Chapter 50 - 48. Her Death Card

Lucas walked into the turret, his eyes searching for the war god, but he was not anywhere around. Then a Third Battalion warrior approached him.

"Grim reapers are not welcomed here" he said.

Lucas sighed, "Where is you lord?"

"Busy." he answered.

Lucas gave him a cold stare, "Tell him that I'm here. I have a very urgent news."

The warrior hesitated a little before he walked to the direction of the battlements. The great impaler and some other war deities were having...well, according to the looks of it, the meeting was quite serious.

The warrior walked to his lord, and whispered about the grim reaper's presence in his ears.

"Excuse me, I'll be back shortly." he told the war deities, as he stood on his feet and left.

He met the reaper at the entrance of the turret. "Is something wrong?" Zander asked.

"I'm glad you asked." Lucas said, as he brought a certain red card from his long jacket. "Look at this" he gave it to the great impaler, who took it. Just as he was opening it, Lucas informed "Your alkarite. She's going to die, tonight."

Zander paused for some seconds, processing what the reaper has just said - he just has to be sure that he heard right. He knew that what he was holding in his hand, was a death card. Grim reapers always receive this cards whenever a person is about to die.

He opened it, it read :

"Name of human: Aurora Ashtin.                         Place of death: The Villagers cliff.                    Age of death: Nineteen years.                             Cause of death: Fall from height."

The cloaked man brought his hand closer to her face, "You have such lovely face," he remarked touching her face, "and a lovely face means more money."

Aurora didn't hesitate as she knocked his hand away from her face.

"Don't touch me." she warned, just when she was about to walk away, the man pulled her back.

"I'm sorry, but you can't leave, at least not yet." he informed.

"Let me go!" Aurora struggled to free herself from his hold, but he grip was very strong.

The memory of that traumatic night flashed through her mind - when those dark cloaked people were dragging her and her papa from their house, she tried to free herself from the grip of that scary person that held her, but she couldn't...also this night she was trying to free herself from this cloaked man's grip, and yet she couldn't.

She started crying and sobbing, "Leave me alone" she said barely in a whisper, still pulling her small hands. Without warning the cloaked man let go of her hand, she took a misstep, she gasped and fell off the cliff.

Aurora felt herself go weightless as she tried to catch her breath, but she couldn't. Wind was blasting from below her. Fear, shock and horror paralyzed her entire body - she was going to die...everything became very still, she could see her whole life flashing before her eyes - she was going to die. Slowly her eyes closed. When would she reach the rocky ground, the impact, the pain...

But then, she felt like she was floating, elevating ...

Has she reached the ground? Was she dead? But she couldn't feel any pain. If she wasn't feeling any pain, then why was she crying, her eyes were still closed and she refused to open them.

Zander held her tightly in his arms, his heart pounding wildly. With the blink of an eye, they were back at the cliff.

"Aurora." Zander said softly.

At the sound of that familiar voice, she felt some sort of comfort. Her eyes were still filled with tears, but she opened them. At first she grasped the fabric of his jacket, and buried her face in his chest.
