"Corsen", Jack called her name as they walked through the thicket with Corsen leading the way.
"I know", she stopped moving, putting up her guard.
"We need to get down", Jack slowly approached her.
There were hostiles nearby. A part of them had been expecting that. Corsen and Jack had gone to the castle to deliver Wolfe's message to the Lord. The tensions rising in the country could not be ignored any longer.
"How many are there?", Jack whispered to her.
However, before she could open her mouth, a horse jumped over the tall bushes they were hiding behind. The two looked back in shock as a white horse neighed. The master holding its reins smirked, conceitedly.
"What? Are you Beasts just hot air after all? Hiding like that, how pathetic!", he laughed.
This young man was clad in bright steel armor and his golden hair shone brightly in the sun. Still, the look he carried in his eyes was of utter disgust.
"Knights of the Round Table", Corsen said as she stood up straight, facing the man.
"At least you can tell when you see gold", the knight smirked even wider.
"Lancelot", the knight spoke pridefully, "that's my name."
Soon as he said that, the two of them were surrounded by more horsemen, twelve in total.
Corsen looked at each of them.
"Our Lord's prison wouldn't be the worst place", Corsen smiled slightly as she said it.
"Corsen!", Jack didn't understand why she had given up so easily. Though they were more in number, Jack knew they had nothing on him.
Corsen looked sternly at him and shook her head. And all he could wonder was why.
"Prison is a nice place, huh? Well, too bad, it isn't going to be our Lord's much longer", Lancelot grinned.
After hearing that, something flipped inside Corsen as she launched herself like a beast straight at Lancelot, only to be barred by Gawain and repelled back. She relentlessly continued to attack. That was how the Beasts fought, ruthlessly, with no holds barred. And Jack knew it as he saw her devouring Gawain's neck before being stabbed by Galahad. But she didn't stop even then. One by one, she tore at every single one of them, trying to reach Lancelot but failing every time. Gawain fell off his horse trying to shield him.
The rest didn't bother to stop at that either. As soon as Jack saw her being pinned on the ground, he grabbed Gawain's horse. But before he could get on it, he looked back at Corsen.
"You can't fight. If we kill them now, Wolfe and everyone else...and you Jack...you won't have a place anymore. So run away this time. You have the right to live. Live like you've never lived before. Rage...and rage and live. For me too. And I'll keep my promise. For you to keep running away, I'll stay"
Jack hadn't noticed the crimson blood that covered most of that area now was the same color as her hair. Painfully, he looked at her head being crushed under Galahad's foot. And numbingly he rode away, he ran away like she told him to.
When Jack came to, he was lying in mud, conscious all the way through, but not in the now. He had fallen from his horse and it had begun to rain. The sun was already down ages ago.
Corsen.
She was right in front of his eyes. She simply wouldn't go away. He reminded himself how he had let her go. Tristan and Percival, they had chased him. But at some point, everything had disappeared for him.
"1...2...3...", Jack began to count and remember every single day he had known Corsen now and he thought of everything that had happened so far. And he continued to count till who knows when. And when he did stop, he remembered her again.
"Ah...I see", he smiled weakly to himself, looking up at the sky as it rained on him, "We weren't lovers. We only met once before...beside that garden fence. That's where I always go and that's where I met Corsen. One time."
Jack continued to mumble in his delirium and water flowed from his eyes, he didn't know if it was his tears or rain. He spread his hands in the air and deliriously sang about something. A song, minors in Halen used to sing and then he began to laugh like a drunkard. Then he began talking to Corsen as if she was there and he howled her name many times, toppling over in the mud not knowing anything whatsoever.
The prophecy had come true. Jack had truly lost everything.
