Chapter 9 - An argument

•••Preston's POV•••

"Today's meeting was really stressful. Wow the rain is pretty heavy today" I said while turning on the wiper to clear the car windscreen and switching on the car headlight. "I really need to drive slowly, I don't want to get into an accident" I said while releasing the pressure I applied to the accelerate. As I was drove, my headlight shone at a bus bench with a roof top. I could see a figure laying on it, who might be laying there? I asked myself. As I drove closer, I saw a girl on the bench. Poor girl, due to the rain maybe she wasn't able to get a bus, I concluded feeling sorry for her.

As I got out of the car, I pulled out an umbrella and walked closer to the bench. "Audrey?!" I called confused, how is this possible?. "Aren't you supposed to be in the hospital?", I asked directing the question more at myself than at her. I placed my hand on her forehead, she was burning real bad and at the same time shivering terribly. I closed the umbrella then hung it on my hand, I picked her up and placed her at the back seat of my car and drove home.

"Saving this girl's life for the second time" I said. Why was she out by this time, worse under this rain. How careless of the hospital, or was she already discharged?. I reached my house, luckily the rain had subsided. I got out from the car and carried her in.

She was soaked and shivering, I couldn't remove her clothes, so I kept her by the fire place to dry up. When she was all dried up, I laid her down on my bed then wrapped her in a thick blanket. I sat by the fire place, closely watching her to see if she'd wake up. I picked up a book and started reading. Hours had passed, but she hadn't woken up, it got me worried. I hope it's not like before, I'll take her straight to the hospital tomorrow. Couple more minutes passed, still nothing. I dropped my book and turned to her, watching her carefully. thankfully she stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes.she was like putting people on high jumps, going unconscious for a long time.

She sat up slowly, adjusting her eyes to the light. "Your awake", I said closing the book, while keeping my cool and composure. She turned to look at me, her facial expression told she wasn't pleased to see me. "Oh you again", she said looking away from me. Not like I cared if she liked me, she's been trouble on her own. "Aren't you meant to be in the hospital?", I asked. I needed to know what she's doing out, she clearly isn't fully healed. "I didn't like it there and I needed to see a friend", she said folding her legs on the bed. I don't think I heard what she said well, so she left the hospital, more like snuck out because she didn't like it there and to visit a friend. You got to be kidding me. "How stupid and arrogant can you be to leave the hospital at your state to meet a friend and worse in this weather?", I asked angrily, her parents have spoilt her rotting.

"I didn't leave under the rain, it caught up to me. I had the intention of going home, but I forgot my keys at the hospital. I guess I'm not welcome here", she said crawling down the bed frowning. I wanted to scream into a pillow, this girl makes my blood boil. Instead of her to atleast apologize and accept she made a mistake, she's behaving poorly. "Where do you think you can go by this time?. How can someone be this spoilt, no sense of appreciation. I would have just left you under that bus bench to learn your lesson-".

"Yes maybe you should have. Maybe some one with a better approach and good intentions would have come to help me. Or if none, at least I would have frozen to death", she said angrily cutting me out. "and maybe died, finally I'd leave this dreadful world for those who want it". Why was she talking about death all of a sudden? This girl is really something.

"You miss understood my words",I said, she shouldn't be thinking like such. "Then what did you mean?", she asked getting down from the bed completely. She took a step forward, but clenched her head hard. She looked like she was in pain, damn! And she hasn't fully recovered, I thought. Before I could walk to her ,she fell to the bed. "Audrey!! Audrey!" I called rushing to her. "God!, I shouldn't have stressed her this way" I said under my breath. Why? Why? She's always prone to danger or sickness, She hasn't even recovered from her head injury. I picked her up and arranged her properly on the bed and covered her up. I placed my hand on her forehead, she was burning worse than before. I rushed to the kitchen got a bowl of cold water, dipped a towel in it and placed it on her forehead to cool it down. I repeated it for a while untill her temperature came back to normal.
