CHAPTER 47
— WHAT HAPPENED, Charles? — John said grimly, understanding the gravity of his friend's presence there.
— Nikola Tesla's design was stolen from our headquarters.
Smith realized the gravity of the situation.
— But how did they get into the headquarters? — That place is impenetrable.
— We're investigating this, but I don't know how to say it, as there's absolutely nothing wrong with the security, it's like a ghost came in, took what he wanted and left without anyone noticing, the alarm itself wasn't sounded by anyone or anyone. — by something out of the ordinary, the attacker himself triggered it, that's all we know.
Bernard realized with an air of terror what that meant, it was a weapon terribly worse than the atomic bomb, it could devastate the United States with two or three shots.
— I'll change and in five minutes we'll be out.
— I'm counting on it, old fellow.
Bernard went into his room and picked up his black suit, gave it a dusting, and began to change.
— What do you think you are doing? — Said his indignant wife.
— I have a business I need to finish.
— If you haven't managed to complete it in nearly sixty years of service, what will you do to finish it now after you're old?—
He kissed her forehead like he always did before he left.
The two said together:
— If I don't come back, know that my life has always been you.
But this was truly the farewell they had always shared for nearly sixty years together.
