"So, alkarite are humans that are assigned to gods for protection?" Aurora asked in accordance to what Zander had explained to her earlier on.
"Umm hmm" Zander hummed, as he walked further away from the cliff, with his alkarite in his arms.
"That means that humans are protected by the gods?" she asked.
"Well, that is how it's suppose to be, but it's not."
"Why not?"
"Because gods are egoistic, rather than altruistic." he explained.
She understood what he had said enough, so she asked "Do you have other alkarites?"
"No, you are the only one."
"It is the way of it?"
"Not at all, it's abnormal even, for a god to have just one alkarite"
"So, a god can have many alkarites?" she asked just to be sure.
"Absolutely." he answered.
Aurora didn't want to admit it to herself yet, but she is quite pleased that she was his only alkarite"Then why I'm I the only alkarite you have?"
Zander turned to his face to her, his eyes bored into hers. Aurora was always caught off-guard when he looked at her like that. She flushed bright red as heat flooded her cheeks. She bit her lips and looked away. Aurora desperately hoped Zander didn't notice her reactions but highly doubt it. Nothing misses Zander's keen eyes.
"Because you are special", he said earnestly. Aurora's eyes flew back to his.
"Besides" he continued, "I prefer it that way"
They were quiet for a while as Zander strode towards her cottage. Then, Aurora spoke,
"Did you lie about having brothers?" she asked, staring at his perfectly shaped face.
"Do you think I lied?" he asked purposely.
Aurora didn't look away from his face, as it stands now, she knows not what to think any longer. This night has been confusing and unbelievable, and she was still trying to wrap her head around it.
"I don't know." she answered barely in a whisper.
"Of course I didn't." Zander said. He could now see her cottage just a few paces away from them. He knew that he had to let her go, but he felt like he couldn't - as a matter of fact he didn't want to.
He finally let her down, when they arrived in front of the cottage. She removed his long jacket, and handed it to him.
"Thank you, you saved my life. Again" she said.
Zander smiled, "You are welcome." he said sarcastically. He came closer and held her hand.
"Promise me that you will stay out of trouble."
Aurora nodded, "I promise." she said looking up at him, he was so much taller than her. And to the great impaler, his alkarite was the smallest - and the cutest person that he has ever seen. If it was possible for her to always be by his side, than she will always be.
"Are you going to be alright?" Zander asked still holding her hand.
"I'm still trying to make sure that this night is not a dream." she admitted.
"Trust me, it's not a dream." Zander assured.
Aurora was still looking up at him - of course this wasn't a dream, because it felt so real, she could smell his terrific scent, she could hear his deep voice in the silent night - that was enough reason for her to know that this night was not a dream, because he was still with her.
"Good night." Zander said before kissing her forehead.
Aurora froze, Zander literally takes her breath away every time she sees him...and now this - It was just a simple forehead kiss, but it was evoking some deep sensational feelings. She smiled absently and bid him a good night too.
The lord impaler watched his alkarite enter inside the cottage. He knew that he was getting too attached to Aurora. It was like she cast a spell him that has ensnared him.
They are not from the same world, and Zander is a feared war god that has killed many, too many. His soul was damned, and Aurora was just too innocent, without guilt or misdeed.
To Zander, she was just that ray of light that has shone on the darkest parts of his life, and as it stands now he was not ready to let go of that ray of light.
