The dragons spewed out molten fire while Lance yelled "No!" as he and his friends were engulfed in a bright blue flame. His eyes watered from the heat and it hurt to look at. They burned so much more than they should have, but no matter how many times he looked away, the tears continued to fall until there was nothing left of them.
He closed his eyes tight, trying to think about something else. Anything. The dragon's breathing grew more erratic with each breath and the red hue of its scales grew darker by the minute. When they finally came to an abrupt stop, Keith's face was buried in the softest part of Lance's chest.
It was only then that Lance felt the weight on him lift. He opened his eyes again and saw that they were back where he had been before everything happened. The castle was gone but Hunk was still here. He was alive. "Hunk…" he croaked, feeling like he would lose consciousness any second.
