Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

As she slowly gained consciousness, she lay immobile on the bed as if one move could awaken the pain from her dream all over again. When she finally sat up, she couldn't help a groan of exhaustion as her body felt like it had just been hit by a ten-ton train. Her bones felt heavy as she lifted her arms only to rub the sleep away from her face. It was official, she felt like poo and that reminded her of the reason why she always appreciated the reprieve trips to Scileria offered her, for when she didn't drift off into the realm of dreams, she was always stuck reliving the past only to either wake up in pain or heavy guilt that came with having killed an innocent.

Although she could tell that she was slowly becoming immune to the effects such nightmares brought with them, she still hated feeling like somebody had just sucked the life out of her. One look toward the window, she realised she must have slept throughout the day, for it looked like it was in the afternoon. Getting up from her bed, she looked at her gummy bears, although she was tempted to just shove a handful into her mouth, she remembered that she still wasn't immune to the pain too much sugar caused, considering that she was still getting used to eating such sugary edibles.

She decided against it, and thought it better to go to a diner for some decent food, at least she hoped it would be decent. with her back pack packed, she threw her coat on, and walked out into dimming daylight and the heat of the sun made her skin burn beneath the leather coat, but she found that she didn't mind. Walking toward her bike, she ignored the eyes she felt on her from the people that passed on by as she mounted the beast and pulled out of the motel parking lot. Her drive was for but a second before she spotted a diner causing her to swerve onto another lane in a way that, had there been a car on the road, there would most probably have been a crash. However, only a few cars drove by compared to the amount of people around the town.

Parking the bike, she walked toward the door and she was almost startled by the chime of the bell above the said door at her entry. She couldn't help but mentally giggle at herself. The food establishment was decently packed with only a few vacant tables and one of them ended up being occupied by Amoura. She chose one on the farthest corner of the diner. There were stares again, she figured it was most probably because since it seemed to be a werewolf only town, they rarely had human visitors if at all, she thought perhaps she was quite the strange occurrence to the town.

"Well, aren't ya a sight, what can I get you doll?' she found the woman's drawl fascinating as she kept her gaze on the menu she had found on the table. Looking up at the woman, she offered smile and ordered

"Can I have a burger with fries please?"

"Sure thang, need anything to drink with that?" she merely nodded and said

"Just water" the woman jotted it down and with a tight lipped smile she walked away.

Amoura found her beautiful with her ginger tendrils of hair in a messy ponytail, she had the usual emerald eyes and she found them to be really pretty from where the woman had stood with the light glazing over them. She was decently taller than her with more meat on her bones and a bigger bust than her bottom, but the work attire fit her perfectly. She was a wolf and by the scent of her, she had not blood of authority and that made her a mere regular wolf.

Placing her menu down, she looked around the cute retro diner, the customers ranged from the young to the old, and from where she sat, she could hear the group of high school kids that sat a few tables from her and the topic was her. From their words she could finally understand why the towns' people stared at her either in fear or intrigue. It turns out that since the law was passed by the king that werewolves were to never mate with humans, werewolf kept distance from human all together, some thought she might bring trouble to their town, bring about the wrath of the King.

The subject changed from her being human to her ghastly white silvery tendrils of curls. She almost laughed out loud at how they thought she merely had it dyed and made a comment on how that was a terrible choice, for it clashed 'horribly" with the tone of her skin. As if she cared about her appearance that clearly couldn't be helped considering she was naturally born with the features she had. Amoura had thanked her waitress when she had placed her food before her. She was halfway through her meal when a rowdy bunch entered the dinner. Three bulky men walked in and by their statures she could tell that they were warriors of the pack.

Their stares were the mean kind minute their eyes fell on her when they sat by the barstools near the counter of the diner. She ignored them as usual, and found herself all of a sudden quite full when one of them called her a word used to reference a female dog. Not trying to add on to her body count, she left the money on the table with a decent tip, something Marvin had made her aware of when he had taken her to eat out one time. She grabbed her bag from the other seat, threw on her hood and walked out of the establishment that watched her departure.

Oooh, I smell trouble the young lad in her head spoke up again, it was so all of a sudden Amoura's breath hitched

'What do you mean?' she questioned as she mounted her bike

It's funny how I seem more attuned to your senses than you, I believe you're too distracted his last words were more a warning than the former.

It was when Amoura had just ridden out of the town that she heard it, whimpers of a girl deep in the woods. She had taken the young lads' advice and paid keener attention to her surroundings.

I would drive on by if I were you, you don't want to cause trouble a voice cautioned

However, Amoura couldn't find it in herself to ignore the sounds that strangely tugged at her heartstrings. She turned her bike into the woods and headed into the direction the helpless sounds were coming from. Only she came to an abrupt screech when her pathway was blocked by a tree log that had fallen across. Deciding that her own speed, which was probably much faster anyway, she dropped her bag near the now parked bike and took off on foot.

There she stood, with her shoulder length chestnut hair and hazel eyes sweet as honey, only they were filled with fear and turned bitter by the oncoming tears as her body was being pushed into the tree. The five group of boys that seemed to be high school seniors, had her surrounded, and she figured the one that stood with his arms crossed against his chest and leaning against the tree a few feet from the group, was the leader as he watched on.

Her gaze fell on the girl again and she understood why the image had her mind nearly snapping, she frighteningly resembled her Anna and she blinked as if in attempt to dispel the image of her little girl, she was gone, but she would be damned if they take this one too, she thought to herself

"I'd let her go if I were you" her voice was cold and heavy with authority as she spoke, and all their heads turned in her direction, the one that had been taunting the girl also halted his assault to look her way.

"Or what?" one of the boys threw the question her way, smirking he slowly stalked toward her.

She really didn't want to kill these young boys, she could tell three of them were high born in their pack, and she agreed with what the voice had said earlier, she really didn't want any trouble, but the way the boy stalking her way looked at her, enticed a certain side of her she'd rather not let loose. She could already feel the dryness on her tongue as the voices whispered that she tear them apart. They thirsted for blood and some cheered in glee at her thoughts, brought to life by the mere notion of seeing crimson expelling from flesh and life diminishing into an abyss, she built high soundproof walls to keep from being overwhelmed by the noise.

She knew she had to find a way to rid them from her, now that they seemed to be interwoven with the strands of her very essence, it made it hard for her to ignore them, or fall prey to the suggestions they tended to infuse into her consciousness, and she didn't like the possibility of being mentally controlled by sick psychos she had been forced to kill for her own protection and that of Anna.

At the thought of sweet little Anna, her heart clenched at the fate that had befell her, she resented herself for not having saved her, despite how much she had tried, it didn't matter, for nothing could have saved her. The disease had been slowly eating at her, leaving her in nothing but skin and bones and vacant eyes, the image had her fighting against the sting in her eyes, shaking her head to rid of the thoughts. The snapping of a twig brought her out of her thoughts, the boy stood at an arm's length, her eyes flitted back to the girl and before either of them could react, a snarling brought them out of their standoff.

She knew that kind of snarl, she could tell it apart from a thousand others, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw one behind the tree where the girl still stood, she seemed to have stilled at the sound she knew came from behind her. Amoura saw her fidget to make a move and before the girl could run, she spoke

"Don't move" her voice was calm and the order in it held enough power to keep the girl glued in place, and the girl's eyes seemed to panic even more when she realised she truly couldn't move even if she wanted to, and she wondered how the grey haired human girl held an Alpha voice that strong as she gazed at her in alarm, a contrast to Amoura's expressionless face and her silvers still cold as steel. They boys had stood on their haunches at the snarl, and realised they were surrounded by rabids, at least a dozen of them, and it seemed the tables had turned for they were the ones this turn, with terror in their heart despite their brave faces.

When the rabids attached, the boys had fazed mid leaps in the air as they charged back, they were barely outnumbered as some were forced to take on two at a time. The rabids were ruthless in their assault with one aim in mind, and that was to kill. Amoura had aimed for the one that had its eyes on the girl that still remained immobile by the tree, her attack was swift as she grabbed it by the jaws aiming for the girl's head, only to rip them apart. The pain was instant as it creeped up her spine and clawed at her brain when her body automatically fought the edge to kill everything in her path.

"Run" she groaned out as she looked at the girl that stood wide eyed with splatters of crimson on her person, at the command, the girl nodded and ran in what was most probably the direction that their pack was in. As she looked around her surroundings, she wondered if perhaps she should make a run for it, after all she had done what she had aimed to do, however as she looked on at the jaws against jaws, kill or be killed fight going on, the boys were outnumbered, and some could barely hold their own against the rabids that teamed up two against one.

She wondered if whether they were trained to kill rabids at all, because it didn't seem like they would make it out alive, at least not all of them. A grey wolf found itself in a tough spot when one rabid bit its leg and another had its neck between its jaws. A snap of a jaw would have been the young man's end if Amoura hadn't been quick to intervene, her speed was that of light as she sped their direction, she punched the rabid at the neck causing it to release the grey wolf's neck. With her help, the wolf was able to fight off the rabid that still had its teeth embed through the skin of its leg, that he could almost feel them graze the bone, whilst she tried to fight against the pain that threatened to seize her body in agony.

The rabid she had punched had come to its senses only to realise that she was becoming vulnerable and when it went to bite at her, she ripped a dagger from her boot and slit its throat. A new wave hit her twice fold at the instant death of the rabid and her hold on her sanity almost slipped. Groaning in pain and on her knees, she still clutched the bloody dagger in hand, her head was lolled back in pain as she sat back on her legs. Her eyes were a blur as she stared through the branches of the trees that hid the sky from her.

Even though night was still a few hours away, as she caught a glimpse of the blue sea above her, she heard the moon calling, it penetrated through the snarls and whines, the tearing of skin and cracking of bones as the fight went on, it demanded that she help them, keep them safe. At that point she lost her resolve and gave into red haze that was quick to consume her eyes, the iris was a glowing red only to be surrounded by the crimson that overtook the white of her sclera. Neither of the wolf specie saw her coming, nor could the young men have been prepared for what they were to witness, for minute she gave in and all she saw was red, the pain was gone and the urge to kill fuelled her body like candy did a little child.

She was stealthy as always just more lethal as she walked toward the two rabids that were ready to go in for the kill, the young man's wolf slumped against the tree bark as the two rabids stalked his way. She jumped onto the back of the rabid, and simultaneously retrieved another dagger from her other boot, both hands armed, she plunged them on either sides of the rabid's neck. It was instant death only to hit Amoura with a new wave of the urge and she was like a rabid herself if not the Queen that led the damned. Before the other rabid could attack the brown wolf, she sliced off its legs as its body lay amputated and bleeding.

When she was about to attack the brown wolf in her vision, although it was like she was in the back seat of her mind, she tugged at the urge and she somehow changed cause. When all the rabids lay dead, she stood barely sated as her hunger for more death seemed to increase, with no more rabids to kill, her eyes fell on the wolves that eyed her suspiciously, it didn't matter that she most probably saved their life, the woman seemed ready to maul them all just the same.

She could smell their fear of her, it was like a pungent smell that she couldn't stand, as she watched them for some reason without attacking, she realised that even though she had given in, she could still control herself even from the back burner, with that realisation, she tried to draw it back in and push to the forefront of her own mind, and although she had allowed it the reigns, the pain hit her as if the urge was giving protest to being subdued unsated. the amount of rabids she killed exceeded her normal count of three, and that was enough to rob her of her consciousness.

The young men had changed back, still stunned at what they had just witness, they stood gaping at the human who was now slumped on the ground at a distance in front of them. What they had seen was something they had never witnessed before, it frightened them just as it had them intrigued. They were brought out of their shock when they heard footsteps approaching and they knew the help they had called for through the pack link had arrived.

"Well son, it seems that you didn't need us at all" The Alpha spoke to the young man that looked worse for wear but had no fatal injury, only for his gaze to rest back on the rabid corpses that scattered about the ground. The young man said nothing as he listened to another voice pipe up

"What's a human doing here?" The Delta questioned as he walked toward the unconscious Amoura that laid still as if dead, her chest barely moved to show that she was breathing, however the heartbeat he heard was enough proof that she was actually alive.

"Oh yea, I heard that there was a human in town, said she left this afternoon" one of the warriors drawled out only to add "Except it doesn't seem like she actually left" his words hung in the air

"Well it seems like the boys are still in shock, how about you three clean up here, and the rest to the pack, I expect an explanation tomorrow morning though boys, now go along and get patched up" The Alpha instructed as they walked in the direction of the pack leaving behind the three chosen warriors.

"Uh, what are we to do about the human Alpha?' the warrior's question brought the man to a halt before he replied

"you might as well dispose of her as well" to which some of the boys loudly protested to, one of them being the Alpha's son

"you can't do that, I don't exactly know how to explain it but she isn't exactly human, I mean a human couldn't do what she just did, just trust me on this dad" his tone was almost frantic laced with frustration of not being able to explain the matter

"Son, she smells like human, obviously that makes her a human, and judging by  thethe looks of it, she must have seen you guys phase, and we know the law" the father spoke with a shrug his tone almost patronising at having to explain the obvious

"But she's no ordinary human, Alpha" one of the young men spoke up

"Just, have her come with us please, I'll even carry her back if I have to" the future Alpha spoke up trying to convince his father

"You know that that would be asking for trouble boy" one of the warriors spoke up, his tone clearly laced with disapproval.

"He's right" The Alpha said to his son, jerking his head in his warrior's direction. This only seemed to frustrated the future Alpha further, to the point he exclaimed

"For Pete's sake dad! she saved my life okay, had she not been there, I would probably be dead right now and you would be cleaning up my corpse along with the test of em" the Alpha watched his son stunned by his reaction, further more by the words he just said, and he couldn't bring himself to believe a human could have saved a werewolf, one with alpha blood and from Rabids at that.

"Listen Jack" the Alpha started and Jack could clearly see the scepticism that laced his face

"Just one day, please, then she'll leave and such news won't even be major enough to concern the King" Jack interrupted. The father could tell that his son was adamant on the matter and if he didn't concede they'd be going back and forth till the moon came up. With a sigh and a mutter about how he better not regret this, he agreed.

"Fine, but tomorrow she's gone, capuche?" Jack merely nodded as he let out a sigh of relief.

He couldn't understand why he felt the need to bring the human with them, especially one that could be a serious threat to his pack if the way she mutilated those raids was anything to go by. He had never seen someone kill rabids so effortlessly, it was like she had put in no effort at all when she moved about the rabids, killing them one by one as if they were mere rag dolls and not crazed rogues. To think that she was human had him perplexed because her eyes had exposed otherwise. He wondered if whether she was of a supernatural specie that knew how to hide their scents and pass of as humans, however the only kind he knew was vampires, and well, she didn't have fangs, but she did have a speed of one, her speed went beyond even that of a vampire.

He would settle for a witch but her lack of use of magic supported otherwise. Or perhaps it was because he felt simply enthralled by how her skin was rich in gold and her hair a silver in curls, and her eyes, he had seen them when she had first stepped through the clearing with her demand as if she owned them, they were a glistening silver that looked like a raging storm as her gaze had coldly penetrated Josh, who was taunting his childhood crush as always, he found it pitiful how he was incapable of just being straight up with the girl and instead had settled to bully her. Although the technique was said to work, sometimes it just failed, just like in his friend's case.

She felt cold in his arms as he carried her through the woods, their pack was a little way from where they were, and as she whimpered in her sleep, he wondered if Amoura whimpered from pain or a dream, he noticed that the crimson that splattered on her face and most probably all over her black clothes, none of it was hers, she had killed eight rabids and barely had a scratch on her. Just what are you Storm?' the question rang silently in his mind.
