Chapter 9
" What the hell! Phew!" She muttered as she looked at her mother who had an unsteady breathing. Does this mean that she is alive?
" This is a miracle!" The doctor muttered under his breath as he looked at the patient that was about to be transferred to the mortuary. The nurses looked like they had seen a ghost. Since they started working in the hospital, they had never seen something like that. Zoe looked at the monitor again to be sure it was true. She smiled for the first time since the morning of the incident. She finally had a reason to smile even though there were going to be more stumbling blocks for her.
Just as she was about to take further actions, the shocked nurses held her hands and pushed her out of the room forcibly. They knew that with the way she was staring at her, she would be too stubborn to leave after the scene she had caused them earlier.
" Hey! Let me in! My mom is alive. I need to be with her. We need each other at the moment. What the hell are you doing?" She yelled at them.
" Ma'am, we are sorry but we have to take it from here. We need to do our job to ensure the patient's stability." The doctor said and closed the door again while she frowned as she began to bang on the door. What was so special in what they were about to do to her? Why can't they do that in her presence? Is there something she was missing? She thought and she continued to bang the door until her hands bled from the constant hitting. She sighed and sat down on one of the nearest seater sadly as she held her head in her hands.
Three unfortunate incident had happened to her already in a day which was too much for her to bear all alone. In just a day that was supposed to be precious to her.
She lost her man and the wedding eventually did not take place, she lost her father and almost lost her mother also. Could life ever remain the same again for her? She was sure that she would never fall in love anymore. She thought and exhaled loudly.
If only everything was just a dream and she would wake up, would it not even been better? No matter how much she tried to think that it was a dream, it still wasn't. It was reality. It was live.
Just then, she saw a group of people pointing at her and had strange looks on her faces. She smiled sadly instead. She could bet that those that were laughing at her could not go through half of what she had already gone through. She was a mess already, she knew that but that was the least important to her at the moment. She knew there would be laughing at her at the moment. After all, a woman dressed in a white wedding gown and a flushed face isn't supposed to be in the hospital in that attire. She bet they would be wondering what must have happened.
Too bad, she had no time to explain anything to anyone. She was in no mood to do that.
She sighed and picked up her phone to call the woman that had caused her so much pains. The woman she had always considered her best friend. The woman she loved and cherished the most. Her so called her sister. If not for anything sake, at least, for the fact that she was the first daughter of the family. She deserved to know what had happened to their parents.
** Riley! That birch! The woman that had caused her so much pains. It should not have been her. She should not have been in that position to hurt her when she had clearly done nothing to wrong her.* She thought and blinked her eyes.
She should not shed tears for someone like Riley. She did not even deserve her tears.
Still, a part of her wondered how she was fairing. In as much as she hated her, she still cared about her. No matter how much she tried to dislike her, she still cared about her. If not for anything else, at least the innocent baby was her niece! Pathetic, right? She thought and frowned as she sighed in frustration.
** How on earth can I care for someone that does not care about me?* She thought and scoffed as she dialled her contact for over six times but she refused to pick up.
Like seriously? Does she think that I will try to beg her after what she had done? She must be a fool. I hate myself for even trying to care about the fool! She thought and scoffed again as she dialled her contact but still, she refused to pick up.
She hurriedly changed her SIM card to a private number to call her. After a few rings, her sister picked up the call.
" Riley, our parents are in the hospital. You should come right now because they need you and…"
" Oh! Pathetic and desperate birch. Despite the fact that I did not pick up your calls, you still had to have your number changed? How pathetic you are! I know your true intentions! You wanna hurt me and my baby!"
" Are you mad?" She asked in annoyance. If not for the circumstances, does this woman think that she will call her? She wondered. She still couldn't believe that her sister could change this much. She had never seen that side of her before and had never in her wildest dreams believe that such could ever happen.
" You're the mad one here! You're the sick one! I'm sure you called me also because you must have thought that my Kingston will also come with me and then, you'll try to throw yourself cheaply at him to marry you again!"
" I can see that you are sick upstairs! Who's the cheap woman here? It's you! You threw yourself cheaply at Kingston and you think it's fair!'
" How do you feel after saying that? What matters the most is that I'm now carrying his baby! I have what I want and desire in which you can never have! I'm sure you now know what I ever passed through because of you! You are bitter and that was how exactly I used to feel when everything was too rosy for you!'
Zoe sighed. She had no words to trade with this woman.
" Saint Unique hospital and father passed away already" she said instead. She had no time to waste with a sick woman like Riley.
" How's that my business anyway? You're the most favourite! So, deal with it birch! What makes you think that I will come over? I'm not dense enough and…" she stopped abruptly and moaned slightly which broke Zoe's heart.
She looked at the time. It was 7:00pm. If it was on a normal day, she was supposed to be on the bed with the man she loved the most at that moment while they made sweet love and shared passionate kisses. She was supposed to be the woman moaning under him while he did pleasant things to her but her sister took all that away from her. No! She didn't! The fault was Kingston because he only deceived her!
" Riley! They're still our parents and mother needs us now. It was a miracle she survived and…"
" Get the fuck off my phone, loser! And don't you ever call me again" she said and hung up
