Chapter 39 - Lance's decision

Zari made a hand motion making a face at both Shiro and Lance was unsure what just happened as the white space vanished sending Lance back to his room.

"Sorry, hero killer you will go home for now…" She laughed.

Shiro felt sick to his stomach he felt like he had been punched in the gut while simultaneously also being stabbed on his chest. All of a sudden his head started spinning and his ears felt like someone took a hammer to them making his vision blurry.

"Shiro...we have other plans for you." Zari smiled.

Her smile looked so fake but her eyes were so dead Shiro wondered why he bothered to be here. Suddenly everything seemed to fade out and all he could see was white.

"Suri!" Lance yelled.

His eyes shot open immediately when someone shook him he quickly looked around his surroundings he was in his room but something about it felt off and when he heard a soft knock on the door his breath got caught in his throat. He looked up from where he was lying on his bed only a few feet away from the door to see his Dad.

"You went missing from the hospital did you escape?" He asked.

Lance nodded "I didn't wanna stay there!"

He knew that wasn't true he didn't want anyone to know how weak he was but it was all he could think about right now.

"Now you are back on your feet time to destroy!" He demanded.

Lance grabbed his jacket following his father out of their small apartment and into the dark city streets. Once again he followed along quietly trying not to make any sound or attract attention. After nearly an hour of walking he noticed people starting to notice the two strange looking kids walking side by side with them.

Crimson Crow took notice of them as well, he couldn't help but smirk slightly. The two kids had already caused some problems but they never stopped causing trouble.

"Where are we going?" Lance asked.

"To the base to finally retrieve the items..."

He responded before taking one last look around the streets and heading towards their destination. They reached an abandoned warehouse which once used to be a bank. Now it was used to store stolen weapons.

As Crimson Crow opened the doors he turned to Lance "Come inside, this is not safe to be outside in the open...for either of us. If we get caught I'll take the fall but you must follow my orders."

Lance walked past him slowly glancing down at the floor before entering the building. As soon as he saw the place he froze in front of the doorway his mouth falling agape. There had to be thousands of guns lined up waiting to be taken care of. Some of them still hadn't been fired yet. There were a few crates filled with bullets, but no one else had even moved in there. Lance' hands began to shake at the sight of all these rifles and knives.

A crowd of men came inside the building surrounding Crimson Crow and Lance. They all wore masks so Lance couldn't see who they were. Their clothes were black with red accents and gloves covering most of their faces.

"What do we have here." One of them smirked.

One of the others stepped forward and took off his mask "This should be fun."

"The hero killer himself is here!" One shouted.

The rest of the men started chanting his name as if they were worshipping a statue of him. It was terrifying to say the least.

Suddenly Crimson Crow raised his arm to silence the group before addressing Lance "We need you to take care of those barrels over there, take one and bring me the rest."

Lance was too scared to reply. He wanted to say yes, run away and leave this hell but something deep inside him was telling him to fight. Something stronger than anything he ever thought possible.

"Dad...allow me to orchestrate!"Lance said.

Crimson Crow seemed pleased by his decision but still spoke to the man holding his mask "Take one barrel each, and meet me in the main room." With that he turned around and left leaving Lance alone with the others.

The others kept cheering and making noise as Lance accepted his fate instructing these people who had no real power in the first place to do his bidding.

Lance stood still as fear gripped his insides as he looked down at the crates of guns in front of him. He had never handled guns before and he sure as heck wasn't planning on handling them now. He felt his hands shaking more with every step he took.

"TO THE NEXT HERO KILLER!" They roared.

All Lance could hear was the pounding of his heart until he felt the cold metal on his finger tips. The sound of a rifle firing broke through the chaos and sent the man with the mask flying backward as another gun fired. A bullet grazed his cheek before hitting the wall behind him.

"Stop getting rowdy! If we plan to take the town we need a bit of brains!" Lance yelled.

No one paid any mind to him they continued to scream and holler but Lance refused to let it stop him.

"Alright, listen carefully, the next person to make noise without orders will be dealt with accordingly." Lance threatened.

That seemed to put everyone to ease as they returned to loading the rifles. Lance felt bad for what was going to happen next but there wasn't much he could do now other than wait.

*********

Zari turned to Shiro with a creasant moon grin on her face and a mischievous twinkle in her eye to Shiro's confusion "It looks like today is going to be interesting." she chuckled.

"What do you mean?!" Shiro asked.

"What do you think Lance will do, Shiro?" Zari laughed.

She knew Lance well enough to know that he wouldn't stand around waiting for orders, especially ones he wasn't sure he wanted to carry out. But she hoped this would give him an edge as he needed to learn the way the world worked if he wanted to survive.
