed over Ian's bed. She leaned down and place a small kiss on the side of the man's face and crumpled her nose as if she was crying. " She will put back what is destroyed. Yes?" Ruth placed her hands on the sides of Ian's head and entered his mind scape to help try and put things back together.
The moment Ruth stepped foot inside Ian's mind she was immediately assaulted by the depths of Ian's mind. She was a telepath, but nowhere near as strong as Lady mastermind or Emma frost. and never had she actually been inside a person's mind like this voluntarily. She still had much to learn.
Ruth found it hard to move through the mind scape. Her breathing was hard and raspy. And her sight was boggled by all the lingering energy from the M'Kraan Crystal.
" Much damage done, Yes? Hard to stay focused. She must get it done." Ruth started floating through the landscape, searching and sifting through the rubble for Ian's mind self. After what felt like an eternity, Ruth began to feel like it was pointless and that maybe his mind had finally destroyed itself, when finally, she noticed the boy sitting down on a bed with rails, reminiscent of the one he used to have to use. He appeared younger and was crying.
Ruth floated down towards the boy and grabbed his shoulder.
Ian looked up at the girl.
" Who are you?" Ian asked in a young voice.
" She says her name is Ruth, yes? She has come to help you." Ruth told the boy.
" Ruth?" Ian asked.
Ruth smiled and shook her head yes for the boy.
" Do you know who I am?" Ian asked.
" She say yes. She does know who you are. Yes? Yes, she is a friend." Ruth spoke.
" You're my friend?" Ian asked. He wiped his eyes and sniffled hard.
" Yes, She is." Ruth replied.
" Then do... do you know who I am?" Ian asked.
" Yes, She does." Ruth replied. " You are a friend in need of help. And she is here to help you. If you want it." Ruth told the boy. She held out her hand and Ian took it, albeit hesitantly. " Do you know where your memories are?" Ruth asked.
" They're everywhere." Ian stated. " And nowhere. Forever out of my reach." Ian told the woman.
" Yes? She says, let's fix that. Shall we?" Ruth guided Ian into the air and the ground below them gave way. " We have much to do."
Ruth spent what felt like hours inside of Ian's mind, helping the boy piece back together his memoires, wading through each and every section of his mind until they were brought back together. His nightmares and dreams, the women's he's loved and the people he's hated. His hobbies and likes and his dislikes. His favorite foods, and least favorite foods. All of it. And the more they fixed the more Ian aged.
In the physical world time had only passed for maybe thirty minutes and things weren't looking too good for the X-men. The Children of the Vault were winning.
Ruth sat at Ian's bedside. Her palms still on his head, but her body shaking. Weakened from exerting herself so much. But finally, her hard work paid off.
Ruth took a deep breath and with one-word commanded Ian back to reality.
" WAKE!" Ruth commanded.
Ian's eyes snapped open, and energy began flowing out of his eyes. Ian looked over at the woman beside his bed and smiled.
He sat up from the bed his clothing wet from the amount of sweat coming off of his body. He reached his hand up to Ruth's face and wiped the blood coming down from her mouth and nose.
" I remember you. Ruth Aldine, Blindfold. You saved me, Ruth." Ian spoke.
" Yes, She says she did. She is happy to see you are okay again." Ruth told the boy.
Ian returned the favor by planting a small kiss to the side of the girl's cheek.
" Thank you, Ruth. I owe you a lot. But first, I need to go and deal with something. I'll be right back." Ian exploded from his bed, flying straight through the basement ceiling.
Outside Scott and the others were trying their best to push back the Children of the Vault's ship, but they were failing.
" Damn it. We can't touch them while that shield is up. And Rogue and the others have failed. I'm all for ideas right now Slim." Logan told the man.
" I'm beat, Logan. I... I don't know what to do." Scott told the man honestly.
Logan looked to Scott and the severity of the situation sank in. He wouldn't admit, but Logan respected Scott's leadership and optimism. If he was defeated, needless to say things were grim.
" You mutants, have made a mess of things. I would be lying if I said I didn't wish things worked out differently. Had everything gone to plan, we would have arrived far after you and the humans were wiped out. But now that we're here, we have no choice but to deal with you ourselves. Go now into the afterlife knowing the rightful inheritors of the earth have come to save you from yourselves." Sangre, the leader of the children of the vault said to the mutants below. He prepared to fire the weapons from his ship. But as he did, there was an explosion from the mansion and in a moment all of the rockets were destroyed.
" What the hell is going on?" Ian asked as he rose from the smoke.
" Heh! Look at you kid, back from the dead? What took ya so long?" Logan asked.
" I needed a little help is all." Ian replied.
" Ian, you need to be resting. You just woke up from a coma." Scott told the boy.
" That bitch messed with my head.... So, she's gonna die." Ian told the man.
Scott was honestly impressed by the energy flowing around Ian, just one look at it and Scott knew it was the same as Vulcan's.
" Die? You can't reach us through our force field. How are you going to kill us?" Sangre asked the boy.
" Force-field? You mean the one made of energy?" Ian asked with a smirk on his face. With just one flick of his wrist, the ship's force-field dropped, and the one's sentinels could finally get through, along with the other X-men who were still trying to reach the ship.
Sangre looked at the scene before him in shock. He and his brothers and sisters were mere moments from victory and now with just a flick of his wrist this boy took it away.
" How? How did you do that?!" Sangre asked. " Do you know who we are?! How dare you!" Sangre yelled.
" Sorry, I don't give a fuck." Ian stated. " I've always wanted to try this." Ian stated. He brought his two hands together and pulled them back, a small ball of energy began forming between his two hands. The ball was growing bigger and bigger with each passing moment. And finally, when he was certain it was ready, Ian thrusted both hands forward. " HAAAAAA!" A massive wave of energy rushed forward and engulfed Sangre. The man was made of water and believed he could take the hit without problems, but what he didn't account for was that the energy wave also produced heat and could therefore disintegrate him.
" Im-impossible!!!!" Sangre yelled as his body began to disintegrate into nothing.
Ian watched as the energy wave slowly vanished into particles, huffing and gasping for breath. He began to cough hard. His body was still weak. He had just woken up and wasn't fully prepared for the strain that using all of the energy in his body would do to him.
" Aghhh!" Ian groaned, he slowly began falling back towards the ground, but thankfully was caught by Hellions's telekinesis.
" Hey, man. Glad to have you back." Julian told the boy.
" Glad to be back." Ian replied. He gave the boy a smile and then passed back out once again. Leaving the X-men to clean up the remaining Children of the Vault with ease.
