EP 30: Where two roads shall meet

When Doctor Hither entered her VIP room, he could sense the tension in the atmosphere, but he was also one to convey a distracted appearance when needed be. He had been Sairham's Doctor since the day she arrived in the Shaft's mansion, so he could say they were more than acquaintances. They couldn't discard each other.
The first day he treated her, she was a victim of drowning. Griggs was the one who carried her to a small town hospital where she was treated. (He guessed she didn't know that, even now.) Later on, she was transferred to the Shaft's mansion where she was treated specially by doctor Hither.
He had done major checkup on her and she seemed to be in good health which also surprised him. "You have recovered tremendously well. Well commendable. You are having fatigue due to hormonal imbalances in your body which will balance out as time goes by—you will get used to it."
Sairham rested her back and smiled. "Hmm. I do feel a little sore. How long do I have to continue taking the steroids?"
Doctor Hither folded his stethoscope and tucked it in his coat's pocket and said, "When your dosage is finished." He smiled.
"And how long is that?"
"There is no rush. You still have three days to go."
Sai rolled her eyes which made Hither chuckle.
"Relax, Sai, it's only three days. You will be discharged by next tomorrow. You will take your last dosage at home."
She sat up. "Really?"
Hither nodded. "I have kept you here some more days so we could ensure there is nothing else wrong in your system. You are doing well. With that being said, you will need to be making pints of donation for storage."
"Storage?"
He nodded. "Yes. Your blood test results shows that you have Rh-null blood type, also known as golden blood. And you know that such blood type is rare to find. If you don't make storage for yourself, the day you may need it, you may regret it. Better to plan ahead of such scenarios."
"Ahh...I see." She said, looking around at her guards. "Is that what all the fuss is about? Why these people here are protecting me? Because I have a rare blood type that could easily be traded by those who have the information?"
Hither looker at the unbothered faces of her guards and smiled. "Yes, your blood type is rare and such information could be dangerous in hands of people who don't mean well, traffickers and all...but I doubt that is the reason for all these, Sai."
"Hm." She didn't say anything further. She rested her back, her pillow helping her to sit up.
"May I introduce someone to you?" Doctor Hither asked turning to Aurora. "This is Doctor Aurora, a resident General Surgeon in the hospital."
Aurora walked forward, shaking her hand. "Pleased to meet you, miss Sairham."
"You too."
They stopped shaking.
Sai looked at her eyes, she had rare emerald eyes. They were beautiful. "I like your eyes. They are pretty. But I guess you hear that a lot."
Aurora laughed because that was a true compliment. "Quite the contrary actually. They just get jealous of them and attack me for it, saying I am wearing lenses. You are one of the first persons to sincerely compliment my eyes.
"Which means there have been others." Sai stated.
Aurora smiled. "Of course. But yours was very sincere, thank you."
They smiled at each other.
"Well," Doctor Hither rubbed his palm together. "Now that you have both met, I will go to other business."
Aurora didn't know what he meant by that but it sounded like he intended for them to meet yet, he was not stating why.
"Miss Sairham," Doctor Hither said. "Doctor Aurora is from today my student and I, her mentor."
Aurora turned so swiftly she could have broken her neck. The surprise was evident on her face.
Sai was looking at her, brows raised and smiling.
"She will be my assistant Doctor from now on. Whenever you don't see me, you will see her."
They were interrupted by the door opening and closing, Clara walking in with bags in her hand. Her chirpy voice coming through as usual. "I had to go find the best food joints to get these food. It was one hell of a walk." She dropped them on the table, not even realizing other people were there. When she was done releasing the bags from her hands, she turned, surprised by their presence. "Doctor Hither?!"
Hither smiled, adjusting his glasses.
"You were here?"
"And as usual, always looking past the obvious." He said. "Why so surprised? I am here checking on my patient."
"I didn't notice."
Hither nodded. "And as usual, the meticulous Clara didn't notice." He turned to Sai. "If you all will excuse us, we have other patients to visit." He faced Aurora, "Shall we?"
Aurora smiled at Clara and Sai. "Excuse me."
And with that being said, they both exited the room, leaving Clara and Sai...and the guards.
"Who was that female doctor?" Clara asked.
"Her name is Aurora, A GS."
"GS?"
"Yes. A general surgeon."
"Oh...But I have never seen Doctor Hither allow another Doctor in here without his being around...never mind. What am I saying? She was literally here with him."
Sai smiled. "She just turned to his assistant surgeon and she was very surprised by it. We will be seeing her a lot before I get discharged." She lightened up and grinned. "I will be discharged by next tomorrow!"
Clara smiled. "Really?!"
"Hm-hm."
"That's good news then. Even I am tired of the hospital and I am not the one in bed." She sighed, wrapping her scarf around her neck and turning to distribute the bags on the table. "I think, Crux, Storm and the other two will be the first to eat. After which they will switch with the ones outside so they can feed as well. I can't stand people being hungry. If I were at the house now, I would have prepared meal for everyone."
She brought out the disposable plates and spoons, transferring them to the side table in the room. "Crux, Storm," Clara called to them, " ...come have your meals."
They looked at Drogo who nodded to them to go ahead.
They sat, collected the rubber fork from Clara, taking two chairs and sat. When they opened their plates, they had tomatoe sauced spaghetti and smoked chicken in it, then a little vegetable salad by the side.
Clara brought out two table waters from the small fridge and handed it to them.
"Thank you." They said.
Clara smiled and patted their backs, like a mother would their child. She just had a naturally caring instinct in her. She turned to Drogo and Haden, "I think it's your turn as well."
"We will wait till they are done." Drogo said.
"Wouldn't it be easier to eat now so the other two outside could switch when you all are done?"
"We will wait." Drogo said firmly.
Sai noticed that his profound characteristic was inflexibility...or so. He was just stubborn. His mind wasn't one that could be convinced easily.
"Suit yourself then." Clara said, sitting on the little couch by Sai's bed.

"Doctor Hither, you didn't tell me this before hand. You are dropping this on me like a hydrogen bomb!" Aurora was walking side by side with him, more like walking after him because he was walking with heavy pace. They were headed to the elevator.
He turned to her. "Do you not want to be my mentee? A lot of young Doctors these days are dying to having me ad their mentor. Are you insinuating you are not one of them?"
She pressed her lips together and smiled. "No."
"Stop smiling."
"Yes sir." She stopped.
"I have decided to take you under my wing and this matter is for your ears alone. Understood?"
She nodded. "Yes sir. Totally."
He stared her from head to toe. "You are one hell of a mess. You are not done yet." He turned to the elevator and pressed a button, it opened to them. "Get in."

He took her to the fifth floor. No one had ever been to the fifth floor nor seen it. It had tinted glasses and a separate place for green house effect. It was like a penthouse in a building. There were only two doors on this floor, it looked like a big office.
Aurora not wanting to disturb the reticent feeling of this place decided to start speaking in a whisper. "Doctor Hither?"
"Hm?"
"What is this place?"
Doctor Hither didn't lower his voice. He just spoke as he usually did. "It is a secluded chamber from the hospital."
"Is it residential?"
"It is an office...for the owner of the hospital."
They stood in front of the second door, looking at the thick metal door in front of them.
"The owner? The owner is in this building?" She asked.
Hither smiled. "He is always around." He pushed the metal door opened, presenting a wide office with a larger library space than Hither's own office downstairs.
Except for the little music box playing by the side wall, she was more surprised at the person sitting resting slightly on the table, dressed in a navy blue suit and trouser, A black shirt and a black tie. His thick short dark hair was curled in a sophisticated aura, his long legs crossed over the other, displaying his leather handsewn shoes. He had on two black earrings on his earlobes.
He seemed like he was in the middle of solving a rubik cube game when they walked in.
Aurora smiled at him. "You?"
He raised his head up, his brows raising up im question at her.
"I have met you before, remember? You were at my house the other day. You ran up to give me my friend's purse. You are Lorin's boss. Yes?"
He didn't say anything. He just looked at her.
"You are Mr Shaft. Lorin's boss."
He dropped the rubik cube on his table, standing up to his full height, a belittling six four and walked slowly towards her and Hither, he had an aloof expression.
When he stopped before her, he observed her from head to toe and just wondered if she was just clueless or she just didn't have manners. But he didn't talk about it. Instead, he asked, "Are you sure you are talking about me?"
Aurora looked at him, she could swear that she was not tripping. Wasn't he the one who came upstairs with his bodyguard the other day? The one who told her to compliment anything she felt like she liked? Or maybe he just didn't recall. No! That was two days ago? What the hell!
She looked up at him. "I don't easily forget a face...sir."
He smirked. "I am sure." His eyes shifted to Hither. "Is she the one?"
Hither nodded..
He stared at her again, his eyes dazing out.
Hither turned to Aurora. "Aurora, this is Mr Dillion Shaft, the brother to the president of the hospital, the son of the late chairman and owner of the hospital."
Aurora pressed her lips together, blinking rapidly. She was just speaking to...she raised her hand to her mouth to hold in her shock. She rested her hands in front of her and bowed embarrassedly in front of him. "Sorry sir. I was rude earlier on. Pardon my manners. I thought you were someone I knew."
Dillion noticed she was embarrassed and looked at Hither, both understanding each other with their eyes. "I am one to hold a grudge but it's not that deep." He said and walked back to his table, sitting on it, his feet still touching the carpet.
Hither patted Aurora's shoulder as a sign of consoling. "Feel at ease, okay?"
She nodded.
"Aurora," Dillion called.
She raised her head up to look at him. "Sir?"
"I am aware you have some military trainings in your earlier years of study." He said.
Aurora looked at him, confusion on her face. "Yes?"
He picked up his Rubik, turning it. "And you have met the mother of my unborn child?"
She furrowed her brows. "Mother of your...unborn child?"
"Sairham." Hither told her.
"Oh..." Her eyes widened. So he was the one Patricia was talking about. Wow! But wasn't he also Lorin's boss or was she tripping? "I met her not too long ago."
He nodded, his eyes fixed on the cube he was playing with in his hands. "And Doctor Hither has told you the reason why you are now her Doctor?"
She turned to Hither. "No, he didn't."
Dillion looked from Hither to Aurora and back to Hither, he grimaced. "You see Aurora," He said, getting her attention. "You are to start working at the Shaft's mansion starting next week."
"And this decision was made without asking my opinion first?" She was upset.
Dillion's brows were triggered. "That is for your boss to give the details. The only thing I am to say to you is," He stood up, taking the Rubik cube with him and he walked towards her, "Whatever happened while in the room where Sai is," He stood before her, his dark raven eyes shooting gazes at her wild emeralds, "remains in the room, with those where she is. Do we understand?"
Aurora didn't speak a word. Was that a threat? She just didn't know what to say.
"I asked if you understand?" When she didn't reply, he said, "I will take that as a yes."
He looked at Hither, behind him, Griggs was standing. "We will be on our way then."
