The Next Night.
" Are ye, feeling, okay?" Rahne asked.
" Yeah, I'm feeling fine, love. Like I told ye, I feel better than ever. I'm a whole lot lighter and faster. Blessing in disguise maybe. Though I will miss having an indestructible skeleton to keep my organs safe. Hank says he wants to take an x-ray later. But other than that, like I said, just peachy." Ian explained to the woman.
" Well, I'm glad yuir okay, but ye should try and avoid going outside for a while. Dani, Xi'an and I are looking into this whole ghost thing and Scott and Emma are too. So, just leave it to us." Rahne told the man.
" Oh, that's fine. I have no need or want to get involved with ghost hunting; I'll leave that to the New Mutants. Sofia and Laurie seem dead set on figuring out this whole ghost deal." Ian replied.
" Well, I'm sure Dani will handle that. You just do as I told ye and stay out of trouble, okay?" Rahne said once again.
" You don't have to worry, love. I'm not gonna get involved unless I absolutely have too." Ian told the woman once more.
" Alright. I'll speak with ye later okay, I need tae go see Dani and Xi'an. I'll see ye tomorrow." Rahne told the man.
" Bye babe, I love you." Ian told the woman; he leaned over and kissed her on the lips softly before she got up. Ian gave a playful smack on the ass and watched as she sauntered out of the room, swaying her hips back forth.
Rahne looked back at Ian and smirked before walking out of his room.
" God, I love that woman." Ian exclaimed. Ian got up from his bed and went to go the restroom when suddenly he heard a knock at his door. " Oh, damn." Ian cursed. He walked up to the door and opened it to see Julian standing there in front of him. " Hey, what's up man? Do you need something?" Ian asked the boy,
" Hey what's up, uh yeah. I think the New Mutants are about to get themselves into trouble and Mr. Summers pretty much told me to make sure they stay safe, will you come with me to watch them?" Julian asked.
" What? Oh, dude, why now. Why are they always the ones looking for God damn trouble?" Ian cursed. " Ughhh! Fine man, give me a few minutes to using the rest room. I'll meet you downstairs." Ian told the boy.
" Alright, thanks man." Julian replied, he turned and quickly ran down the stairs.
Ian sighed again and closed his door.
" Damn, New Mutants always getting themselves into something. And that's coming from a guy who get into trouble just by breathing." Ian complained. He walked into the bathroom and relieved himself. He then quickly threw on a pair of jeans and a jacket and walked out of his room to join Julian. " All right, man. Let's go." Ian told Julian as he Descended down the stairs.
" Alright, let's go." Julian replied.
He and Ian both walked out of the mansions front doors together and traveled along the back path to the back of the school.
" Okay, where are these fools at now?" Ian asked.
" I heard them say something about going to look for dead students earlier, so maybe they went to the school's graveyards." Julian replied.
" All right, so let's just go there and wait for them to do something crazy then." Ian stated.
" That sounds like a good idea." Julian replied.
With their plan in mind, Ian and Julian both started walking towards the graveyard, taking the long route along the side of the lake to get there when suddenly they heard a loud scream above them.
" Don't worry, Kim. I got you." Jay told the little girl as he caught her in the air.
" Thanks, Jay. Wish I had wings." Kim replied.
" Sofia forget about me, catch Nori! Water and electricity don't mix!" David shouted to Sofia she tried to catch Noriko who was plummeting towards the lake faster than anyone else.
Seeing this, Ian leapt into the air and caught Noriko on the way down.
" Now, tell me you don't love us right now." Ian asked the girl.
" Ian, thank you, now get me down. PLEASE!" Noriko shouted.
" Right." Ian replied.
Ian caught Noriko and fell towards the ground with her, while Julian caught David with his telekinesis.
" Admit it. Times like this... You wish you had telekinesis instead of some mutant brain." Julian said to the boy. He placed him on the ground and David looked up at him in surprise.
" What are you two, doing here?" Jay asked as he and the others landed.
" Saving, David's butt. And you're welcome by the way." Julian replied. " I don't know what you guys got yourself into, but Mr. Summers seems to think I'm responsible. So, he says it's my job to keep you safe." Julian explained.
" And he just asked me for help. But honestly, it's a good thing I did come, or we'd all be seeing some fried Nori right now." Ian joked.
" Thank you, Julian." Sofia told the boy.
" Look, Sofia... It wasn't my choice." Julian told the girl. " I got tons of friends and after the way you BLEW me off, you're not one of them." Julian told the girl. He used to be sweet on her but after everything that happened with the FBI, she and Julian had been distant.
" So, what exactly happened this time?" Ian asked.
" We saw the ghost in the cemetery. But he sent us away. We need to go back and find him again." David explained.
" That's your plan? Don't you think you're a bit understaffed for this?" Julian asked. Where're the rest of your New Mutants Squad?" Julian asked.
" Josh and Laurie? They're on a date." David replied.
" Oh great, they get tae go on a date, while we wad around in spook town. Isn't that fun?" Ian complained.
" Hey, you don't have to be here man." David told the man.
" Yes, I do. I said I'd help out, so I'm stuck helping out. Besides the sooner we get rid of this ghost the sooner I'll sleep better at night. So, come on. Let's go!" Ian shouted. He and the rest of the students began walking back to the graveyard to search for the ghost once again but found nothing.
" Looks like the ghost is gone for now. We should keep checking the headstones and figure out who he is." Noriko spoke.
" So, how'd you guys end up over a lake anyway?" Julian asked.
" Teleportation." Dani answered as she and Xi'an arrived in the graveyard.
The teens all turned towards the two women and shuddered.
" DANI! You scared us!" Sofia told the woman.
" Not as scared as I was when I went to talk to you guys and none of you were in your rooms." Dani replied unamused. " Xi'an and i figured you might be here. Rahne's going to give the rest of your squad the heads up, but I wanted to tell you that we figured out who we're dealing with. You won't find his grave in the cemetery." Dani explained. " When Magneto attacked the mansion, it was our duty to get the kids out. There was a student named Jeffery Garrett. He came here after his whole family died. They died because he was a mutant." Dani explained. " Cerebra registered his signature but it was hazy, and we could never locate him. We thought he had teleported away."
" We assumed it was because of his teleportation not because he was a ghost." Xi'an stated.
" Not, Jeffery." Ian muttered.
" You know him?" Julian asked.
" Aye, he was a young kid. I remember when that bastard Bishop came here to arrest Garret for murdering his family, when in actuality he couldn't control his powers and what happened had been an accident. I didn't know he died in that attack though. He was a nice kid and definitely deserved better. But how? Even Magneto wouldn't kill a child." Ian asked.
" I don't know. After the school was rebuilt, we never found a body, so we always just assumed he made it out and chose not to return." Dani replied.
" Maybe he did get out. He hates this school, right? So, maybe he's just using his powers to mess with everybody." Julian stated
" I wish that were true, Julian. But I have a.... Connection to death. He's dead. I could tell that in the danger room." Dani replied.
" Then we need to contact him and put his spirit to rest." Sofia exclaimed.
" I can help. I got my mutant power. You saw it. he talks to me." Kim explained.
" He talks to everyone Kim." Noriko told the young girl, disappointing her greatly.
" It's getting close to curfew, guys. However, we're going to handle this, we're going to wait till tomorrow." Dani spoke.
" But."
" End of discussion. Everyone back to the dorms." Dani spoke with no room for argument.
Everyone began moving back towards the school, except for one. Ian, alone remained unmoving, staring out of the side of his eyes towards something.
" Ian, you heard me. It's time to go." Dani spoke.
" Yeah, I heard you. Just checking something." Ian replied. He knew he felt something watching him, but he as soon as that feeling came, it was now gone. And for the night everything was still, nothing but the wind brushing up against the mansion's walls.
