Chapter 16 - Fighting Off Evil

The Arcane Guards and sorcerers were still closing the portals when suddenly they heard loud shrills coming out of the countless portals all over the country.

The shrills were so eerie, causing a prodigious wavering to the Magical Bodies of those who were not strong enough.

Sou! Sou! Sou!

There were sounds of something sharp cutting through the wind as countless spectral creatures flew out of the countless portals in the country.

All these spectral creatures were transparent and had a gleam to their transparent bodies. Their appearances were filled with grotesqueness which were beyond description. Their appearances were never stable as they switched from one appearance to another, the former appearance becoming transient. This was enough to give anybody nightmare as their grotesqueness was filled with phantasm, intertwined with a surrealism prodigiosity.

The Arcane Guards and sorcerers immediately kicked into action, activating powerful spells as well as mystical items. They didn't even bother to put up bulwarks as they only considered attacking. This battle strategy would no doubt put them in a dangerous situation. But then, at the same time they would be able to eliminate the spectral creatures quickly even though it was at the expense of their lives.

Several screams and screeches emanated as either the Arcane Guards and sorcerers were killed or the spectral creatures were destroyed by the various spells.

The casualties on the side of Arcane Guards and sorcerers were less. This was because the spectral creatures were not even Middle Array creatures—they were all Array 5 creatures at most.

Facing countless Array 5 creatures was something they could do without breaking a sweat. Coupled with their experience, magical spells and mystical items, bringing the spectral creatures to a state of surcease wasn't something interlaced with difficulty—it was relatively easy.

The battle lasted for hours, the spectral creatures being eliminated in their bulky numbers and the portals being closed. But then, the number on the side of the Arcane Guards and sorcerers was like a grain of sand when laid in comparison to the countless spectral creatures. To the Arcane Guards and sorcerers, the spectral creatures were like grains of sand on the seashore! The more they were killed the more they came out of the portals and in the end, the Arcane Guards and sorcerers had already used up their Magical Bodies and were in a state of magical decadence.

The number of the Arcane Guards and sorcerers began dwindling as the countless Array 5 creatures attacked them. Even though they were flanked by Array 5 items as well, they couldn't fight off the countless continental level threat.

With their dwindling number, they couldn't help but waver in their attacks as they were already put in a highly disadvantageous position. They could only hope a Middle Array sorcerer came to their aid.

The spectral creatures surrounded them from all angles, attacking them with all forms of brutality. Faced with the attacks of the creatures, they couldn't help but put on bulwarks—they had been forced to deviate from attacking.

Several magical barriers encircled the Arcane Guards and sorcerers, protecting them from the Array 5 creatures. These magical barriers were created by the Array 5 Arcane Guards and sorcerers among them and that was why the countless spectral creatures couldn't penetrate them. If they were to be any magical barriers created by lower Array spells, even though one Array low, they would have been immediately destroyed when faced with cyclopean powers of the spectral creatures.

Seeing that the Arcane Guards and sorcerers had been protected by magical barriers, the spectral creatures didn't back down. It was as if the magical barriers didn't pose any threat to them.

Without bothering to try penetrating the magical barriers, they stopped. Their spectral and grotesque figures hovered in the air around the magical barriers as if contemplating on what to do next. Then they opened their mouths.

Seeing this, most of the Arcane Guards and sorcerers nearly died from frenzy. In the mouths of the spectral creatures were countless hands which were moving in undescribable ways!

Clap! Clap! Clap!

The hands began clapping in a sequential way, albeit they were many. The clapping was done in uniformity and orderliness, as if all the spectral creatures were one creature and possessing one mind.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Waves erupted from the mouths of the spectral creatures, surging towards the magical barriers.

Everywhere shook due to the vibrations caused by the waves as everything in their paths were destroyed instantly.

The waves which all surrounded them continued surging forward towards the Arcane Guards and sorcerers.

Many times, they had tried using the Teleportation spell but discovered they couldn't use it. It was like they were locked away in an abyssal chasm where they couldn't escape from!

Counter Vibrations!

The Arcane Guards and sorcerers from the School of Alchemy immediately cast a spell in harmony.

The School Of Alchemy was one of the two schools in the Science Form magic. It dealt with the study of physical and metaphysical properties of the cosmos. Matter, energy, particles, waves and others too numerous to mention were all studied in this school and as such, spells pertaining to all these were in abundance.

The Arcane Guards and sorcerers had already known what type of attack the spectral creatures were using and inferred that they were using 'counter vibrations' attack.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Counter vibrations were sent surging towards the incoming waves of the spectral creatures.

Although the number of waves emitted by the spectral creatures were numerous and as well countless, the counter vibrations emitted by the Arcane Guards and sorcerers countered all those!

Boom!

Waves overlapped, canceling each other in the micro world. This in turn affected the macro world as the space around them was ripped apart, spewing out multicoloured ripples.

Hand of Miracles!

Array 5 Arcane Guards and sorcerers in the Thaumaturgy School immediately cast their own spells.

The Name of Array for Array 5 in the Thaumaturgy School was Miracle Worker. Miracle Workers were capable of performing miracles with their spells and that was what they did now!

The spectral creatures, influenced by the spells, immediately met their waterloo. They were plunged into a state of chasm and could not even counter the spells. They didn't even know how they couldn't counter the spells or why as they watched themselves destroyed and the countless portals close instantly.

Seeing this, the Arcane Guards and sorcerers were mildly relieved but they didn't dare let down their guard. They felt that they were able to close the countless portals in the country because the dimensions they connected to had only Array 5 creatures. Hence, the spectral creatures and countless portals were eliminated.

~

Countless spectral creatures flew out of the countless portals, releasing eerie screams which caused the people around to be petrified, making them unable to even think.

At that moment, a Priest dressed in white robes appeared. His hair and eyes were dark, carrying with them the infinite gorge. His appearance was pale and ghostly, giving him the nature of eerieness. Around his neck was a white crucifix carrying with it divine auras which spread to the environment, giving one a sense of halo and warmth.

Staring at the spectral creatures with his abyssal eyes, the priest remained calm. He stood without bulging a bit as the spectral creatures approached.

This Priest was a Level 5, Necromancer. He didn't belong to any Schools of Magic or Schools of Combat, rather he belonged to the Righteousness School[1] of Priesthood[2]. The Schools of Priesthood had no magic like the Magic Schools or combat powers like the Combat Schools, rather they were endowed with the ability to perform miracles. But then like sorcerers and Knyghts, they also had tiers and needed to advance and their tiers were known as Levels. Unlike the Magic Arrays which were up to 12, the Priesthood Level stopped at 6 just like the Combat Tiers.

Suddenly, the spectral creatures let out a screech of pain in harmony as they retreated into the countless portals. The man hadn't even bulged one bit to attack them but they were plunged into an abyss of fear by mere seeing his nature!

All the portals closed up instantly, everything returning to normalcy. The people who were petrified earlier immediately regained their lustre and began wondering what had happen.

The Priest, seeing that everything was fine, smiled wryly and took a step forward. Immediately he vanished amidst an outburst of spectral creatures.

~

Several people stood, staring at the countless portals. They were donned in silvery robes which glistened even in the darkness. Strapped to their sides were long sheaths which no doubt contained swords. Their statures were calm and composed, exuding powerful auras.

These were all Tier 5 Knyghts from the country of Knyghtdom[3]. Like the other two countries, Duchy and Arcana[4], they also experienced the countless opening of portals due to the tear in dimensional fabric.

The King had given orders for Tier 2 Knyghts to combat the anomaly because they were very powerful. The lower Tier 1 Knyghts were ordered to protect the civilians while the higher Tier 3 Knyghts were sent out of the country to combat any anomaly which would sweep in.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Several winds surged out of the portals, causing their hairs to flutter. The winds slapped against their faces but they didn't even quiver their eyes for a second.

Then countless spectres flew out of the portals, releasing loud screeches which penetrated reality, threatening to rip reality in halves. It was obvious their screams alone carried tremendous powers.

Sou!

The Knyghts all drew their swords in harmony, the blades releasing glimmers of silvery light.

Five Folds of Heaven!

In harmony they slashed downwards, their movements filled with the ever existing Logos.

The silvery blades shimmered greatly, releasing white gusts of light which spread through the whole country, travelling beyond as well. Everywhere the light reached was embowered in surreality, plunging reality into a state of phantasm.

Just as they slashed downwards, they sheathed their swords. It was as if they hadn't even moved! But then the swordsmanship they had just displayed right now carried with it an effect filled with prodigiosity!

The spectral creatures had stopped due to the great gust of light. Seeing that the light had cleared, they had wanted to attack when they saw something which left them petrified!

Heaven was split into five folds, each fold representing Logos and having different colours. The first one was yellow, the second was orange, the third was grey, the fourth was lemon and the fifth was white.

The spectral creatures saw the folds of heaven descend on them, their sights blocked by the five colours. They couldn't even use their abilities and as a result couldn't even defend against the attack. What a powerful martial arts!

The clouds enshrouded the spectral creatures and the portals and then receded to the sky. When everything was over, there were no spectral creatures or countless portals.

The Knyghts, seeing that the spectral creatures had been destroyed didn't let down their guard. They continued standing, waiting for another attack which would come as a result of the tear in the dimensional fabric.

[1] Righteousness School: This is a school under the Godly Priesthood, one of the two Forms of Priesthood—the other being Satanic Priesthood. Like other Schools of Godly Priesthood, it dealt with miracles and other divine powers.

[2] Priesthood: This is the state of being a Priest. Across all the continents of the world, it was believed Priests carried divine and miraculous powers and were believed to be spokesmen or spokeswomen of Goddess. When one enters Priesthood, he or she becomes a spokesperson of Goddess and must cultivate his or her Divine Body in other to advance.

[3] Knyghtdom: This is one of the three countries of Southern Continent. It is a country which comprised mostly of Knyghts, beings who have supernatural combat powers. This country had less of sorcerers and priests and laid west of the Southern Continent, separated from the other two by a great sea which runs through the whole continent.

This country was headed by the King and other Middle Tier Knyghts who served as Members of the Parliament.

[4] Arcana: It is the northern country of the Southern Continent, the western country being Duchy. Unlike Knyghtdom which had a greater number of Knyghts or Duchy which had a greater number of sorcerers, it had a greater number of Priests. Like the other countries, it is surrounded by a great sea. Unlike the other countries which had a supreme head, Arcane wasn't like that. The Priests there believed in the rulership of the Goddess and as such had no head even though there were Popes who usually made decisions.
