"Katie! when were you going to tell me that you were pregnant? huh? " Jacob walked out of the bathroom with a test that Katie thought she threw out. Apparently not, since he found it.
Katie's face paled and she did not know what to do or say. "Uh.....well..." Before she could even say anything, Jacob's hand went across her face.
Shocked, Katie gasped. She did not expect him to slap her across the face out of anger. Even though, Jacob has been calling her names and screamed at her.....this was the first that he has ever hit her. Tears filled her eyes and her hand automatically went up to her stinging cheek.
"What the hell, Jacob--" Katie could not even finished a sentence before another slap happened.
His eyes were a different color. It was like he was a whole different person. "Why didn't you tell me? Tell me. Now!"
Katie swallowed hard. Her body trembled in fear and she never feared a man before. "Well...I just found out. I was waiting until I went to the doctor and got it confirmed.''
''Was it confirmed?"
Katie nodded. "Yes. 20 weeks today, actually.'' She backed into a corner, trying to put space between the two of them.
There was so much tension in the room that Katie could feel it.
Jacob grunted, taking a glimpse of his watch. "Shoot. I am late for work. You better behave, and get this house in order. If I come home and it's not done. You will be in trouble. Bye."
Then he was off to work. No kiss. No hug. Even though at this moment, he did not deserve any of those things from her. He began showing his true colors, maybe a week ago. Jacob scared her. He scared her to the point that she lied to her co workers and friends, so they don't suspect anything that is going on.
Jacob once said, "if you tell anybody about what goes on in my house, you won't ever see day light again."
With those threatening words, she followed with what he said. If she went to work with bruises, she lies and makes every excuse in the book. But he recently started hitting her, and the lies and excuses began. Katie could not deal with the abuse, especially since she was having a baby.
Katie had to get out.
That I'd when she packed everything that was essential, grabbed her wallet, keys and left.
She got into her car and sped off down the street. The faster that she is out of the city, the better it will be for her.
Tears ran down Katie's rosy cheeks, which still stung by getting slapped twice. That did not bother her, it was the fact that she allowed herself to be with someone so abusive. This was on her for staying for so long, but now she was finally out! finally free.
"Deep breathes, you are okay. Everything will be okay." Katie mumbled, as she drove down the road, with her music up loud and the windows down to allow the wind to flow into her face.
She placed a hand across her growing bump and whispered to it. "Sweet boy...everything is finally going to be okay. You won't ever have to experience the pain that I did. I promise to always protect you, even away from your own father."
Being a single mother would be hard, but this was the path that she wanted. She couldn't be with Jacob, who would possibly hurt their son. How could she live with herself if something did happen? she wouldn't.
This would be a tough road for Katie and her unborn child, but things would be better now since leaving Jacob.
Because what worse could happen?
Would Jacob hire somebody to come look for Katie or would he make a way to come and find her himself?
Katie shook her head, 'would he actually be stupid enough to even drive around searching for me? and I honestly don't think the people he talks too, would have the time to look either. I am a grown woman, afterall. If I want too leave, I can!" She mumbled underneath her breathe and continued to drive. She was driving down a rocky path, that was taking her out of town.
'Come back!' it says on the sign, and this was the start of something. She would finally start over with everything, by getting a new job, and getting a place of her own, so that she can provide for her and the baby.
Things would become better. It may take time, but Katie has faith.
Faith is all that she has got now. What does she have to lose?
