Mr. Wolfe and I had barely spoken since the night before. I didn't really know what it meant. Whether he regrets what he had done or not. I had figured that after he had gotten what he wanted, he would've at least been honest with what it meant, but alas.
It was Saturday, so my day off. Johnny and I agreed to get some coffee so we could talk about what had happened the night before, and he could give me some perspective. We met up at the coffee shop, ordered our drinks, and found a spot.
"So, what's up? You sounded like you had something to talk about." Johnny casually leaned back in the armchair, his left leg ankle placed on his knee.
I shifted in my seat, nervous to hear his opinion on the matter. "Well, Mr. Wolfe, my boss, and I slept together last night at a dinner party."
"Damn, Lili." He tsked.
"I'm not looking for judgment." I looked over at him sadly, to see he was just joking as he had his hands up in surrender.
"Sorry. No more jokes. That's a good thing, though, right? You like the guy."
"I do. A lot. We've been playing this game since he first met me, acting like he wants to have sex, but never going through with it. But we finally did, we both gave in, and now he's barely talking to me."
"Could be he just finally got what he wanted, Lili." Johnny shrugged slightly. "When I'm in it for a one-night stand, I don't exactly try to keep up the conversation afterward."
"But I'm his nanny. What am I supposed to do?"
"Just pretend like nothin' happened, I guess." He shrugged again.
"For how long, Johnny?"
"Why does it matter to you so much?"
"Cause…I really like him." I admitted, more to myself than anything. I had grown closer to him, closer than I figured he let many others. He and Lark meant a lot to me. "I don't want to lose my job, to lose them, because I gave in."
"I get that." Johnny nodded sympathetically. "Well, right now there's nothing you can do but try and talk to him."
"Well, not right now. I guess I should try to enjoy my day off without worrying about this the whole day."
"You should. I have something in mind for the day if you're interested."
I smiled slightly. "I am."
"You ever been to the catacombs here in D.C.?" Johnny asked with a smile.
"I haven't even heard of them."
"I think you'll like it."
----
Johnny unlocked the door before pushing it open for us. "You sure you don't mind me sleeping over here?"
"'Course not. Kinda actually like it when you're around."
"Flatterer." I rolled my eyes, sitting on his messy couch. The place seemed dirtier than the last time I was here, but I didn't mind too much.
"It's just the truth." He shrugged. "So, how'd you like the catacombs?"
"I found them pretty cool. Very macabre. Makes me want to paint something spooky for the season."
"Go right on ahead." Johnny motioned towards the door to his art studio before sitting down next to me.
"Oh, actually, Mr. Wolfe gave me a room in the house to do art and gave me some money for supplies. I started a painting a few days ago."
"Guess you don't need me anymore, do you?"
"I still like having you around." I nudged him.
"So, any plans for the day tomorrow?"
"Apple picking with the boss." I took a deep breath. "I'm dreading it."
"Lili, you'll be fine. Just talk to him about it. You're both adults."
"Yeah, but he's not exactly one to talk about his feelings."
"Most guys aren't." He shrugged. "Some of us prefer to do it in a painting."
I rolled my eyes. "Got any consoles around this place?"
"I do. Wanna play?"
"Fuck yeah!"
