Chapter 9 - Rumors

"Dan, do you know Mr. Damian?"

Olivia's eyes sprung open as though they had almost been severed from her petals.

"I've heard he's moving to the branch office!"

Olivia had already slandered Dania this morning with the rumor she had just overheard. Dania felt a tug on her arm as she was getting ready for work, locking her bag in the locker. Dania finds the term "move" to sound a little disgusting when Olivia clarifies that it was only used to describe those who left the company because they had already made a mistake and would probably end up in the hospital, even if they were still lucky.

Dania believes that Chris is not as evil as people are making him out to be. This belief is bolstered by the fact that Chris smiled at Dania's father last night and seemed friendly. If Olivia had known, she might have questioned Dania even more harshly than she did yesterday.

"Dany, you don't appear to be terrified of the story at all, huh?"

Dania had only been silent to hear Olivia retell situations from earlier, and Olivia was disappointed since it appeared as though Dania's mind was not present with her body.

Dania didn't respond until Olivia reminded her again that she shouldn't approach Chris, which left Olivia disappointed that she hadn't taken her talk seriously.

"I think I made everything clear to you. We had no other relationship than the fact that Mr. Chris helped me the other day." Dania tried to convince Olivia of her defense the other day.

"In fact, there must be a lot of beautiful women nearby who would make excellent options for Mr. Chris to pursue."

However, Olivia had a sour expression on her face as she glared at Dania while folding her arms across her chest and rolling her eyes.

"Come on, Dany, we know quite well how many men in this company would approach you shamelessly if you didn't have a boyfriend."

"They presumably enjoy similar things to mine because those are two separate things. But Mr. Chris?" Along with her response, Dania gave a headshake.

"But, Dany...."

Dania waved at Olivia without looking back because Olivia's worries were too much for her to focus on her friend. She then took the stack of documents that would be given to other departments for follow-up.

While waiting for the elevator to open, the girl flipped open a corner of the document she was carrying to make sure nothing was lost and that everything was correct. As soon as the elevator's sound was heard and the door opened, the girl stepped inside while still checking her file. She didn't look away as she lowered her head and pressed the button to take Dania to the floor she wanted to be at in the building.

Dania was so startled that her shoulders trembled as she saw Chris' shadow standing directly behind her as it was reflected off the elevator wall. Dania hastily shifted to the right side of the elevator and bowed slightly in apology for not anticipating the presence of her own boss. She must have made a huge mistake because Chris didn't like being disrespected, and she was unaware that Chris was there. Dania can now also see a man standing next to Chris, imploring her to keep her composure, but Chris doesn't reply and hardly even gives Dania a glance, acting as if they are total strangers. Chris was the first person to exit the elevator after it had sounded, leaving Dania alone inside with hobbling knees.

Dania can always sense when she looks into Chris's blue eyes that he has a soft side, despite the fact that he has never voiced it. While Chris's harsh features may be unnerving, Dania is strangely warmed by his blue eyes.

Dania handed the document to the finance department, but there was already a crowd and they weren't whispering; they were talking loudly about Mr. Damian's move—the same person Olivia had mentioned by name earlier that day. Dania initially noticed that the person going by the name of Damian had revealed firm information to competing companies.

"Mr. Damian's wife told me Mr. Chris called him last night to come to the house,"

"Are you serious, or what? Lary received a call from Mr. Chris's assistant last night, inviting him to Mr. Chris's house."

"And Lary didn't go to work today, either?"

Dania could hear the dialogue so clearly that she soon forgot her purpose for entering the room.

A female voice shouted from a table at the opposite end of the room, "Dany?" The woman was rubbing her head repeatedly when Dania walked over to the bespectacled woman.

"Mrs. Ramirez, these are some documents and a few letters that were filed this morning."

"Leave it alone, I guess. Thank you, Dany."

Dania finished her work, nodded, and walked away, but the conversation about Mr. Damian wasn't done until she did. Dania was curious to hear about their experiences because she wasn't quite sure of what she was hearing.

Mr. Matthew had already taken a position in front of the desk, his hands on the table on one side and his side to his waist on the other. He was talking with Olivia and a woman wearing a formal outfit.

"Well, here it is." When Mr. Matthew turned back and saw Dania approaching them, he waved farewell promptly.

"Dania, come on over!"

Dania made her way to her supervisor at an increasingly rapid pace. Dania was greeted by Mr. Matthew with a smile, despite the fact that he typically yelled at her, despite the fact that she had done nothing wrong. Dania and Olivia used to tease Mr. Matthew behind him for this.

"She is Miss Sarah Knox, and she will be training here on reception-related matters for three months. She will work the same shift as you, and you are in charge of monitoring her job."

Even though there are two shifts in the receptionist department and the shifts are switched every week, oddly enough, Dania frequently works with Olivia. Olivia has heard rumors that this is due to Mr. Matt's special relationship with Nenna, another member of the reception staff, and that Mr. Matt consistently refers to Nenna as her best friend. Jessy.

Mr. Matt likely believes that his affair is unknown to others, despite the fact that Dania and Olivia have already seen them together in a car and laughed passionately as if it were not a relationship between supervisors and staff.

"Even though Mrs. Matt is such a badass!"

When the two saw the affair, Olivia said as much.

"Nenna must prefer to be by themselves as the office begins to become quiet, which explains why they consistently work the middle shift." Or another remark similar to this one from Olivia. "Nenna and Jessy's jobs have always been simpler than ours, I hate that our boss is such a jerk. Fuck!!"

Every time Dania works with Olivia, she hears gossip about the whole team, but she should also be grateful because Olivia is a great friend to have.

"Dania!! Could you hear me?"

She was daydreaming when Mr. Matt pronounced Dania's name loud and clear, and she was instantly startled.

"Yep, that's OK, sir."

When Dania and Olivia approached the new worker, Mr. Matt got up from the front desk and returned to his room. Miss Knox started applying for jobs as soon as she received her college degree, but she felt that working at the Royal Shopping Centre would be her ideal position. Dania only wanted to have friends besides Olivia and Sarah, who wouldn't be quite as challenging because the girl seemed educated and passionate.

"Dany, are you returning from the financial department?" Olivia rearranged Sarah's body and stepped up to Dania.

Olivia nodded, her eyebrows closely linked, and Dania gave her a weird look.

"Was what I said before true?" As Olivia waited impatiently for her response, Dania drew her attention.

Dania didn't say anything, only shrugged her shoulders, which made Olivia more curious.

"They must be referring to Mr. Damian, right?"

Dania was forced to provide a roughly identical statement when Olivia's requests were still not met.

"They said that he had been moved."

Dania's simple response to Olivia's babbling caused Olivia to quickly turn her waist.

"Dany, do you still doubt its veracity? This is a very important issue!!" Olivia pushed all of her sounds, but her intonation was still controlled.

When Sarah overheard their discussion, she questioned, "Who is Mr. Damian?" When Olivia and Dania noticed Sarah was there, they immediately stopped talking and agreed not to spread stories about rumours on her first day of work.

Dania and Olivia exchanged glances, and Dania could see that Olivia was thinking the same thing she was, especially given how loudly the news was being reported. Dania makes an effort not to believe it, though, until she witnesses the whispers about Chris for herself.

Chris was curled up on the sofa in his office, his eyes closed, and his hands splayed out on either side of his body.

"You've fixed them, Mark?"

"Indeed, sir. Dr. Luca has also arrived. In one week, they'll be fine," said a tall man with glasses who was standing next to the sofa and whose hands never let go of the tab carrying Chris's whole work schedule every day. He knew everything Chris did in the business sector and was also a confidant. He knew Chris's method for destroying the impostor.

Chris is unaffected by the law; he knows how to play it safe despite being on the brink, knows what to do when he is in danger, and he never wavers in his commitment.

Chris opened his eyes and stood with his elbows on his knees, straightening his body. "Can't we take them to play golf again after their condition has improved?"

Even though there was obvious fear in Chris' sentence, the bespectacled man was not shocked to hear it. Mark has never denied it, and this is not the first time.

"I also have information regarding the woman you requested,"

When his assistant mentioned the woman he had been seeking for the previous few years, Chris' body tensed and he asked, "sure?"

"Tell me now!"
