Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 5:

Ringing.

There was a loud ringing in my ear that didn't want to stop.

What had happened?

Everything around me was so fuzzy.

My body felt way too heavy to move.

Even if I wanted to, I couldn't.

Would I remain like this forever?

The ringing slowly reduced and I could hear people talk around me but I couldn't make sense of what they were saying.

From what I could understand, their conversation wasn't too heated.

The weight on my eyes began to lighten as moments passed.

At first, I couldn't see much as my vision was blurry but there were few people; in the room with me.

My hearing and sight were restored and I let my eyes slowly flutter open.

My parents were here with me as well as some maids and our doctor.

What happened to me?

"Elaka? I'm so glad you're awake" mother moved close to me and squeezed me into a hug.

I did my best to respond to her the best way I could as my body still felt weak and sore.

"mother? W-what happened to me?" my throat was dry and my voice was raspy.

She snapped her fingers and a maid came over to me with a glass of water.

Two other servants helped me sit up and I took the glass from her.

After I was forced to drink everything, there was an uncomfortable silence that filled the room.

No one looked gloomy though and it made me wonder even more what the suspense was about.

"mom is everything ok?"

"everything is-"

"wonderful" father walked through the doors with a big smile on his face.

I had never seen him so happy in a long time. It made me a bit suspicious.

"there's my darling daughter. How're you feeling?" he hugged and kissed both my cheeks.

He doesn't do this often though so I found it really weird.

"w-what's going on?" I asked when I had had enough of being left in the dark about things.

"well you-"

"Eldon? Honey? Let me deliver the news to her ok?" mother had a gentle smile.

"Elaka. You know how you've been preparing to be the Khamatu?" I haven't been preparing.

They have been preparing me just in case I got the power I never really wanted.

Besides, they weren't preparing me for anything reasonable asides how to be the perfect doll.

Not really having my own.

I nodded, letting her know I was following along.

"well; its paid off. You're going to be the next Khamatu" she smiled.

This whole thing felt like a huge scam.

Firstly, I hadn't even seen the legendary crystal before.

Though mother claimed she had it and would only pass it down when the time was right but still.

"h-how is that possible? What happened?" I've been asking that question for the past 10 minutes and no one was giving me valid information.

"well to simplify things, you were struck by lightning and got your powers. There's a scar on your back and it serves as an indicator"

"did you get struck by lightning when you were younger?"

"no, I wasn't because I didn't have any siblings. Only one child can possess the powers. If it wasn't that way, then our species would over run the world with time" her explanation made a whole lot of sense.

"w-what of Anaka? D-does she know?" I didn't know how she would react as it was her dream to be the Khamatu instead of mine.

"y-your sister is well…" I could see mother was really uncomfortable about it.

I'm guessing she didn't take the news so well.

Poor Anaka.

"we'll get back to that later, we have to celebrate such good fortune as soon as you feel better" he grinned and walked out.

I still couldn't believe everything I had just heard.

The whole Khamatu thing was way too sudden.

So, if I had the powers now, then what would happen to Anaka?

I couldn't help but wonder.

Mom told me to get some rest.

My life was going to become a whole lot more complicated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was dismissed at some point that day.
All the servants told me congratulations on getting my powers and things like that but it felt forced.
Me being the Khamatu doesn't change the fact that I still prefer spending my time reading books.
Dad threw a small celebration.
Everyone there was a noble.
I spent the whole day getting attention I wasn't used to but I had to force a smile and push through everything.
It was weird getting their compliments; telling me things like 'I'll do really well' and 'I always knew you would be the one', like they could see the future.
Ever since I got the news, I hadn't seen Anaka.
Our house wasn't as big as a castle but it was big enough for us not to cross paths in a while.
I don't know why but it just felt like she has been avoiding me.
I knew she was pained about the whole thing.
She was basically built for possessing this but yet, it went to my hands.
If I had a way, I would pass it down to her.
She seemed like she was ready to take on the responsibilities it brought about.
I couldn't care less. I couldn't even handle the attention I was getting.
Today was dreadfully dull as usual but it worse as Anaka had been avoiding me.
What I wouldn't give to have a friend or someone to talk to.
Almost like my prayers were heard, I saw my sister sitting alone in the gardens and I rushed to talk to her.
"there you are; I've been looking for you everywhere" I said a bit out of breath.
The smile I had dropped immediately our eyes locked.
Anaka looked really sad and upset.
"what's wrong?" I tried to touch her shoulder but she slapped my hand away.
What has gotten into her?
"come here to gloat?" her voice was filled with so much anger and pain.
I had never heard her sound this way before.
"gloat? Why would I do that? Anaka please try to understand; it's not like I wanted this" that seemed to have triggered her and she was holding back angry tears.
"that's what makes it even more painful! Why would it be you of all people. There's no difference if these powers were given to a servant. You'll waste this opportunity! You're not even strong" Her words did sting but she did have a point.
"Anaka, if there was a way for me to transfer these powers to you then I would have done it in a heartbeat; I really would"
"maybe you got the powers because the forces of nature felt pity for you. I always had dad's attention and you were in the background where you belonged. All of a sudden you stole my spotlight; my life, everything. I don't even think dad remembers my name" she was getting more and more frustrated.
"I'm truly sorry for everything Anaka" I opened my hands to embrace her but she turned me down and walked away.
This whole thing has put a rift between us.
And there was no way to make up for it.
I continued my walk while processing everything that had just happened.
I was going to find a way to cheer her up.
No matter how little it will be, I have to do something.
I was stopped short when I noticed the guards had gathered in a circle and from the looks of it, there was someone in the middle of it all.
Things like this don't happen often.
I wanted to go back and let them deal with it but when I saw father walking towards them, I knew it had become really serious.
Curiosity was getting the best of me. I guess a little peak wouldn't hurt anyone.
With that, I began walking towards them.
As I did, my heart was pounding. I didn't know how this was going to end and it slightly felt exciting.
Wow, if I called this exciting, then I really do need to get a life.
I squeezed passed the guards and was inside the circle they had formed with their bodies.
There was a boy there.
His face was totally unfamiliar.
He wasn't part of the servants that usually worked for us so how did he get here?
Was he a spy from the vampires, demons or angels?
Father did his best to make sure we were safe from the war since our blood is strong and precious; mine more than others.
My eyes ran over his general appearance. He looked thin and his clothes were tattered, dirty and torn.
I had also noticed there were bruises on his body.
I'm guessing he had just been beaten up by the guards.
Asides him going through a beating from them, there were older marks on him and I felt pity for him.
Whether he was a spy or not, he looked like he needed a whole lot of help.
Father hadn't noticed my presence yet as he was pondering on what to do with the boy.
The guards recommended torturing him before killing him.
It was evident he was scared to the tip of his toes.
"for him to have the balls infiltrate this place, killing or making him would be a waste" father rubbed his chin.
Suddenly, I could feel fathers stare on my but I just ignored it and kept on staring at the limp boy on the ground.
"I think I have the perfect job for him" I turned to see he had a huge smirk on his face.
That can't be good at all…
