Chapter 19 - Epilogue

Amoura sat with a sorrowful smile as she gazed down at everyone. Like clockwork she would watch as Maximus travelled in search for answers on how to get her back, her heart clenching at the unconditional love the man held for her. Only to laugh when she would hear Papa grumble about all the work his son had left for him to do. She missed Mama Rivers' cinnamon ginger cookies, but was never short of entertainment where Jeremy was concerned. She was beyond elated when Lucy had finally found her mate during one of the travels she had begged Maximus to take her with on.

Time seemed to have mended the wounds her departure had left behind on everyone, they were soothed by the notion of her being happy and safe with the moon, and away from the unforgiving world, even though their Maximus would never give up hope on her return, who had decided that until she returns on her own, he would search just to pacify the yearning of his heart.

She watched as a woman tried to get Maximus' attention as he sat in the restaurant a thousand miles away from home. She was human as she, and wondered if his heart clenched at the little reminder of her. She thought herself silly for such question, for it was without a doubt that it did, even though he barely glanced at the woman. Amoura almost felt pity for her, yet the possessive side of her couldn't help but gloat.

"Why be so bitter, you're up here and he's down there you know. Don't you think it's time you let him go?" asked the woman that came to sit on the edge beside her.

"You ask for the impossible, Selene" she said with a sigh and a sad smile gracing her lips. It didn't matter how much she wanted to free him, she couldn't and Maximus didn't look like he wanted to be freed either.

Upon their arrival here, she had come to meet the goddess of the moon, who was frail and withering yet still miraculously alive, when it seemed the Oracle had been sure she had died when she kissed her. However, her last breath had been her life that remained alive inside here, and that had kept her alive in this realm as well. She gave up long ago trying to understand how it all worked lest she go insane trying to figure it out.

When she had returned her essence back into her body,  it was only a matter of time for her to heal back. And though Selene lived, meaning the moon still had a keeper, Amoura couldn't have simply returned back to earth, Selene had needed her. Together they had sown the tethered bonds and placed misplaced souls back where they belonged, they restored the balance back, even though the damage had already been done. The werewolves had recovered with time, their king a far better ruler than his father, especially when he had stumbled upon his heart by chance.

And now as Amoura watched the Oracle enjoy his adventures with his Layla, watched how Gruff served as a loyal warrior in Maximus' pack and laughed when the young lad made a ridiculous comment as he sat before Maximus, talking his ear off as always, she found a sense of peace in her heart.

Selene had gifted the three souls life for their loyalty, how they had looked out for her back in those four white walls that were no more. And somehow all of them had stumbled right where they were meant to be, although she couldn't tell how Maximus kept the boy around with the many times he thought the boy to be annoying, she knew then that the boy had grown on Maximus more so for the familiarity the Alpha felt around the talkative young man.

She had also been shocked to realise that Nana was actually like her, mated to a late descendant of an Original, and that had explained a lot, mostly why the woman had felt familiar, and she hadn't asked Amoura endless question as one might have normally had in her position.

However, being that Marvin had been adopted by Nana's late daughter, he remained oblivious to the existence of werewolves and seemed would forever be, for she understood why Nana would choose to keep him detached from the supernatural world. They were blissfully happy as they were and she was content with that. After a brief silence, the goddess agreed

"I know. You Are moon bound after all" at the emphasis Amoura felt hope bloom in her heart as her eyes snapped toward the purple alight ones. Child-like hope shone in her eyes and she questioned

"What does that mean?" the goddess merely gave the young woman a meaningful fleeting glance before looking back at the scenery

"What do you think it means, child?" and she got up, dusting off the specs of dust on her yellow summer dress and walked away before the giddy girl could ask any more. She laughed when she heard her let out a squeal as she fell off the edge. Selena didn't even look back, determined to go apple picking for she had been craving them since she woke up.
