Chapter 5 - Shooting and the contraband

"This here is a homo-pervertus, also known as a hentai or a lolicon. It is a lesser form of life, unworthy of the right to live. In order to kill it, you must deliver a bullet into one of its vital points. Its vital points consist of: brain, heart, neck, and lungs. Generally, due to the large size of the target, aiming for the chest area proves to be the most effective."

All eyes pierced right through a caged man who blushed, and squirmed looking back at the lolis. He mumbled something under his breath holding his hands in a manner that someone flattered would. He was far away, but still close enough to make out his body language.

"You, what's your name?" the sergeant asked.

"Uh, I'm Mio," the girl answered timidly.

"Great, you're first." The sergeant pointed her finger to a prepared firing position with a rifle situated on the ground. The girl she had spoken to reluctantly made her way to a shooting spot, laid on her belly and placed her hands on the weapon in preparation to shoot.

"Try to hit him on your first try." Without wasting any second, the sergeant bellowed, "Release the prey!"

The cage doors had opened up on their own, and the man inside lurched forward with open arms. "Imouto-chaaan!~"

Mio's face contorted in disgust, but soon after had been overtaken by an expression of fear.

Her breath was tattered and shallow, as she anxiously pulled the trigger time after time.

"It won't— It won't shoot!"

"Huh?" The sergeant huhed.

"Imoooutoooo-chaaaaaaaan!" He was getting dangerously close. Only a few meters left, he formed his lips into a kissing position and pushed forward to seize his dreams.

Everybody froze in place fearing for what might happen next.

Anya's heart gave a strong beat, and without even noticing she rushed to the sergeant and took the gun from her holster.

BANG

After that, the body dropped down, followed by tens of jaws.

Anya stood in a shooting position still recovering from the shock. She hadn't yet processed the full weight of what she had just done. She looked around. The sergeant scowled at her as if she wanted to tear her apart, but everyone else suddenly began clapping their hands in approval.

"That's 100 push-ups for insubordination. I would've dealt with the situation myself." The sergeant proclaimed.

"I—" Anya wanted to say something but the words got stuck in her throat.

The chatter began to spread among the soldiers. It wasn't hard to guess that they weren't exactly happy with their sergeant's decision.

"But, miss sergeant, Anya just—" Rikka was cut off by the sergeant raising her hand.

The sergeant sighed and turned to Anya.

"Okay, I have to admit. You unlocked the gun within a second and saved your teammate. Moreover," the sergeant looked down at the guy with a hole in the middle of his forehead. "That was a perfect shot. It's quite outstanding for someone who just started out in the military. I'll be sure to mention your act of bravery to our superiors. That said, I haven't ordered you to do it, so the punishment still stands. Also, give me my gun back."

The chatter had stopped, and people seemed to have accepted her judgment. She then grabbed the rifle and aimed at the cage that the lolicon had come out of. She pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Then she locked and unlocked the rifle. That didn't yield the expected results either.

She scratched her head and spoke up again. "Group dismissed. I need to deal with that flop," she started walking away, but she stopped for a second, "and to make sure that whoever is responsible for it regrets it for a very. Long. Time."

As the sergeant left the place the tension receded. Just as Anya was to relax she noticed that the sergeant was back and looking straight at her."

"Anya, and you, the one with black hair. You go with me."

"Twenty six— twenty eight— thirty three—"

"Have you ever been to school?" Misaka asked.

"Um, no. Uh, not really." Anya huffed. "I've only been to kindergarten, But I can count, alright? Thirty six—"

"Hm?" Misaka cocked an eyebrow and faked a surprised look.

"She isn't looking, and my hands are about to fall off!"

The sergeant, indeed, wasn't looking. She had just told Misaka to make sure that Anya completes her punishment, and then went off somewhere else.

"It's okay, it's okay! I understand, don't be mad." Misaka tried to calm her friend down.

"I'm— not— mad!" Anya drawled. "Just tired."

"You just did three push-ups without counting, you know that?"

Anya groaned, but kept doing pushups, this time skipping 5 numbers every time.

Misaka stood up from the trunk she had been sitting on, and she squinted her eyes. "Hey, what's going on there?"

Anya quickly sprung up to check what Misaka meant. Sure enough, there was indeed something wrong. The bush on the other side of the camp moved in a very unnatural – as for a bush – manner.

"Let's investigate that." Anya beckoned for Misaka to follow.

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be doing push-ups?"

"We have found a suspicious activity."

"Suspicious? What do you mean by suspicious?"

"Smuggling of illegal press to the camp area. I believe it's something that you

might want to look into, Miss sergeant." Anya bore a prim, yet proud expression on her face.

Sergeant's eyes were focused, as if she was preparing to jump at some kind of prey to rip it apart and eat its guts. This look made Anya feel a bit afraid, and she lost some of her confidence. However, she had no need to say more, as she had been instructed to lead the way to the perpetrator.

And so, Anya, along with Misaka and the sergeant behind her, made their way to the bush, eliciting a severe curiosity in everyone who looked at them walking through the campus like a boss through his own company. Some of them, including Rikka, even followed cautiously to see what all the fuss was about.

The bush was still there, shaking, but this time it also seemed to giggle a little from time to time.

The sergeant didn't wait, and swiftly spread the branches uncovering a girl reading a manga. She giggled, not realizing she was being observed until a moment later.

"Oh." She anxiously looked up at the sergeant. She was scared. It seemed that she knew what awaits her.

The sergeant took the manga from the girl's hands and she looked at the title. "Jojo's bizarre adventure—" It seemed that for a moment her expression turned to compassion, but she quickly ridden herself of it. "Come with me," she said, devoid of any feelings.

"What is going to happen to her now?" Rikka asked, visibly concerned.

"It's none of our concern, really, but betrayal of the state isn't something taken lightly. Gay literature is especially condemned." Anya explained

"That's terrible…"

"Well, true, but she shouldn't have sinned by reading such heresy in the first place."

At that moment Misaka rummaged around in the bush and she took out something looking like a newspaper and she started reading.

"What do you have there?" Anya asked. She came closer to Misaka to see for herself. The heading on the wallpaper shocked her.

"Troops amassing at the border with Poland."
