Chereads / Oberon / Chapter 2 - the hero power

Chapter 2 - the hero power

At just three years old, Alexander could already read and write. His late-night study sessions had made him smarter than the other children his age. However, he tried to behave like a normal child with the other adults, just a little more polite and respectful—hoping to attract the admiration rather than unwanted attention. After all, despite his intelligence, Alexander was still a weak child in a world ruled by powerful people.

The Davis family was a loving and wealthy household, Alexander had everything he needed—good meals, fine clothes, numerous servants he even had a vast library filled with books of all kinds.

Books were a rare commodity but the Davis family, with their history spanning over 10,000 years, could afford and even collect them. Their grand and spacious library contained volumes on geography, history and even magic.

Alexander spent his days immersed in knowledge. From his reading, he learned that the continent he lived on was called Oberon—a massive super-continent inhabited by not just humans but also gnomes, elves, demons and even aquatic humanoids called Biangos. The continent was full of intelligent beings from various races.

Alexander lived in the far north of Oberon, in a human settlement founded 15,000 years ago. Despite its vastness, less than 10% of the continent had been explored.

Most humans lived in the central regions, constantly threatened by monsters. Occasionally, powerful heroes would emerge to expand human territory, while at other times, monstrous hordes would invade and destroy the human settlements.

Three dominant factions ruled over humanity:

The Mages of the Elements—who sought harmony with the natural elements and were the most powerful faction.

The Dark Mages—who were known for their cruelty and madness.

The Oumros Faction—devoted to the pursuit of knowledge (the name "Oumros" means "knowledge" in the ancient language).

Each of these factions had at least one Level 9 mage, making them incredibly influential.

Humans on Oberon followed a strict power hierarchy divided into nine tiers, with Level 1 being the weakest and Level 9 the strongest.

Higher-tier kingdoms produced lower-tier kingdoms, forming a structured system.

Alexander's homeland was classified as a Type 3 kingdom. Notably, a Type 8 kingdom could create another Type 8 kingdom if a powerful clan chose to split into two different entities but most of the time, one faction would kill the other as it felt threatened.

During the day, Alexander studied relentlessly and at night, he meditated. He knew that without proper knowledge, his magical journey could take dangerous turns, potentially leading to irreversible consequences so he tried to be really disciplined, reducing the chances of a mistake made by himself, as for mistakes made by people or pure bad luck, Alexander could only hope for the best.

Fortunately, the system he had access to strengthened his body and enhanced his cognitive abilities.

One morning, as he walked to the library, he accidentally stepped on an insect. Suddenly, he heard a notification:

Ding! 1 experience point acquired.

Curious, Alexander asked the system about the sound he just heard, the system explained that the insect's vital energy had been transferred to him and converted into experience points.

Shocked by this revelation, Alexander inquired if he could check his current experience points. The system informed him that he needed to think the word "menu," which would bring up a status window.

Alexander:

System:

Alexander: "From the beginning, you had this option and never told me?"

System: "The host never inquired about it."

Alexander:

Alexander: "Menu."

(For reference, an average adult human has Strength: 10, Agility: 10, Vitality: 10, Intelligence: 10.)

For another year, Alexander continued his routine of studying and meditation. By his fourth birthday, after having read every book in the family library, he was finally ready to take his first steps toward adventure, as he needed to find ways to acquire more resources and vital energy.

After a year of bonding with the system, Alexander's body had grown stronger and more muscular, Though he now required more energy to level up, he was significantly stronger than his peers.

Checking his stats once again, he saw:

Realizing that accumulating experience was crucial, Alexander devised a clever plan. He began purchasing chickens due to their rapid reproduction cycle—each reaching maturity in just three months and producing 4-10 chicks at a time, each chicken also provided 5 experience points upon slaughter, and they were relatively cheap, costing only 5 copper coins each.

After informing his parents about his "meat business," they fully supported him, even providing 10 gold coins as an investment. With these funds, Alexander's calculations showed promising returns:

5 copper coins per chicken, 20 chickens per silver coin so 200 chickens per gold coin

plus the number of chicken will double or more every 3 months ( 3 to 4 chicks every 3 month for every female chicken , 80% of the chickens are female )

By reinvesting his monthly allowance into chickens, he ensured a steady increase in experience. However, he knew this alone wouldn't be enough. He needed additional sources of energy.

from multiple trials, Alexander realized that nature itself contained vital energy. However, extracting it from trees and plants was far too slow. Instead, he set his sights on hunting animals, and to do so, he needed better equipment.

Traveling with a servant to Emerald City—one of the kingdom's largest cities—Alexander explored armories and markets and after checking every building, He purchased:

A high-quality bow (4 gold coins) and Arrows, an Emerald Bear armor (4 gold coins)10 Air Elemental Stones (5 gold coins each) and some Respentine which was a plant that masked energy fluctuations

After returning home, Alexander continued his routine, now incorporating hunting into his daily schedule.

As he was venturing into the forest with a servant, he took down wild boars, tigers, and rabbits. As he honed his archery skills, his experience points steadily increased:

Ding! 30 experience points acquired.Ding! 35 experience points acquired.Ding! 5 experience points acquired.

Within weeks, he had become a formidable hunter, moving further away from the Davis estate to seek stronger prey.

After a year of relentless training, Alexander decided to learn swordsmanship. His next goal was to face high-level monsters and even human opponents. His father, John, recognizing his son's maturity, agreed to his request.

Alexander also bought a slave—a robust warrior named Soren.

Captured during a war, Soren had lost his family and was enslaved. Alexander struck a deal with him: 30 years of service in exchange for freedom and assistance in avenging his fallen kin.

Soren, having awakened the Earth element, was a natural tank . With intensive training and the aid of some elemental stones, he was progressing toward Level 0-Intermediate. Meanwhile, Alexander reached Level 0-Pinnacle.

On a cold and cloudless night, Alexander set out alone to eliminate the notorious "Black Wolves" bandit group.

Using the cover of darkness, he silently took down the minions before infiltrating their leader's tent.

contrary to his expectations, the bandits were a bunch of normal peasants, who got easily killed, no one guarded the camp at night and they all slept alone or with some women

As the blade neared the leader's skull, the man awoke just in time to evade the strike. A tense confrontation ensued.

Alexander, using deception, tricked the leader into surrendering his treasures, swearing to let the leader leave if he gave him all of his gold

like that —2,000 gold coins— were gained before delivering the final blow.
