A YEAR LATER
Kaima is sitting at her makeup table which has a mirror at its front. She had always been a lover of minimum make up and preferred to keep it down. She was preparing for an evening event which she was invited in by her friend, Isabella.
It was a charity event for orphans. She had decided to go to the event as she was once an orphan. She wanted to help those children who were in her shoes.
She wore a sky blue elegant dress as she wanted to look as graceful as she could.
"Kiara be a good girl while I'm gone" she told her German shepherd. "Mommy will be home soon"
She had always considered her dog as her child since she bought it as a puppy a year ago. She shut the door and locked it with a key.
She and Isa had planned to rent a limo that they could use for the night. The limo had been waiting for her.
"Hurry up! We're going to be late" Isabella said out loud.
Kaima ran to meet the ride that had been waiting for her arrival. She got into it and it drove off.
"You do know we're going to meet a lot of influential people?" Isa asked.
"Yeah" she replied.
"So we have to be in our best manners" Isa reminded.
There was silence in the car as Isa redid her make up while Kaima smeared another layer of lip-gloss on her sticky lips.
"I heard Mr. Niven is going to be there" Isa said in excitement.
"Who is Mr. Niven?" She asked in confusion.
"You must be kidding me" Isa said in astonishment. "Don't you know Mr. Niven?… Zain Niven?"
She nodded her head cluelessly.
"He is the everyday talk of the town, the youngest most successful businessman in the city. Rumors say he's also a crime boss in a top mafia gang. Even with that every girl his dying to be with him cause OMG have you seen his face? He has the beauty of a god. If I could just get him to look at me, I would fall flat on the ground in joy." Isa finished.
"But the bad thing is no matter how cute a guy is, they are never loyal" Kaima said.
"Geez Kaima, do you always have to be a killjoy" Isa said rolling her eyes.
"I was just saying the truth" She replied. "Okay, I'm sorry"
********
Kaima walks into the huge event hall, it was different from what she had imagined. It was classy, elegant and formal, she was sure that what she had worn did not fit the standard but she cared less as she was just there to donate to the orphans.
"This place is huge" Isa said in shock.
Though she was shocked, she still tried to pretend she was used to it.
"Look at that chandelier" Kaima said pointing to the glass chandelier hanging from the roof.
"Put your hands down" Isa snapped. "Do you want to give away our status?"
"Geez Isa, chill" She said sarcastically.
"I'm sorry, I'm just particular about our reputation" she said taking a deep breath.
"Welcome to the 3rd charity event for SOS Orphanage" a voice echoed in the busy event hall.
They all turned to see a well-dressed, elegant man on the stage holding a microphone.
"Thank you all for being present at this glorious assembly. Before we start with the agenda, I would like to call out and acknowledge all our sponsors." He started.
"We would like to acknowledge, Hebdrix and co. Plc, City vale farm, So frizzy Ltd, Niven Enterprise Plc and our greatest sponsor, Mr. Zain Niven" he said.
There was a round of applause from the audience including Isa and Kaima.
"Was that the Zain Niven you talked about?" Kaima asked.
"Yes" Isa replied.
"We all know the main aim of gathering, to help those little children in need. But who says we can't have fun while we do that? There's going to be an auction which will serve as a fundraiser and then the rest is going to be feast and merriment" he said.
******
There was an auction in which Kaima and Isa participated in, they only auction for what they could afford. When the auction ended the boring official event became a high class ball.
Kaima had decided to wander off on her own leaving Isa on the dance floor with a guy she was dancing with. Kaima wandered around the busy hall with a glass of red wine in her hand.
Suddenly, she bumped into someone and the drink spilled on her dress.
"I'm sorry" the female voice said.
"It's okay, I'll go clean it off" she answered brushing off the red stain on her dress.
She flashes a smile to the woman but her smile turn into a frown when she sees who it was. It was Yvonne, her friend who had stolen her ex-boyfriend.
"Kaima, nice seeing you" she said with a smile and gave her a hug.
Kaima knew she was just putting on an act. She had already started to forget her disturbing past but, Yvonne had reminded her of it. Kaima kept silent as she knew she would lose her temper if she said anything.
"It's been a long time since we last saw" Yvonne said. "I came with Richard, we're now engaged"
Her words were starting to anger her. How could she tell her such things knowing that she was the one who stole him?
"Do I know you?" Kaima asked with furrowed brows.
"Are you still angry at me?" she asked. "I'm sorry, I guess he was not just the right person for you"
By now Kaima's blood was already boiling but she kept it within.
"Babe" a deep manly voice said.
It was Richard he was walking towards the two women. He kisses Yvonne on the cheek but soon freezes when he sees who the second woman was.
"Oh…you" he said with disgust filled eyes.
Kaima was definitely done with this mess, she couldn't take all that was going on at her front but she tried her best to make it look like she wasn't affected.
"If you'll excuse me, I'll take my leave" she said.
She slowly walks away from the two betrayers like it didn't bother her. When she knew she was out of sight for them she increased her pace. She ran through the empty hall ways with her face in her hands. She knew the day would come when she would meet him again and was expecting that reacting from him. But she didn't know his disgust would hurt her so badly, did he hate her this much?
She walked into the restroom and successfully cleaned off the red stains on her dress. She was about to leave when she heard pleadings from the opposite restroom, it was the male's section.
She peeked to see four men. Two in black suits, one in navy blue suit and the last in white.
The man on white was on his knees pleading while the Navy blue guy stood tall at his front. The other two men in black stood behind him like bodyguards. She could only see the face of the man in white.
"Please, I was hired by him, I'm just a messenger" he begged.
"Think twice before you mess with the Blue bloods" the navy blue guy said.
Suddenly, he brought out a gun and mercilessly shot the pleading man at the forehead. He dropped dead and a sudden red pool of blood flooded his lifeless body.
"Take care of it and leave no trace" the navy blue guy said.
Kaima was shocked at the gruesome sight she witnessed. She covered her nose and mouth in utter shock. She took a step back in fear but lost her stamina as she wore heels. She fell on her butt and this caught the attention of the deadly killers in the room.
She suddenly stood to her feet and ran to the exit.
The Navy blue guy slowly walks out of the restroom to see a dark hair woman in a sky blue dress running to safety. He could only see her from the back as she disappeared into the exit.
The guards ran after her and caught her right before she reached the event hall. They brought her back to the Leader.
"She is the imposter" one of them said.
Kaima struggled and pleaded for freedom.
"Please, let me go" she cried in fear.
The leader examined her closely with interest then he ran his finger through her hair.
"Let her be" he said.
They let go of her and she immediately tries to make a run but she was held back by his strong grip.
"Please let me go" she begged.
"Don't you remember me?" he asked in amusement.
Kaima was to distressed to listen to or understand what he had said. she cried helplessly not knowing what else to do. To her surprise, he let her go and she took the opportunity to run as far away as she could.
"Sir, should we go after her?" one of the men in black asked.
"No" he said.
