My home is destroyed, the blood of my friends, family, brothers, sisters and even enemies strewn around me. My head set down onto a rock, and the dark red fading from my scales, the wings of blood slowly dripping to the ground. As my eyes slowly shut the sun begins to rise, a world without my speciesā¦ such a strange feeling. Without the rage to fuel me what am i? I am not a protector, I am not a kingā¦ I am alone in this world. The greatest failure of a ruler is to be left without a kingdom, to shut his eyes on the world and know that he is the last of his peopleā¦ "I'm sorry."
The words tumbled out of my mouth in splutters, my deep raspy voice rolling over the hills, rippling in the blood of my comrades. So as I closed my eyes to sleep, the thin scales sliding over my eyes, I felt a nudge to my side, the smallest nose prodding into my ribs, its fiery body still alive and lush with colour, I stared down at this child, something that could only be described as a miracle. Tears flowed down my cheeks each one burning up before it touched the ground, and a smile cracked across my lips.
