Chapter 67 - Heartbreak

Omolade was tired. Getting drunk the previous night and then walking all day at the office really took its toll on her. She wondered how Emma could drink and party all night and still manage to stay the same the morning after.

She wanted to call Abby to know how she was doing but decided to call later when her secretary brought another file that needed her urgent attention. That's how it's been all morning, there was always something that needed her urgent attention. Being the Chief Financial Officer of a multinational company was very tasking.

She got up from behind her desk and walked towards the window to stretch her stiff limbs.

'Maybe I should just close early today...' She thought to herself when she saw through the window that the sky was heavy with rain, already dreaming about the comfort of her bed. She checked her time and saw it was already past three in the afternoon and decided to leave when it was four in the evening.

She was still looking at the street below through her window when her phone started ringing.

"God, I hope it's not about another urgent work that needs my attention?" She said under her breath before walking to her desk to pick up her phone. Her tired face broke into a smile when she saw who was calling her.

[Hi honey...] He said happily to her fiance

[Hello dear...] You sounded tired, are you okay?

[Yeah... Just tired. I had a little too much to drink last night which is affecting my work ability.

[You drank on work night?...] He asked, sounding surprised. He found it hard to believe since he knew she never tasted alcohol during weekdays because of her work.

[Yeah, I made an exception because it was important to my sister. Kinda like a celebration to her]

[Oh, alright then. How about you come over to my place after work so I could give you a massage?] He asked her suggestively. He said massage but she knew he meant another thing entirely which was far from what she wanted. All she wanted was to get home, shower, eat and go straight to bed.

[Honey, can we take a rain check? I'm tired already. I was actually thinking I would close as early as four so I could go home and rest... What about the weekend?]

[Yeah okay... Weekend is good ] He said but she could sense he was not happy about her decision

[Honey, are you sure?... I'm so sorry. If only I'm not so tired...]

[Then you should by all means rest, I understand. I'll see you on Friday then.]

They talked for some minutes more before they said their goodbyes and ended the call.

Omolade couldn't get the feeling of letting her fiancee down out of her mind so she decided to close by five and surprised him with a visit.

The wind was beginning to pick up when she drove out of the Silver corporation. She loves this kind of windy weather only if she is not caught in it. Especially if she was in bed cuddled up to her fiancee or her huge teddy bear if her fiance wasn't near her. She arrived at his house exactly when it began to drizzle.

"Thank God!" She murmured under her breath as she hurried from where she parked her car into the house. The huge living room was empty when she entered with her key. She was about to call for him when something grabbed her attention.

Two glass cups were left on the coffee table, one had a lipstick stain on it. A purse was on the chair and a pair of high heels were on the floor.

"What's going on here!?" Omolade asked herself stupendously. She suddenly felt cold all over her body. She took her eyes off the items and directed her gaze back to the stairs, trying to see the bedroom from where she was standing as if she had x-rated eyes.

She had an idea of what could be happening up the stairs but she didn't want to believe it.

'Maxwell would never cheat on me, maybe she's helping him with something upstairs? there are so many rooms up there, including his office, maybe they are just working together.'

So many maybe's in her head. She tried as much as possible to convince herself that her fiance would never cheat on her but still didn't know why she removed her heels and slowly made her way up the stairs. Could it be that she found her excuses quite unbelievable herself?

She arrived at the front of his bedroom and took a deep breath before she quietly opened the door and her deepest fear was confirmed. She stood still and watched the scene before her. She couldn't even move if she wanted to because she was in shock.

It hurts to see how he was really enjoying the sex. It hurts to hear how he was grunting and she was moaning as they both romped together. It hurt so much that she felt the ache from each strong pound of her heartbeat.

He wasn't even aware of her entrance. It was the thud sound her bag made when it finally fell from her flaccid fingers that alerted him of her presence.

Now it was his turn to be greatly shocked. Maxwell was so shocked to the extent of being frozen in place. He couldn't even pull his dick out of the girl he was fucking. Looking at her eyes which were brimming with unshed tears, he felt guilty and ashamed of himself.

How would he explain himself out of this? How would he face her family when they've only loved and accepted him, a nobody in their midst without for once looking down on him?

Omolade looked at him with pain in her eyes as her tears finally started falling before she quietly left his apartment... By the time he got his clothes on and went after her, she was nowhere around. He ran up and then down the quiet street, hoping to see her waiting for a cab or something... But nothing.

The rain had now started pouring steadily. He noticed she left her car and bag behind, even her shoes were still lying at the foot of the stairs. 'How would she manage without her phone and no money on her?' He worriedly wondered with guilt, as he rushed back inside to get his car key.

"What the fuck are you still waiting for? That was my fiancee that just caught us together in bed so get your shit and get the hell out of here right now!" He screamed at the girl who was now sitting in bed with her clothes on as if it was all her fault

The rain that was drizzling before was now pouring down in torrents, accompanied by continuous thunders that were so loud it felt like the world was about to end. Omolade neither notices nor pays attention as people rush past her to their various homes or to find temporary shelter from the rain.

She just kept walking aimlessly and crying. She was heartbroken and it hurt so bad...

'But we spoke this afternoon and he said he loves me! How could he do this to me when I've only loved and respected him!? What exactly do men want? Relationship of five years!... I'm thirty-five years old now, where do I start from?' She continually thought and cried.

Akin tried to drive as slowly as he could trying to see through the heavy rain beating on his windshield. He glanced at the message printed on the envelope which simply read...

'Your thoughts no longer align with the black fraternity.

A life for your life.'

Akin's heart sank. Even though he wanted out of the black fraternity and was prepared to do anything humanly possible to get out of the oath his father forced him to take... He never thought they would require him to redeem his life with another person's

He has never killed before, even though he knew it would get to that one day since Olori always asked a member to kill an enemy to prove his loyalty. This killing was not to prove his loyalty but to buy his life back from the Black fraternity

He glanced at the envelope and wondered whose picture was inside. What is the name of the person whose life they required for him to be able to leave the rest of his life in peace?' Akin wondered, staring at the unopened envelope with a heavy heart. He directed his gaze back to the road and instantly stepped hard on the break the second time

''What the fuck is this again!?'' He wondered aloud, cleaning the windshield with his hand to be able to see clearly through it.

His headlight illuminated a lone female figure, walking aimlessly in the middle of the road with shoulders hunched to brace against the impact of the rain.

'Is she crazy!? Why walk in the middle of the road, I could have killed her for goodness sake!? Akin wondered angrily to himself and blared his horn very hard.

But instead of the figure moving to the side of the road, she just stopped for some seconds before she fainted right in front of his car.
