Obi, the palmwine tapper in his usual cheerful spirit, walked down the narrow bush path to the river bed. Empty kegs in his hands swaying to the rhythm of the gentle breeze as he hummed to an old tune. Across his shoulders is a rope made from twigs and raffia ; this aids him to climb the palm trees. It has been his daily routine to check out his palm trees before nightfall, a task he does diligently because he knows in the morning, his house would be filled with customers who would be salivating for his delicious wine. Ascending the hill that would get him to his farm ; a stone throw from Njaba river: A river know for its Dreaded pythons (Eke Njaba). History has it that the Pythons were the Children of Njaba the first wife of Amadioha( God of thunder) . Who was said to be malicious and deals with enemies mercilessly ;he quickened his pace because it's getting dark already . Obi got to his farm as the sun begins to loss its light. With the aid of the raffia rope, he climbed one of his palm, in bid to bring down the already filled keg and replace it with a new one positioned on his back. Halfway up the tree, he felt goosebumps all over, the gentle breeze became cold and the night seems to be darker. Obi knew that something humanoid is the cause of the sudden change of the atmosphere. Fear gripped him and air seems to stop flowing into his lungs.

A force seems to compel him to look towards the river bed were the river tide seems to be on a zigzag movement. Emerging from the river, swimming against the tide is a creature: a woman, but not like mortal, because no mortal would dare swim in Njaba river by that odd hour. Taking a closer look, Obi noticed that the creature was standing but not with legs. The lower part of her body which propels her to the bank wasn't legs but a fin that looks like a tentacle. The creature looks like a crossing between a human, and an eel. Horrifying as the scene looks, Obi noticed that the Eelmaid ( a name obi later gave it) was carrying a bundle : a basket made of seaweed and tropical tree barks. The Eelmaid seems to be in a hurry as it flapped to the bank and placed the bundle. Without wasting any time it let out a siren cry and swarm back to the river. Getting to the deep, it submerged and there was no trace of it. All at once everything came back to normal, the cold was lifted, Obi felt air going into his lungs and it was as if he witnessed a trance. Alas. It wasn't a trance because the bundle is still there by the river bed as he looked over.
